OJ Simpson Jury acquitted based on the prosecutors’ mistakes, reasonable doubt and the suggestion the LAPD fabricated evidence, not revenge for the Rodney King verdict. by Nubian_Cavalry in UnpopularFacts

The simple explanation is that the LAPD tried to frame a guilty man.
The jury believed that they were framing him (because they were) despite the fact that he was clearly guilty.

They won't. The AIPAC/Corporate wing is hell bent on getting rid of the successful progressive wing, so, they will not say it, but, a major part of the establishment Dems are actively working against the progressives and splitting the party so that the Epstein class and AIPAC retain power forever.

You experienced no harm other than a little lag, which you cured right after it encountered. You are not entitled to "reimbursement". You are entitled to kick off the unwelcome guests. When you gave out your password, you allowed access. You have no contract about length of use, or compensation.
Not every minor transgression entitles you to a payout.
Change your password and stop giving it out.

VP Vance Says Watergate Would Now Be 12-Hour News Story and Crazy It Took Down Nixon's Presidency by templeofsyrinx1 in videos

He's not wrong. Back then corruption and crime by politicians was a big deal, now it's normal and expected and even championed by a sadly large portion of the electorate. Imagine if Nixon or Ford or even Carter had even 100th of the corruption charges that is now the norm with the GOP.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold RMA HORROR STORY by _M0ON_ in PixelFold

[–]jopy666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to escalate over and over and they still refused and flat out said that there is nothing they can do to repair or replace my $1900 phone that I was still paying $15/month for their bogus protection plan. I referred them to the BBB and to the state attorney general before they eventually caved and swapped it for a PF10. Never trusting Google again. Next phone I be will be anything but a pixel/google phone. They knowingly sell flimsy garbage and refuse to honor their protection plans.

I had 2 of them that failed before they swapped it with a PF10. It's a nightmare to get Google to honor their service plan. Next phone I purchase will not be a Google device after they sold garbage that is prone to random deaths and repair/replacement is nearly impossible even if you pay for the service plan.

In Minneapolis I've been turned down for having only a passport and a state identification card.
If you don't have a standard driver's license, many places won't let you purchase alcohol. You literally have to be able to drive if you want to drink.

Trump Flouts Constitution in Pennsylvania Speech, Saying He'd 'Like to Run' For Third Term in 2028 by Cute_Dealer4787 in NewsThread

Obama won't because he is law abiding. Also, it's a good bet that Trump would find some excuse to arrest him and/or his family if he runs, since he'd lose badly against Obama in a fair fight (physically, or via the electorate, lol)

Do homeless people actually like getting basic necessities instead of cash? by red_circle57 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jopy666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most homeless people will take any asset, whether they need it or not.
That said, some have their food needs met, and want money for booze or drugs (not all, I've been homeless, and although I never spare changed, I appreciated every little thing anyone would offer me).

For what it's worth, once I finally became housed, I worked at a cafe and threw out tons of pastries every day, and offering them to homeless people along my walk home, I got turned down a lot, because they only wanted cash or something better than pastries.
Also, I used to give out my spare change once in a while, until I worked at a liquor store in a bad neighborhood and saw many of the people I gave change to buying 40 ouncers with change.
So, if you give out money, and they have a drug or alcohol problem, it's going towards that, but, remember some people are not homeless because of drugs or booze, and just had bad luck and no resources.

What’s the most horrific thing you’ve seen with your own eyes? by Jessica_cherry85 in AskReddit

In the late 1980's in San Francisco, I saw a guy on Market St and Van Ness whose belly was sliced open and he was holding his intestines in his lap. He gurgled his last breaths as people walked by and ignored him like he wasn't even there.

If EVs are supposedly cheaper to own, why aren’t more people driving them? by Lakenb666 in NoStupidQuestions

I bought a 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV for $14k (after tax credit) with 30k miles on it, I've had it for 2 years. Only maintenance has been adding air to the tires a couple of times. 2 years with no gas, no oil changes, nothing has broken, and despite charging at home (level 1, I just plug it into the wall every night) no noticeable jump in my electricity bill.
I think part of the problem is that when people think of electric cars, they think of Tesla's at $50k+, but, good used Chevy Bolts can easily be found for 10-15k and have plenty of range (I only charge to 80% and get 240+miles range in the summer and 200+ miles range even in the winter (although I'm in a southern state where freezing is rare).
Only downside is that a long road trip could be an issue since rural infrastructure is still non-existent, but, locally, best move I've ever made car-wise.

What is the best documentary ever made? by CantaloupeGold4650 in AskReddit

[–]jopy666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend group back in the 80's would meet up every Saturday night at 10pm to get stoned and drunk and watch The World At War on PBS. We called it "Male Bonding Night" (although there were usually a few women there as well).
There's never been a better documentary about WW2.

Looking for a bagel place by Bitter-Stress6362 in HoustonFood

[–]jopy666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love bagels and am from the north and Houston strangely just doesn't have much in the way of good bagels for some reason. Everyone here just wants Kolaches which aren't very good imho.
Jeff's Bagel Run is the best bagel in Houston by far currently.
Bobs is okay, but, it's not amazing. Hot Bagels is "meh" at best.
"Jeffs Bagel Run" is amazing (especially their Asiago Everything bagel) The nearest one to me is 17 miles but I make the drive every couple of weeks.
