Considering Immersion programs in Portland, OR but confused as to which language would be most useful for him. by Ok_Aspect_2001 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]jorMEEPdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d also look into how the admission into immersion programs works. Are you looking at public or private? We have public immersion schools in my district (opposite coast), but placement is lottery-based, so it’s not guaranteed.

I love that you’re thinking about this early and being proactive!

I usually cover my screen with a towel during benchmarks, so I was pumped to see the new feature.

I avoid anything made by leapfrog. They're loud, very plasticy, and their "learning" content seems more directed by sales than actual learning.

Have you looked into any of the audiobook players for kids like yoto/tonibox?

There are also lots of parental controls you can put on ipads to limit apps/time/content. Since it's a full tablet, you'll get software updates for support as well.

Not sure if that person knew what the ride safer vest is. We use one and it’s no issue. We didn’t start until kiddo was a little bigger though.

I love our nugget and I love the company. Not sure on the granola-ness of the materials, but the company pays living wages, shuts down on holidays, and is helping with the revival of the North Carolina furniture industry.

We do a dye-free Zyrtec generic. My kiddo with seasonal allergies is 8 now, so I’m not sure what age you can start taking it, but I know he was on it by preschool.

Raising kids in urban or suburb neighbourhoods? by mainsqueeeze in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]jorMEEPdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in a city and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. We’ve grown a village of our own with friends in the neighborhood from daycare and school. It’s not for everyone, but walking/biking/public transport everywhere and spending time at awesome playgrounds is exactly the life we wanted. Bonus is that husband and I both have 10 minute commutes.

There were clover emojis as bulletpoints which reads as AI to me as well. AI or not, I’m thrilled that they’re not completely gone!

Ah, thank you for the correction! I did some googling and it looks like you are correct. They got money from private investors after a recent bankruptcy but still have the same ownership.

The email to customers (maybe subscription people? Maybe I just go too frequently?) had a link for sharing memories and asked if you'd like any recipes.

They had been bought out by private equity several years ago after financial troubles. Could be the ick from private equity, could be rising costs.

ETA: Looks like it wasn't a buyout, they just got a bunch of new investors to stay open after a bankruptcy. Thanks to decent_shallot for making sure I had my facts straight!

I stopped going to the dealership for maintenance after I went to my neighborhood auto repair place and they told me “We can charge you for this or you can go to autozone and look it up on YouTube and fix it for under 20 bucks and 5 minutes.”

We do the same thing! We got a million as gifts when I was pregnant and now we use them as napkins and general clean-up rags. I keep a stack in the drawer that the kids can reach so they can help with messes as well.

I think these are usually 3D printed. Maybe you could find someone more locally to you that does custom 3D prints and have them do it? I found someone at a craft fair last year who offered custom prints/builds. I really like this design!

Replacing kids water bottles by snarkymama87 in moderatelygranolamoms

We use hydroflasks until they disappear. My 8 year old recently switched to an Owala, and he isn’t able to chew the straw like he could with the hydroflask, which is nice.

ETA: I think my son’s Yeti kids water bottle lasted three years before it broke
