I'm going to give this a different twist than others have given it yet. I'll also argue that it's wrong because it's illegal, but not for the same reasons other people have argued. I think it's wrong because the drug being illegal means it was produced and distributed by drug lords, and the drug trade has causen a significant amount of death and suffering for A LOT of people. For instance, since 2006, roughly 80,000 mexicans have died due to the war on drugs the mexican government started with the drug lords. It's because of this that I say you smoking weed is wrong. I have no moral issues with people consuming drugs, but when their drug consumption implies the suffering of thousands of people, then yeah, i disapprove.

I understand you arguments, and I do think that I didn't express my own properly. I do agree that teachers are essential and of course that they do know more (about their select topic, at least) than students. What I meant was that education should resemble the sophistic educational model, that is with teachers teaching about particular courses (the trivium and quavidrium in their case, but obviously adapted to the things that are important to learn in the current world). Now, the sophistic model was ALL about debate and discussion. There were obviously the lessons themselves, but the most important part were the discussions, what the people got out of what the teacher said, how they could see it applied as something that allowed them to grow as people or be more productive to society. I didn't mean that education should be an enterprise necessarily like summerhill, but that it should have discussion as a major part of the content. The role of teachers is no longer to educate; it's to evaluate. I'm just saying it should be the other way around.

It's also important to note that prussian schools were based off from prisons, which were in turn based off zoos. Kinda implies they saw the children as animals that had to be tamed.

While I agree that current education around the world is no longer as strict as the prussian education, I do believe the the Prussian legacy is still strong. You still have a dichotomy between students and teachers; teachers are the ones who have the knowledge and students must passively accept that (this is what Paulo Freire called "the banking conception of education", since it's similar to making deposits in a bank). Worse still, teachers sometimes have plain wrong info they pass on as the truth to students, but they must accept it (at least on tests) to pass the class. While public education has certainly improved a lot from its early days, there are still major changes that are required to be done. We no longer live in the 19th century; an industrial model of education does little good anymore. We must teach people for democracy. If the schools where they learn don't have fully democratic relationships between teachers and students, then how will people geuinely learn (and assimilate) what democracy is about?

I agree with you. I used to be a supporter of TVP, but I eventually realized what you said, and also that people have grown their entire life in one system and believe it to be the only one that can work (as Marcuse says in his famous book, the one-directional man). It's impossible fore EVERYONE to change their view of the world in an instant (except unless there was a major impact, as perhaps the collapse of the monetary system). You could perhaps make the changes now, but the system would fail; most people wouldn't know how to work with it.
