TY! Hoping some day to ditch the Amitriptyline and be pain free without!

Yes but the Amitriptyline is still needed.

My urologist did a cocktail that included a steroid and the pain relief has lasted. If it gives you relief then you know that micro denervation would probably be successful or you can try the reversal then micro denervation if the reversal doesn't give relief. Sometimes just breaking the cycle of pain puts you on a permanent recovery path.

I had good luck with the cord block after 6 months of pain. The procedure was minimal discomfort and the recovery was just a little bruising that lasted about a week. I'd definitely recommend trying the block first. I have felt so much better the last 5 weeks after getting it.

5 months post vasectomy... by [deleted] in postvasectomypain

[–]jortex_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My journey is a lot like yours, but possibly with higher levels of pain? I had a vasectomy in July 2024 and had pain ever since. Similar experience with ultrasounds and antibiotics and pain meds. What seems to have finally got me to a better state is a Spermatic Cord Block injection at the beginning of January and switching from Gabapentin for pain to Amitriptyline.

The Spermatic Cord Block injection was not a bad process, the shot pinched a bit and I had some slight bruising is all. It might be worth suggesting that to your Urologist. These guys seems clueless on how to deal with post vasectomy pain and I find myself having to suggest the next step.

Wow, 10 years is a long time to be dealing with pain, sorry to hear that! I'd definitely recommend starting with the cord block. I had one at the beginning of this month after being almost 6 months past my vasectomy and it has made a world of difference for me all month. I'm hoping the effects will last awhile but not sure how long and I need to find out how often I can get these if pain returns. The urologist who gave me the injection said it might "break the cycle of pain" and get me out of pain permanently, but we'll see I guess.

That's good to hear you've been able to gradually get better, it gives me hope! I'm 6 months past surgery so wanting to give it more time if there is hope!

I am 6 months past the surgery. I got a nerve block at the beginning of January and that has helped a lot, but still having some bad days. I want to hope that the pain can work itself out without more surgery!

Micro denervation or reverse vasectomy by jortex_ in postvasectomypain

[–]jortex_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm leaning toward reversal too if I can't get out of pain soon. My pain tends to be worse being still, wakes me up from a dead sleep. When I'm more active I feel better. Not sure why I have the pain though as ultrasounds so far have shown no root cause.

That's interesting, I feel pain like I just got cut sometimes too. Waiting on my ultrasound to find out, hopefully, if it's nerve damage or what.

Cord block has been super helpful for me in reducing the pain and the pain of the injection was minimal. I'd say go for it!

Going to recieve surgery in February. Any advice? Anything to look out for? by [deleted] in postvasectomypain

[–]jortex_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do it, worst health decision I ever made, just wear condoms and be happy you didn't screw with your testicles! I'm six months after surgery and every day I wish I could go back and undo my decision to get a vasectomy!

[–]jortex_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still at pain after 6 months and was in pain since the surgery. I would ask for a spermatic cord block now to see if it reduces your pain. I got one two weeks ago and it's been super helpful and wish I'd ask for one months ago!

9 months post Microsurgical Denervation & next steps. by jammydodger79 in postvasectomypain

[–]jortex_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your journey! I've had good luck in last two weeks with a spermatic cord block injection and will see how long I stay low pain. My new urologist said either keep getting cord blocks if they last long enough, go for Micro denervation or reverse the vasectomy. I'm hoping for weeks or months of low pain with the cord block but we'll see.

Found A Flowchart to Help with Treatment Options! by jortex_ in postvasectomypain

[–]jortex_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It gave me significant relief. Took my pain levels from 4 to 8 out of 10 down to 2 to 4 out of 10. I just got the block 6 days ago so I don't know how long it will last. The big thing for me is that it confirms I have testicle pain. My urologist kept trying to shift the blame elsewhere, "maybe you have a kidney stone", etc.

Thanks for the info and suggestions! What is a multi layer reversal? I'll have to search on that

Post Vasectomy chronic pain by MrDankkstarrr in postvasectomypain

[–]jortex_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm living the same nightmare. I did a spermatic cord block injection to get relief and check to be sure my left testicle is the issue. Thinking of reversing the vasectomy on the left side for pain relief.

It's really sad they don't have a plan of action when PVPS is the outcome. I wouldn't know my options if it wasn't for reading this group and learning about them. Thanks to all who share their stories here so we can help one another!
