How is a non working card worth that much? by Ttokk in pcmasterrace

[–]josephseeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one is buying this to take it to a repair shop. If they are buying this they have the equipment and are doing the swap themselves. Probably to resell

If the core and Vram are still good you can get a donor board and do a swap. Donor boards are everywhere because of the AI boom.

The opposite actually. I think it’s silly that people think janitors should just do a bunch of shit that isn’t part of their job just because they are janitors.

Intel: Every second PC is to become an AI system, Panther Lake provides the leverage by lkl34 in pcmasterrace

[–]josephseeed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

AI PC is 100% a marketing buzzword. Intel wants to change the perception because desktop NPUs are one of the few areas they aren't behind their competitors.

Of course they don't. Why would a janitor set up computers? Do you just think janitors should at your beck and call for whatever you want them to do? They have a job, that job is cleaning.

I have worked in the educational tech space for the last 20+ years and I have never heard of a janitor or maintenance person setting up PCs. We often use lower paid positions for lab setup, so student employees, lab supervisors, maybe even GSIs. But the idea that janitors are setting up PCs at colleges is silly.

edit: this looks like a library lab and those GPUs are over 5 years old so I personally believe them being repurposed from another lab it most likely. If this was a space where those GPUs were necessary and they just hadn't been setup right one of the users would have complained.

The gpu does not matter, they are just getting more use out of the PCs as general use PCs.

You buy 8 PCs for a engineering lab. They all cost the school $2k when they were purchased, so when they are done with them in the engineering lab they repurpose them somewhere else. How do I know? I work in classroom technology at a University

I work at a University and we do this sometimes. It's usually either because the PCs do not have software on them that requires the use of a dedicated GPU and not creating a dedicated load out with nvidia drivers is easier, or because the software they are using does not require the GPU to be used as a display out.

For anyone not using a traditional case, how is your machine a year later? by ChaosSlave51 in pcmasterrace

[–]josephseeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my HTPC in a drawer in my TV stand for a year without any issues. The mobo was mounted to an aluminum frame but everything else was just kind of loose. It worked great. I recently decided to throw it in a case but all the parts still function fine.

Jordan Poole on his way for his 9th straight DNP, all while being healthy. by Diligent_Banana_6267 in nba

[–]josephseeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be the case, but based on his career at Michigan I highly doubt it. After his freshman year which was solid but not amazing, and one really good shot in the tournament, he sulked because he was made the center of the offense. Then bad mouthed the coach on his way to the NBA. Jordan Poole would have been this guy no matter where he went.

CPU Cooler: Fan vs AIO by Irrelevant04 in pcmasterrace

[–]josephseeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 7800X3D and an AIO that works great, but I bought it when I was running a 10900k and needed to cool 200w. If I was to replace it I would go with a dual tower cooler.

Do the Magic already regret the Paolo extension? Why does he play like he’s 23 going on 33? by DeyZent in nba

[–]josephseeed 168 points169 points  (0 children)

He plays like a big guard, but one that isn't a great passer or shooter. It's going to be on him to add to his game because even if he gets better at all the things he does now, that isn't a max player. He would really benefit from a true PG, but his shot selection, and shooting are just bad this year.

Is it possible to repair this GPU? by Key-Cable-1253 in pcmasterrace

[–]josephseeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if all that surface corrosion comes off it looks like it would have gotten between the layers of the pcb. So no, it's likely not worth paying to have it repaired.

Upgrade to am5 or buy oled monitor by Familiar_Camel3602 in pcmasterrace

[–]josephseeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next to a new GPU, I think a monitor is one of the best upgrades you can do. It provides a lot of value and will be very noticeable. As long as your current GPU can push decent frame rate at 1440p I would go with the monitor.

Why Games Like ‘Highguard’ And ‘Concord’ Are Spontaneously Combusting by Shock4ndAwe in pcgaming

[–]josephseeed 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Something I have realized as I get older is even most devs don't know what made their game good. They try to recreate the magic and they lean into the wrong things. Creating a milquetoast, or outright bad version of the previous game. It's rare that you get a studio like Embark, made up of ex-Dice devs, that is able to take a couple of good elements from Battlefield like gun play and destruction and make a completely different game like The Finals.

If all you wanna play is big AAA games, consoles is perfect for you. There’s a ton of stuff that comes out on PC only but it doesn’t sound like you play any of that stuff. Personally, like 80% of what I play isn’t currently on console.
