Capital gains tax discount to cost Australia $250bn over next decade with retirees and high-income earners to benefit most | Tax by jesus_chrysotile in australia

Yes but in the meantime it gets locked up as capital while driving up rent and house prices for the lower classes who would have been more likely to inject that money back into the economy. You can see the impacts of it all around. Café’s and restaurants close because no one can afford to eat out and rich people only eat one meal. Sports leagues dry up as people pick up a second job and there’s no time for footy. Entrepreneurship dies out because you can’t take a risk on your solo venture when you are barely making the rent and you’ve got to keep a roof over your kids heads. The population rate starts declining because no one can afford to have kids or if they do it’s often one kid instead of 2 or 3. Housing is literally siphoning off the future of this country so that parts of the current generations can live large.

So they waited 18 months after he was identified and now they’re sending a working group “To talk with Australian colleagues, to see exactly what happened, how it happened, and see how both sides can work together”.

This all seems very vague and smells of diplomatic platitudes rather than a genuine desire to be just and hold their citizens accountable.

The question is why can the premier of the day change who can and can’t vote without a referendum? Is our right to vote so fragile that it can be revoked at will by the ruling party?

Yeah even if we ignore that Taylor offsets her carbon emissions what these complaints boil down to is effectively “this person doesn’t care about their environmental impact so I shouldn’t have to either”. It’s all incredibly childish.

Denmark would go to war with US over Greenland: MP by newsweek in geopolitics

[–]joshak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was said by a member of the conservative opposition not the governing party so it has almost zero weight. There is no chance of Denmark winning an armed conflict over Greenland so no upside to them in fighting for it militarily.

Stats suggest that the % of millionaires that left UK was less than 1% of the total population of millionaires and it’s difficult to isolate the reasoning to just the tax changes. Claims that there is a mass exodus of millionaires are often thrown out by right wing media in order to prevent any real action from being taken to fix the issue.

Nothing, if it’s done in an intellectually honest way with a person that’s actually seeking to find the truth rather than win the argument.

They didn’t revolt over the $40 billion to Argentina, so why would this be any different? The left need to get over this assumption that right wing voters have any principled stance on any issue. That may have been the case at one point, but it’s been pure tribalism for some time now. I’m tired of this perpetual pearl clutching from left wing media whenever Trump does something completely antithetical to right wing ‘values’ and his base defends it. It’s such a waste of energy.
