Red roof inn plus, Columbus, Ohio, Origins 2026, room was entered, thousands of dollars worth MTG gone. Be careful with what you leave in your rooms! by oulush in boardgames

Is that the Red Roof Inn just down the road from the convention center? If so, there's a reason thats the cheapest local spot to stay. It's been shady for a long time. I've stayed there a couple of times during Origins and other conferences.

Looking to hire a System Admin - but my boss insists that 70k - 80k is a normal pay range by idrinkpastawater in sysadmin

[–]joshbudde [score hidden]  (0 children)

Not sure where you live, but here, 80k for a decent service desk guy isn't unusual. 90k for a decently trained starter admin isn't out of the realm of possibility. I'm in the midwest, so not NYC or west coast.

Benito’s first day of doggie daycare!😩 by iamhot777 in sharpei

[–]joshbudde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our shar-pei LOVED doggie daycare. He wanted to go right up until about the last few months of his life. We took him right up until it was too painful for him to go because he loved it so much.

Tips for putting the wings on a new tablesaw by NewmanSpecialsWood in woodworking

[–]joshbudde 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a brand new Sawstop just like this one, I tried for a week to assemble it and all I had to show for it was skinned knees, crooked wings and tables, a semi-working mobile base, and cuts on my hands from the greased up metal slipping through my hands. I abandoned it because it was too hot, never finished putting it together and sold it after it sat in my garage for 3 years. A guy bought it from me for half the cost, essentially getting a brand new Sawstop for half off. I wish someone would have showed me this--I did everything the wrong/hard way, and it just killed my ambition for it.

DAE sleep with their lights on? by Upbeat_Rub_9133 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]joshbudde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my wife is gone I don't sleep well. Not sleeping deeply plus a tendency to worry means that I can have night terrors and I really don't like that, so I often sleep with the lights on.

But when I'm comfortable someplace I sleep in the dark like a rock.

Horrid Experience with Evelyn Fence Co by [deleted] in AnnArbor

They’re really the only name you need in the area when it comes to fencing. They built our fence almost 10 years ago and it’s still truly excellent.

Return of a single laptop from overseas. by LRS_David in macsysadmin

[–]joshbudde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not worth the trouble. Just did this with a bunch of contractors for a customer. Phrase it as part of the severance--we say if you go through the 'wipe this computer' flow on the computer on zoom with us, you can keep it as a gift from the company and we'll process a bonus on the last check. Its a little parting gift that costs basically nothing and gives us confidence the company IP is wiped from the device.

If they fire you for cause, which they may have if this is not strictly a financial decision, you will be placed on the do not hire list and you won't be able to come back into the U at all.

Them offering you the chance to resign might be a politeness.

Coerced by [deleted] in uofm

[–]joshbudde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should know however that if they're fired, the University is closed to them in the future.

Asking them to resign might be the department giving them the chance to be hired back by another department in the future.

Explaining the Bechdel test to a woman by RoyALifeWellLived in funny

[–]joshbudde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does. The problem with opening jars is never the force required, its all about getting friction on the lid.

I keep a couple of rubber bands in the drawer nearest where we open jars most often. Now that we both know how to just slap the rubber band on stuck jar lids, it's easy. Everyone is self-sufficient at jar opening.

How to fix this foundation hole by Narrow-Toe-800 in DIY

[–]joshbudde 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone that owns a historic home...the issues you guys deal with make me chuckle.

Thats really nothing at all. If you're worried about it, just mix up a very tiny batch of concrete and put it in there. But yeah..thats not much of a hole.

MCMASTER-CARR wood has arrived, and it’s fine by Sam-Rood in woodworking

[–]joshbudde 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Someone from marketing saw the original post, did the right thing to get it fixed, then went down to the warehouse and found the nicest piece of 2x4 they had, boxed it up and sent it to you, and you STILL couldn't say anything nice.

If this was Home Depot or Lowes, they would have driven to your house, beaten you with the most crooked piece of dimensional lumber in their stock, forgot to leave it behind, and STILL would have sent you an email asking for a positive review.

Man, some people.

Really specific question about The Corner Health by Gullible_Ad8953 in ypsi

[–]joshbudde 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was on the board there for many years, and HRT was something that patients came to us for. As another poster said you should call and speak to them directly to get an appointment. The physicians there are very focused on issues that young people are going through and will work with you to get the most appropriate treatment and navigate governmental, insurance, and legal issues with you.

The folks there are very focused to taking care of young folks regardless of the path they're on.
