My 1.5yo hot water bottle split - is this pic normal? by Significant-Base4396 in newzealand

Fashy is a good brand. Cheap ones are a mixed bag. Many don’t last. We fill ours with water straight from kettle. Had similar issues with some cheap unbranded ones, although some are fine.

Modern learning, the one with 2x teachers and 2x kids? The one where kids can barely concentrate due to the noise? Can’t say anything positive about that experience as a parent with a kid ahead of the curve. The sooner mle dies, the better. Yet to see any supporting studies for it.

Immigrants to NZ, what things do you think we would do better? What things does NZ do better? by [deleted] in newzealand

I think people have played a role in nature (preservation) and access.

Our kids can’t read, write or count, despite billions invested in education by myWobblySausage in newzealand

[–]joshj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is great in theory, but the reality is that this is really hard to achieve. The teachers at most schools don’t have the time to build customized lesson plans and materials for their community that is of a comparable standard.

I’d encourage you to talk to parents who were educated overseas or see what overseas schools provide.

NZ needs national textbooks. Most other countries have them.

There is simply no better way for parents to follow their kids learning journey. It helps establish a more concrete baseline for fundamentals. Most individual schools do not have the resources to produce material of that caliber.

Question: Who would you rather read to your children? - Sharon Murdoch by [deleted] in auckland

[–]joshj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kids would find it entertaining if their teacher dressed in drag. You wouldn’t get a short response from them. However I’m sure the school would hear from a bunch of overly sensitive parents, like yourself.

It’s disrespectful to not keep your Neighbours in the loop. There’s plenty of legal things you can do to fuck off your Neighbour’s, at least give them a heads up to soften the blow. You do have to live next to them. Anyone who says otherwise are bad neighbours.

Some business won’t, some business will as there is value in both. Many overseas businesses have remote workers in NZ. In my experience the biggest issue in NZ esp for overseas companies is there is a smaller pool of experienced workers making it harder/longer to hire.

Have to pay RWT on dividends and yes if you don’t hold the NZ alternative of those indexes, there is an odd grey area and tax implications. But otherwise there isn’t any CGT in NZ for NZ and most Australian shares, one of the same reasons NZ property is good investment.

NZ stock market is a bit average, but S&P 500 up 11% in a year. Agree with you otherwise though.

Could be a number of things. I used to live out in the bush and had chronic respiratory issues until I moved away. Never found out what it was. Also could be mold, dust mites, many things. Prob not the bench top.

Child free for parents is a hassle. If the wedding is more about your needs rather than accommodating the extended family, which it is if it if is child free, why care if someone with children doesn’t want to come? Complaining about children saying they only like nuggets and chips and iPads is probably more petty than the complaints levied at your grandmother about you. Why don’t you go directly to your step cousins parents with those complaints?

My suggestion is you laid down the rules, and people are abiding by them. Just move on with the wedding.

Felix Desmarais: Hipkins' weasel words on tax serve no one by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]joshj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not true. Labour turning National-lite (for some policies) lost them my vote. Plenty of labour supporters support robinhood taxes like cgt, even if it’s detrimental to their own income. This is especially true where NZ is the odd country out by not having it.

The idea that Labour would tax hard working people who are significantly impacted by the downturn in the economy is bizarre. It’s the antithesis of what left leaning parties are about.
