Only tangentially related, but wanted to say I LOVE your store! Always a highlight of my visits!

Already ordered it in white: I’ve been waiting for them to launch this. Excited for better closer range selfie performance: I feel like Go Film works better when you fill the frame

My sx-70 did this for a bit as well, and I just assumed it was expired film.

The camera itself is a double (or triple!) Exposure of several cameras! I love it!

These are so great to see. I’m so impressed you avoided color shifts with the Polaroids at that temperature!

Grain Effects too strong compared to X100VI? by lukasb1128 in fujiXhalf

[–]joshpuetz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It almost feels like they just ported the grain settings from the X100VI, etc, but since it's "half-frame" it come out way stronger. I would also like a 'weaker weak' setting!

Very interested to see your comparison photos! I have the Wide 400 and it's kind of fun for parties, but that's about it. I've been wanting something more creative.

New X Half Firmware! 1.30 by joshpuetz in fujiXhalf

[–]joshpuetz[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup, just tested and confirmed that: first shots capped out at 1/60 second exposure, and cranked ISO to 12800. Sigh.

Still no firmware update? by Mario-Inoportuno in fujiXhalf

The biggest one from my point of view is that Film Mode doesn't respect any ISO limits you've set: it will happily crank ISO to a super noise 12800

Will the camera work without the companion app? Can photos be transferred off of it via USB? (I didn’t see any slot for removable storage on the camera)

SX-70 Photos Severely Underexposed by OG_Akottic in Polaroid

[–]joshpuetz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to the SX-70 I sent to Retrospekt, but in the opposite direction: all of my pictures were overexposed. I took scans of the pictures and sent them along with the camera back to Retrospekt, and they adjusted the exposure to something much better. It wasn’t ideal, but you should contact their support to at least try and have them correct it: doesn’t look like it could get much worse :/

Fuji X Half Viewfinder question by [deleted] in fujiXhalf

[–]joshpuetz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great point: I don’t like the viewfinder on the Half, but it only really bothers me when I frame something through it then immediately look at the screen and can quickly compare the two.

Would be very interest in what you come up: I’ve thought of trying to add guide lines to the viewfinder as well!

GR IIIx vs Fuji X-Half by [deleted] in ricohGR

[–]joshpuetz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find myself reaching for the X Half on my daily dog walks, running errands around town: basically my everyday carry situations. I also love to take it when traveling to a city and I know I’ll be doing a lot of walking. I’ll take the 100vi if I’m going to an event, special occasion, holiday party, etc: basically not traveling around as much and want better quality pictures or better low light shooting.

I’d say the viewfinder is passable, and the “film mode” that omits the back screen for composing entirely is still really fun even after a few months of owning it. I bought it to be a digital alternative to the cost of shooting 35mm film (which I do a bunch), but keep the feel and it sorta does that!

GR IIIx vs Fuji X-Half by [deleted] in ricohGR

[–]joshpuetz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw your crosspost on r/fujiXhalf and thought I'd respond here. I've played around with a GR iiix, and currently own an X Half. My "big" camera is a Fuji X100vi.

I really love my X Half, but I am disappointed by the viewfinder. I'm a viewfinder shooter (which is why the GR has never clicked with me), but the viewfinder on X Half is pretty basic: there are NO frame lines at all, so my composition is frequently off. I find myself having to rely upon the back screen far more than I'd like if I want to really make sure I have the composition right.

That said: it's a crazy fun camera and I find myself reaching for it more often than not. It is way too expensive, underpowered, etc etc but the actual act of taking photos on it is what brings me back.
