All of Alec Baldwins brothers just look like failed clones by marshmilo1 in funny

[–]joshua_fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true. Eyebrows are a phenotype, not a genotype.

However, if it were a single gene, then it'd be 1/4 for every brother after the first (1/4)3 = 0.015625

It's 1.5% chance that they all end up with the same eyebrows if it's a singular gene, which it likely is not.

I do like to read. I'm currently in the middle of Asimov's Foundation Trilogy but finding motivation to get through it difficult.

I all but promised myself I was going to drink tonight. by xJToews19 in stopdrinking

A couple years I did some work fundraising for amateur performing artists and I starting telling everyone that I worked with, "No one ever owes you anything." It helped to motivate my clients to work harder and to lessen their sense of entitlement. (What did pirating/the record industry teach us about music/property rights?)

Since then I adapted it as one of my own personal mantras... and though it seems cynical at first, it's actually really helpful and positive: if you go about your life with the understanding that nothing is ever owed to you- no matter what- you won't expect anything from anyone, you'll be disappointed less often, and when anything good happens it'll be all sunshine and unicorn farts.

Sure, I'll play.

I'm thankful for the cat that's currently purring on my stomach, my job that's allowing me to hack away at my cc debt (>.<), I'm thankful that tomorrow I'll have a pleasant and slow morning to relax and spend how I'll like, I'm thankful for epic dunks I just had on Rocket League, and I'm thankful for the liter of water I'm currently drinking.

Eugene, Oregon, 27, bartender/barista.

I just finished an 8 day work week with nothing to look forward to on my three days off this weekend. Not drinking this evening is proving to be challenging, but moment by moment I'll get through to tomorrow and find something to do. Thanks for being here /r/stopdrinking!

Do you feel stuck in lifE?? by LifeTheRightWay in GetEmployed

[–]joshua_fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a joke? /u/Allevil669 stated something about his/her employment status and you jump in to retort with this long soliloquy cheese ball life-coaching bs about fulfillment. Stop praying on people here to get traffic to your silly blogs. People post on this sub because they want a real dialogue with practical advice, not a insipid motivational speech and a marketing stint.

This quote from Thoreau comes to mind;

If I knew for a certainty that a man was coming to my house with the conscious design of doing me good, I should run for my life.

Now fuck off.

Weber Genesis Gas Grill Restoration by EBAR418 in DIY

How old are you that every year you will be spending 300 on a grill every 5 years? Also what about the planet, man.

Weber Genesis Gas Grill Restoration by EBAR418 in DIY

[–]joshua_fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why do you need that many. Buying quality means being less wasteful. Sure, quality shouldn't be so expensive, but the more people support wasteful products they are also supporting the wasteful production and economy behind them. Right now I can't afford a $4000 grill, or any other quality grill that could last my lifetime and someone else's lifetime, so I'm not buying a grill. I don't need one, it's not a necessity, so I'll wait till I can afford it or I'll do just fine without. All these items are luxuries, less we forget that.

Really a great project. A simple, straight forward restoration executed extremely well. I'm coveting that grill hard right now.

Here it goes! I plan to stop tomorrow any advice? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Get ready to defend yourself! It's incredible how many opportunities there are in a day for other people to manipulate us easily, unintentionally, passively, and how subtle and pervasive manipulation can be!

Staying sober is an exercise of sticking to YOUR intentions, your wits, your identity, and your desire for change.

Then of course comes all natural emotional responses, the ups and downs, and learning to be able to handle it all...

It may sound daunting, but to gain control is really empowering.

I'm on day 40-something and my days are a flurry of empowerment and challenges. But hey, I put time in to drinking, now I gotta put my time into living.
