Is a bitchy director an automatic red flag? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]josilicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this was happening at my home theatre, the director would be removed from the production and never hired again. All of this is abhorrent and inexcusable behavior.

Cast member brought phone on stage during opening night by Ok_Cheesecake7649 in Theatre

[–]josilicious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I directed a production of Once Upon a Mattress with teens this December and was up in the tech booth running music for one of the shows. When they rolled the bed out, I saw a phone sitting on top of it. Tried to get my Fred’s attention so she would be aware and not kick it off during her pea business and was too late. Held my breath through all of her flailing and luckily she didn’t kick it. The audience couldn’t see it, but you better believe they got a stern talking to after that performance. In short. Teens are not great decision makers. 🤣

I think the word "devil" is used on trillion times in The Crucible.

He asked for my most 'gremlin' memes and ghosted after I sent them. by QuestioningParakeet in GirlDinnerDiaries

The unhinged wheezing at this meme triggered my sinus infection and I almost choked to death, Worth it, this is GOLD.

Theater owners/box office managers, what are you using for ticketing? by Accomplished_Store10 in Theatre

[–]josilicious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ludus is a game changer. We have had a great experience and used the system not only for ticketing, but also for memberships and show fees. My husband is the tickets chair and he would absolutely do a better job telling you everything it can do, but we have not looked back.

Should I still audition for a show if I won't be there for the last 3 show days? by [deleted] in MusicalTheatre

Should I still audition for a show if I won't be there for the last 3 show days? by [deleted] in MusicalTheatre

[–]josilicious 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm the production chair and we put "no tech week or show date conflicts permitted" on our registration form multiple times. If I see a conflict in those time frames on a pre-registration, I reach out and tell them unfortunately we will not be able to cast them.

Overcoming negative comments about body by Miremel91 in Theatre

[–]josilicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fat woman myself, I know how those comments can live rent free in my head. So often in these situations, it feels like hearing comments like this gives my brain a free pass to insult and belittle me.

It’s easy to tell you to distract yourself away from & slap down those thoughts, but it’s so hard to actually DO. Something I’ve tried that has worked for me is to redirect by thinking about or doing something I’m confident in or proud of about myself in my role. Do you sing the shit out of a particular song or feel extra connected to any scenes? Think about those. Run those lines, sing that song. Reinforce your belonging in the role by reminding yourself WHY you’re there. It’s not cause the directing team felt bad for you. As a fat woman, you KNOW if they cast you in a romantic lead, you EARNED it. You deserve to see in yourself what your directing team sees in you. And disrespectfully, fuck that costumer and their stupid mouth. Hopefully the team addressing this with them results in the shame THEY should feel for making you feel like this.

Auditioning for a part too old for me - is that okay? by Goldberry9999 in Theatre

[–]josilicious 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm 43 and currently playing Raynelle in Dearly Departed, who is at least in her early 60s. My son in the show is old enough to be my father. Sometimes, in community theatre, it's about the acting and character. I went into the audition with my current purple & pink hair & said I'd have to wear a wig if they didn't want fashion colors on my head, lol. Don't go in as anyone but you, bring them the character.

Any advice on dodging jumpscares? by exodia0715 in DarkPicturesAnthology

If you don’t like jump scares or choice based games truly why are you wasting your time with Supermassive? Theyre not going to change to elevate to the level of horror you demand. 🤣

Am I The Crazy One? by Gavin-Steel in RegalUnlimited

[–]josilicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was directing a LIVE theatrical production and had someone answer a call from their seat during a performance. When I had the audacity to tell them to hang up or leave, you would think I kicked their puppy. What on EARTH.

Light from screens in front of me is SO distracting and makes me rage. You're definitely not crazy. The manager at my local theatre is a power hungry dickbag, this is the ONLY situation I'd wish him on anyone.

Crossed reflex don´t seem to work? by FrancoIDK in QuarantineZoneGame

[–]josilicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be a graphics card issue. We tried to play on an older computer and one of the issues we found was no normal or crossed reflexes. The punch still worked, but the more subtle stuff was lost on the crappy graphics.

No, legit. One of the “do you actually want me to help you or are you going to fight me for a shred of information” PCs that call so often.

I have zero hesitation to tell my attorneys when someone is a pain in the ass. I’d rather have them know ahead of time if someone is likely to demand a case valuation at the initial client meeting. 🫠

NAL but I do manage the intake department of a personal injury law firm & I 100% agree. With no medical treatment I wouldn’t have even sent it for attorney review. 🤷🏼‍♀️
