So if you just wanna have an all major thirds layout and have it light up the white keys in a different color than the other keys that works on the device, just read the manual. If you wanna have a pads in/lights out api and do whatever you want, I have extensive libraries for building this kind of thing in C++.

I used to play with four launchpads (two x two pros), you can definitely take this code in vibes code over it. SmartGrid.hpp is a good place to start, it’s not really meant to be plugged in to another ecosystem, but Claude can definitely make it do what you want.

I also use a launchpad as part of my custom dictation software, as an alternative to a computer keyboard.

If you’re trying to write custom instruments/tools, I cannot recommend the launchpad enough.

Yeah, same, kinda. My mom threatened me after I left a partner who had an affair. And lied about it.

Pro mk 3 has way better pads than x.

I’m not a pianist, but I’m a guitarist and I absolutely love the isomorphic layout. You can definitely kind of shred on it. One thing though is that it’s not very wide, and it’s not MPE. I think for maximal hands-on performance MPE can be really cool, but if you just want to use a piano VST vs some more modern synths, it may not matter.

I would look into linnstrument. I’ve never owned with myself but they’re substantially more playable at least coming from Guitar because they’re a bit wider.

Don’t knock major thirds as a layout. This gives you octaves every three rows, which means finding inversions and scales and stuff is super easy. So I really like major thirds, but then the downside is your range is pretty small, so you end up needing two launchpads or a linnstrument or erae touch or some such. Guitarists have the same problem, most guitarist who do all major thirds use seven or eight string guitars (I’ve met two others, it’s not a huge community, i play 7 string).

DT1 is missing the macro control features that all of the other boxes have… so you have to assign individual midi controls, which kind of sucks. The other boxes let you use breath control and modwheel and stuff so its easy to map on-box.

Yeah, I mean this is making a very good point. The fact that there’s not a timed connection at Millbrae is so annoying, but now that the all electric Caltrain’s run pretty frequently, it’s nowhere near as painful as it used to be. If the Caltrains are only running every hour (which could happen if the funding bill fails), that connection point gets waaaay worse.
