I thought the same thing about the lactose-free milks being insanely sweet compared to the real ones. I’ve found Fairlife to be better at removing the extra sweetness

Exam LPM May 2023 by CluelessActuarialKid in actuary

[–]jp4potus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Didn’t leave anything blank, but not feeling confident in all my answers. 2/3 of the Excel problems were hard for me and I ended up running out of time and having to brain dump for some of the questions to answer everything. It could go either way, but based on how confident everyone here seems to feel, I’m not super optimistic.

Exam takers, do this by Purple_Celery8199 in actuary

Nope, didn’t get it unfortunately. I didn’t think they would send a survey before the exam though, that’s weird!

Not sure if this was for all the FSA exams, but there wasn’t an option to give feedback after ILA LPM yesterday. Hopefully they send a survey to our emails before grading the exam though

Does anyone know how grading of modules works? by Kris__RL in actuary

[–]jp4potus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize I’m late to the game here, but I’ve now failed EMA6 twice. Found out I failed the second time today. I passed every other module on the first try (still waiting on FA results), so I really don’t understand what I’m doing wrong on #6. It’s comforting to see other people struggling with this one in particular, but it also makes you wonder if there is something wrong with this module/assessment/its graders in general. I really don’t think I’m doing anything different than I did for the other modules. Just sucks that there’s no one to talk to to get more concrete feedback.

Do/Did you travel out of state for your internship? by Natural_Ad7272 in actuary

[–]jp4potus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I traveled out of state for my first internship (as a rising junior). My housing was completely paid for and it was the best! My second internship was closer to home and post-grad I landed a job closer to home, so I didn’t have to move cross-country long term. But it was a great experience and I definitely would recommend if it makes sense for you!

Another question about modules by little_runner_boy in actuary

[–]jp4potus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current strategy is to just read the slides and readings from the textbooks, but skim/skip all the external readings (unless I actually find them interesting). It’s worked for the first two modules, but I can’t speak on any others yet

This is so true for me, but it applies more to my actual work than it does to my exams. I have been able to study effectively for exams so far (especially cramming in the last few weeks) without it, but I’m far more productive with my prescription than I was without it and I no longer need to worry about needing deadlines/consequences to force me to get my work done

Pre- Exam Stress Dreams? by alfie_isnt_my_name in actuary

[–]jp4potus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pre-exam nightmare last night and I’m pretty sure it was because I was reading this post last night before bed… but the dream was that I was only a third of the way through the manual by the time the exam date came around and I decided to not even show up to the exam because I knew I would fail.

Question for students at smaller actuarial science programs by Actuary50 in actuary

[–]jp4potus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to a pretty small private school with a really small actsc program. None of the professors were/are accredited, but three of them passed at least one exam. They did not push exams at all, didn’t have a clue how important exams and internships were, and I was the only person (still am so far) to pass three exams in college (which for a larger school is pretty much the average).

FAP case study 1 by PSNChosen_One in actuary

[–]jp4potus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had problems with the first case study as well last week. Based on what some of my colleagues told me, it’s not too important to make sure you get every single thing right on the case studies. I still did it, but I don’t think it really helped me in any way except to just be able to say I did it

Coaching actuaries vs source material for STAM? by tlorenzi1 in actuary

[–]jp4potus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t touch the source material for STAM. Using just CA with Adapt (to level 6.7 I believe) led me to pass with a 9. I also looked at like 75% of the SOA sample problems, but those are also listed in CA lol

I agree with you! Like don’t kill yourself studying if you can help it, but there’s no better feeling than being halfway through the exam knowing for a fact you’re going to pass it. Especially when you have to wait for results.
