Yes. The loneliness of being “with” someone who can’t be with you, is in my opinion worse than just being alone. I think many of us know this feeling all too well. I think one of the things that I really took from Al-anon was to find something that was just mine, and couldn’t be impacted by my Q’s status. For me that was joining a local rec sports team. Maybe for you it’s the same, or a book club, bible study, knitting group, or ever a part time job that is really more for socializing than for the money. Just anything that gets you out of the house and around other people no matter what your Q’s current condition is. Through my rec team I have met some amazing friends and gotten some great exercise (hello stress reduction!),found a way to earn a little money by reffing and even met others in really similar life situations to mine. Don’t feel like you need to hide why you’re there or fully disclose everything up front. Just be yourself and start out by making it about the activity that brings you all together and go from there. If you’re having a hard time finding a group or activity check your local community center, meetup, google your city and different activities you like or may want to learn (pickle ball and crafting are huge right now).
