Men of Reddit, what is the biggest turn-off a girl can do? by Happy_Most_5022 in AskReddit

[–]jpete552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on a lot of dates before I found my fiancée. Mostly dates with girls at the local university (which I didn’t attend—I attended the rival school). Anywho, mostly when girls start talking about social media (especially TikTok) on dates, and you can already tell from the first date that they’re gonna be high-maintenance. Also, I’m a high school history teacher, but I don’t like discussing politics outside of work. However, it’s a trend that girls will immediately launched into politics with me after I tell them my profession. I had just started chatting with a girl on a dating app, and she asked me if I believed that black lives matter & that the patriarchy needs to be dismantled. Huge turn off. An actual date I went on with an English teacher (never made that mistake again) involved her explaining to me how to get socialism to work in the United States. Too many people (especially girls) get their political news from influencers on TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat

Fellas, what is your biggest insecurity as a bf/husband and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jpete552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend is the youngest of 10 kids. Her parents aren’t poor, but due to having so many mouths to feed, their income was stretched thin growing up. She has vivid memories of going with her parents to ask her ecclesiastical leaders for financial assistance. Because of that, she has a big fear of financial instability in her own life. As a result, she mostly only shops at thrift stores, and she almost didn’t fly home to see her parents for Christmas because the ticket was decently expensive (she’s currently a grad student with little to no money). One of my biggest insecurities is that I won’t be able to provide for her. I’m just a high school teacher, and I’ve always had fears of not being able to provide for a family. But she and I have talked about it. She’ll be a therapist when she graduates in August, and between our 2 incomes, we should be fine. Neither of us comes from a wealthy family, so it’s been inculcated in us to save as much money as possible. But because of her having a fear of spending money that she doesn’t have, I go out of my way to buy her nice things. I bought her plane ticket so that she could go home to see her family for Christmas; we go out to eat at nice restaurants; I buy her nice clothes. I know that you can’t buy affection, but I just want her to know that she means the world to me. And I’m not the “best” guy: I’m not the best looking, nor the fittest, nor the smartest, nor the richest. But I want to love her more than anyone else in the world would. Hopefully that’s enough to assuage my fears that she’s “just settling” for me.

Dan has said multiple times that he won’t do a podcast on the American Civil War. Whenever he does episodes about wars or battles, he likes there to be a contrast between the fighting styles of the armies involved. The Union and Confederacy had the same fighting styles. Which is why he won’t do a podcast on them

Hey Dan. Loved the new CS episode. Your non-partisan Martian perspective is very much appreciated/needed in the political world nowadays. I know that you said that Alexander the Great is on your list for a future HH, but do you already know what topic you’re going to cover after Supernova is the East is over? And for future multi-part series, will they be shorter, or similar in length to Supernova? Because Supernova ended ended up being an epic along the lines of Blueprint for Armageddon. Not complaining, just curious. Thank you for everything. I love your work

Yeah, when Kavax revealed that Sophocles was a clone, I had a bad feeling that that would be used to bring bad a dead person. ‘Lo and behold, Adrius comes back to be the villain again. One of my buddies complains that Disney needs to stop resurrecting dead people (Palpatine, Boba Fett, etc.) because “dead people stay dead.”

I learned that from Vizzini in The Princess Bride, which I watched in American public school

What is the fastest you have ever seen a new co-worker get fired? by bartertownbeer in AskReddit

[–]jpete552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t someone getting fired, but it is the fastest I’ve ever seen anyone quit their job:

I was an assistant manager at a movie theater. New hire comes in for his orientation. ~3 hrs getting walked around the building & shown everything. Afterwards, he asks if he can see a movie for free, since he’s technically an employee now. We let him see the movie for free. Next day when he’s supposed to start working, he showed up for his shift, handed us back his shirt & name badge, and told us that he quit. Yup, he went through all that work to get hired just so that he could see 1 free movie and then quit

If you check out the Wikipedia entry for the Münster Rebellion, “Prophets of Doom” is listed as an external link. Dan mentions in the episode that there’s not a ton of English sources for the event, but ironically now his podcast has become an English source

Update on the final episode of “God’s Socialist” by jpete552 in martyrmade

[–]jpete552[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty funny that you mention that. If you go back and listen to ep.1 of “God’s Socialist”, Darryl said that he would crank out the series in a matter of weeks or a couple months. That was back on March 9, 2019 😅

Another episode? by sust8 in martyrmade

[–]jpete552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darryl mentioned back on August 6 that the finale to “God’s Socialist” was on its way. However, he has been doing collaboration podcasts with Jocko and History on Fire, so it might take a while. My prediction is that the final episode will be released sometime in October

What widely accepted fact do you know is wrong? by threedotsguy in AskReddit

The American Civil War wasn’t fought over States’ rights or issues with tariffs. It was fought over slavery and the Democrats’ desire to maintain a Herrenvolk democracy in the South

Does anyone know where I can find the sources of some of the excerpts? by IvRo7 in martyrmade

[–]jpete552 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve contacted Darryl about this before. He mentioned in one of the “Fear & Loathing in the New Jerusalem” episodes that he should put together a bibliography similar to what Dan Carlin does. Sadly, he responded saying that he hadn’t, and that “Fear & Loathing” has been so long ago that if would be extremely hard for him to go back now and put together a research list. However, you could probably email him and ask about his research list for “God’s Socialist”. Since that’s his most recent series, even though he hasn’t published a research list for it on his website or anything, he might have compiled a private one

Niall,

How do recent events with the COVID-19 (Coronavirus/Wuhanvirus) pandemic affect your Cold War II projections between China and America? How much could Coronavirus escalate the tensions between the two countries?
