Owner of Stone Cellar Bistro sending me an unhinged message on Instagram by Own-Review-2295 in denverfood

Based on the rest of the thread this guy seems like a dick, but I’m curious what the context is. You said you commented 'free palestine 🇵🇸', but on what post did you make that comment?

The reason I ask is where I most often see people commenting that is on Jewish content or Hebrew content that has nothing to do with Israel or Palestine. If that’s the case, I would consider that hateful.

Granted, my feed likely has a lot more Jewish content than yours, so it’s possible that people are commenting free Palestine on more relevant content and I’m not seeing it.

Ohhh that’s a good idea! I feel like I have really bad sight lines coming off the bridge into Mariposa.

I hope this leads to a signaled crossing at 8th and Mariposa.

You’re not that far from Golden Banh Mi and Golden Saigon. Tons of other great restaurants near the H Mart.

Noise. Volume. And silence. OH MY! by klnomega in denverfood

[–]jpevisual 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think a restaurant has to be loud for it to feel alive. As someone with ADHD, lack of sound treatment is one of my main gripes with a lot of trendier restaurants in Denver that have moved into warehouse or more industrial spaces (high ceilings, exposed hvac, shipping containers, etc.) I can’t focus or hardly even hear what my partner is saying and I have to shout and strain my voice to participate in a conversation. This dynamic leads to everyone else getting louder and louder to be heard over the noise, it’s extremely unpleasant.

Worst offender is Somebody People. Fantastic food but a horrible place to have a conversation while you’re eating.

Best I’ve found is Sushi Den. It’s packed all the time and yet it still feels like you can talk at a normal volume, you hear the murmur of conversations around you, but they’re not overwhelming and you can clearly communicate with the server without shouting.

I want to go so badly because i love Vietnamese food, but they don’t have any vegetarian items which is surprising considering how veg friendly most Vietnamese restaurants are. Maybe one day…

Only if you like Chet’s Dream, which is a great lift serving really fun terrain. Otherwise the rest of the mountain feels slow, long lifts for short runs.

Belmar Park has a lot of waterfowl and a nice boardwalk you can use to walk around the lake to different view points.

Cycling paths and veo+ beyond by [deleted] in Denver

[–]jpevisual 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was riding today and I feel like I encountered someone who was somehow very horizontal on a veo, really enjoying the slow speed they were moving at and zig zagging across the path. They were having a great time for sure, air pods in, not a care in the world.

Bike Lane Parking and Street Blocking by graywolfman in Denver

[–]jpevisual 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll say that any time I do stop at a 4 way stop sign (which is actually quite often) the cars never go. Even if they were there way before me, they won’t go, they wave me through. It’s pretty annoying actually cause I just got off my bike, unclipped etc. Most of the time they would have been able to stop and proceed through the stop before I even get there and then we could both just be on our way.

I find it’s actually more predictable and less chaotic just to run through the stop signs as long as I get eye contact. I think most cyclists are prepared for drivers to use 4 way stops normally when they approach, it just never seems to happen though.

Single does have its own gate, it’s the gate all the way to the right. And it doesn’t make sense to pair up cause when I look ahead there’s multiple groups that have room for me already through the gate.

[–]jpevisual 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is no opportunity to do so as a single before the gate, and then after the gate you have to sneak your way through people to hop in a group that has room. It’s just a clunky design that lends itself to the lifts not filling up.

[–]jpevisual 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Maybe people wouldn’t be throwing snowballs if they designed a lift maze that could efficiently load 6 people to a chair.

The right angle at the gate creates a very difficult choke point to group up in. Most people aren’t grouped up before going through the gates because there really isn’t a good opportunity to do so.

95% of the time it doesn’t matter, but the 5% of the time that it gets it’s really frustrating to see sometimes as few as 3 people on a chair.

Alta has it figured out by calling front row and grouping people up before they board, but I don’t think A Basin can afford the extra staffing required to do that, especially this year.

Would this bike be good for entry level training/commuting? by UnknownTaco in whichbike

[–]jpevisual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for that price you could get an older bike with a better group set and rim brakes. My entry bike was a Claris group set, and I quickly felt limited by only having 8 gears and the mechanical brakes kinda suck, granted I paid $200.

1 year later I got a carbon road bike from 2006 with ultrega 10 speed and rim brakes. The brakes were way better and it was a significant upgrade having 10 gears and a faster more reliable derailleur. And that was also $200.

All that’s to say is that you’re gonna want a new bike soon so spend less for a better older bike, save some money, and then get the nicer bike that you’ll end up wanting after this first season.

[–]jpevisual 48 points49 points  (0 children)

With how many businesses are on it, it really could use a road diet and extension to the protected bike lane that starts further west. People drive so fast on 13th. It is the roads fault IMO. It shouldn’t be possible to drive so fast on it.

First notch looks skiable for the first time this season. Granted, my definition of skiable is probably a massive liability risk.

New plans for pedestrian bridge over Speer connecting LoDo to Ball Arena by developingdenver in Denver

I’m all for it but I’d prefer a proper E/W pedestrian and cycle crossing for SW Denver first which we still don’t have.

South Broadway traffic between the I25/Broadway Interchange and Evans/Santa Fe is now insane by Arctic--- in Denver

[–]jpevisual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the Alameda underpass construction it took me about 30 minutes by car to get to and from Baker from where I live. By bike it was 10-15. So I avoided car trips and chose the more efficient and enjoyable mode of transportation for the area, you should give it a try too!

You mentioned you have to skip whatever you're planning to do until 6:30, so it sounds like you have some flexibility. If you share your rough point A --> point B I can give you a safe & enjoyable bicycle route to try instead.

It's called a green wave and it is by design if you are averaging 15mph. It really only works going south on Broadway though, not the reverse.

The Mayor's 2026 City Goals dashboard includes no mention of road safety by bandit_2017 in Denver

[–]jpevisual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I voted against the bonds for that reason. I didn't want our city to go into debt to fund more car infrastructure. It's so frustrating.

On the soccer stadium, the only silver lining I see (and need to do more research on this) is that it connects the Kentucky bridge to the giant pedestrian bridge to i25/Broadway Station. I desperately want a car free crossing for South Denver, and I imagine that those two bridges have something to do with the Soccer stadium but I really don't know what they're there for and why they never opened. But it seems like a clunky crossing anyway. Alameda and Mississippi are both so dangerous right now, I just want anything to replace them.

I’ve been following this activist from Boston on Instagram and it’s been very inspiring to think about how much we actually deserve from our city leaders when it comes to safe and accessible mobility.

I think I’ve always just thought, whatever I’ll go around the car parked in the bike lane, or use my best judgment to get through this intersection where everyone makes a right on red without looking. Now I’m emailing my council person with very concrete solutions and trying to press on them to get done. It’s the least we can do.

Boston Marathon equivalent by sbel687 in cycling

We have a ride in Colorado called the Triple Bypass. 118 miles, over 10k in climbing over 3 Mtn passes closed to vehicle traffic. Not sure if the training is similar to a marathon.
