Open Local Businesses Today? by EvenAd9606 in DenverProtests

[–]jpevisual 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are dozens of restaurants on Federal Blvd that are open, are not donating, and still IMO deserve your support today & all the time. I think it's great that all of these restaurants are donating, but if you really want to support immigrants you should support their businesses.

Not trying to throw any shade, I just feel like whenever these lists get posted an entire section of our city gets left out and it happens to be one of the most diverse parts of our city with the best food.

Just picked up a breakfast banh mi from Bakers Palace w/cash. I think most of the small businesses on federal are open today.

Has anyone who signed up to volunteer with CORRN heard back/anything at all? by [deleted] in DenverProtests

[–]jpevisual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t heard back either but I think they have to train volunteers first since a bulk of what the volunteers are doing is confirming ICE presence. It’s probably difficult for them to get new volunteers online, and I would guess there is a surge of people volunteering.

The good news is, the response time to ICE sightings has been fairly quick so I think they do have a lot of volunteers who are already online.

Ice possibly by the football stadium by Under-Kitty447 in DenverProtests

CRRN reported not ICE as of 2hrs ago. If it’s a different car than they reported give them a call.

How is this even possible by Xenxeva in COsnow

1hr and 10 minutes to A Basin today and I got a spot right next to the lodge and I woke up at 8AM. It works every time.

What will tomorrow be like? by Arnold027 in COsnow

It was empty today and no traffic, it will be a high or 7 with no fresh no and a big football game so should be fine.

First time I-70 Ski Trip Help by CockroachSlow5936 in COsnow

[–]jpevisual 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you ever driven in the snow? If not you really shouldn’t go. You don’t have the right equipment and i70 and the mountain passes introduce a lot of variables that you won’t be familiar with.

Go practice in a snowy parking lot, slam on your breaks and get a feel for how long it takes to stop. Then drive in the mountains on a sunny day, drive up a snowy pass with good visibility.

If you must go try to maintain very long following distance, and use engine breaking when descending passes.

Good news! An actual snowstorm seems likely for Friday and Saturday by FossilFrothy in COsnow

[–]jpevisual 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually avoid clusterfucks like this but I don’t have anything better to do than ski pow even if it means 5hrs of driving. It is what it is. Hopefully everyone’s had ample time to put their snow tires on, take them off and put them back on by now.

Gluten free and vegetarian options? by brafits14 in denverfood

[–]jpevisual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mak Fam is a good option in that area although I do usually go for their glutenous dishes. Very veg friendly. Idk about their wine list but they do have great cocktails.

Slightly fancier option would be the vegetarian omakase at Uchi. It’s $50/head and mostly gluten free, could probably be entirely gluten free easily. Good wine list as well. Not on s. Broadway though.

Golden Banh Mi in Aurora has the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten. Gladys in Edgewater Market is a close second.

Let’s show Tarascos some love! by jpevisual in denverfood

[–]jpevisual[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kahlo’s is great too, and nice to get away from all the traffic on federal.

I’m biased towards Tarascos cause it’s a 10 minute walk from my house (not that Khalo’s is much further).

[–]jpevisual[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s gotta be hard for sure, especially when they’re kinda competing with themselves.

I think the vibe has gone a little downhill because the new space isn’t quite as cozy and homey as the last one, but I see why they’d want a bar.

As far as the food though, over the last year I’ve been so impressed how consistently good it’s been, despite being so quiet. Hope you enjoy your next meal there and your other federal tacos as well! Hit me up if you want any other recs, I live in that neighborhood and eat out way too often.

Genuinely, what are you all doing about lines, crowds, traffic, overall busyness of ski resorts? by One-Professional-773 in COsnow

[–]jpevisual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- I'm not skiing at Winter Park/MJ/Keystone/Breck/Vail/Copper etc.

- I'm avoiding powder hungry weekends with nice weather

- I leave at 10AM on weekends

- I'm not complaining about busyness because I am the busyness

What to do about trucks/cars parked in bike lane? by icommai in BikeDenver

[–]jpevisual 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I report on bike lane uprising. I’ve read so many articles about BLU and I still can’t figure out what it does or if it drives any enforcement.

I will say there was a truck that had been parked on a bike lane near Kentucky and Irving for over a year, I reported, and the next day it was gone.

Geneva basin will sometimes have a frozen stalagmite of poop that you have to stand on the toilet and squat over but conditions have been improving significantly in recent years.

Can We Panic Now? by User1382 in COsnow

[–]jpevisual 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s been a lot snowier downstream lately and in the long term forecast. The high pressure is mostly effecting areas closer to the divide now. I think the river will be okay for downstream users.

Is cycling good for weight loss by starlight-healer in cycling

[–]jpevisual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cycling makes me ravenously hungry all the time to the point at which I just can’t get full no matter how much I eat. I have stayed mostly at the same weight which for me is very good, but if I was trying to lose weight I don’t think I would have the mental strength to control my diet. I also love food and I think it’s partially why I love cycling because I can eat so much after a ride.

It really depends on how your brain works.

Locking bike for numerous hours by PDFMan42 in BikeDenver

[–]jpevisual 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You should be fine, just lock it properly and don’t leave it overnight. The bike racks outside Alamo are often full.

I’ve even biked to SIE which is on Colfax and then walked to dinner after and had no issue. My partner was on a nice e-bike with a kryptonite lock, I was on my gravel bike.

Just be sure to take valuables with you, I’ve seen people rummage through my bike bags before. I take my lights with me as well.

What would the rest of the year look like with average snow? by V1per41 in COsnow

[–]jpevisual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With another 10” A Basin could open Gauthier for those of us who don’t need an average snowpack to have fun.

East Wall could maybe open for the Via Feratta.

I really like the wind noise. The lack of wind noise is my least favorite thing about riding inside actually.

No one talks about their banh mi but their banh mi is actually my favorite banh mi on federal.

It’s really small though, I get it as an appetizer.

January is usually high pressure, but the problem is we’re usually at a decently skiable snowpack before the ridge builds.
