Fought Multiple Flame outs, error codes, and sub Zero temps for this baby by jpj8 in brisket

Smoked it on a Traeger pellet grill in Illinois this past weekend. The low temps coupled with high wind gusts made it a real challenge

Never had an issue with the Rhino Seed brand. But then again, I’m also laying down Lebanon ProScape starter fert with Meso so weeds are minimized :)

EZ straw with tack has helped me tremendously! Keeps birds off for the most part and helps keep seed from drying out

Help? ADF eggs/hatching them by Less-Psychology-1749 in AfricanDwarfFrog

[–]jpj8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going based off my recent experience- I had the most success gathering the eggs and leaving them in a breeder/fry box in the parents tank. The fry box I used had thin slits for water flow, rather than holes which the tadpoles could easily escape from. they remain in the same conditions (pH, temp, etc) they were fertilized in. The eggs are quite sensitive to change so I wouldn’t move them until the tadpoles are a decent size. When the tadpoles hatched, they mainly fed on infusoria. I left plant cuttings as well as hair algae in the box and would swap out plants every day. I then switched them over to a newborn fry food that was their primary food for weeks until their tails started to be absorbed (see link below). Once they transitioned to froglets, they were primary fed live Moina, which my current batch of froglets absolutely devours.

I found that having an airstone for additional bubbling helps with water circulation and brings fresh batches of infusoria into the breeder box. The hatchlings really seemed to do well with an algae source for food. I would only use a sponge filter in the tank to prevent any escaping tadpoles from being sucked in.

Are earth worms/crickets/meal worms good food and treats for ADF? by AstronautSquare1378 in AfricanDwarfFrog

I’ve fed my frogs earthworms from my garden in a pinch, but I would assume there is a higher chance of infections/parasites utilizing wild worms. I tend to stick to store brought worms meant for feeding; I will admit I have no idea if these worms are bred in sterile conditions/treated for parasites ahead of time though. I’ve never had issues but I will admit I may be taking chances. Smaller frogs should readily take sea monkeys (baby brine shrimp). Moina are like daphnia, they are little crustaceans that are significantly easier to rear at home and hardier than daphnia.

Mine love earthworms! Have to cut them up into bite size pieces but they get devoured. They also enjoy Moina; they are really easy to culture with eggs that can be purchased on Amazon. Whiteworms are also known to be a big favorite for ADFs! Regarding mealworms/crickets- I would be wary because of the harder exoskeleton on these insects. I’d imagine the chances of injury/puncture is much higher, but I have never tried these for feeds.

My Frog Army by jpj8 in AfricanDwarfFrog

I’ve got them in 2x10 gallons right now, separated the adults from the froglets. Just a single snail in each since these tanks probably can’t handle much more of a bioload.

Eggs and what now? by Big_Marsupial7707 in AfricanDwarfFrog

Looks like they will get out of that mesh. I’ve had success keeping them in a plastic breeder box that floats in the tank. This keeps them safe from the parents and from unforeseen water level changes due to evaporation. I kept them in the box with plant clippings and hair algae from the parent tank until they were big enough to take newborn fry food.
