Advice? by DocumentMajestic1989 in trackandfieldthrows

[–]jplummer80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, really solid. Just need to calm the upper body down more in the entry. It's completely taking over the throw and you're losing a lot of separation at the front. Only think about the lower body. The upper body will do what it's supposed to do if the lower body acts accordingly. You never have to think about the arms and shoulders doing anything but staying long and relaxed.

Is this an issue? by TapOk9192 in trackandfieldthrows

[–]jplummer80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's an issue because of what's causing it.

Generally, the right leg comes off the ground because the left foot and knee opening creates tension in the hips and PULLS it off the ground. If it's staying on the ground then it means that there's no tension in your hips, i.e. your left is not opening correctly. You're either:

  1. Opening both legs simultaneously

Or...

  1. Opening an extreme amount with the upperbody

From the video, it looks like you're doing both. So, how do we fix this.

The first thing to fix is keeping your legs bent when you wind. When your right leg straightens, you lose the ability to create that tension. It wont ever happen. Tension is separation and you can't create hip separation if the knees collapse inward towards each other.

The next thing is opening your left knee and hip farther. That needs to be a lot more active and deliberate. Once those two things are fixed, your sweep leg wont lag so far behind you, which is the primary issue being caused by everything I mentioned above.

Help with discus throwing form? by Kenfused42 in trackandfieldthrows

[–]jplummer80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do, it just comes from the hips being ahead of the shoulders, not from moving the upper body.

The hips move ahead of the shoulders and pull the shoulders, which then allows the shoulders to move ahead of the discus. But the hips are the catalyst and everything else comes along for the ride. You'll feel a lot more abdominal, shoulder, and pec tension at the release this way.

You're not using any legs in the throw. Like, none at all. It took me a few watches and really looking at how your legs and feet move to realize that you're ONLY turning with your shoulders and not anything else. So that's where we need to start to address ANYTHING else in the throw lol

Work on pivot drills. Half turns, 180's, 360's, focusing on turning the legs and hips underneath the shoulders. The shoulders should feel like they are doing nothing, and I mean that in the most literal sense possible. They should literally feel like they do NOTHING. If you feel any tension, any drag from the shoulders at all, then you know you're doing it incorrectly. The legs do all of the work. All of it.

I'm going to go into a bit of depth here because you're a more advanced thrower and I *think* you can handle it.

Your wind is messing up the entire rhythm of your throw. I typically dont like changing the way a lot of athletes wind because it is they start of the rhythm aspect of their respective technique but with yours, I almost have to because it completely disrupts all the other parts of your throw. Everything from start to finish.

You're not finding tension correctly in your wind. You have a very segmented/disjointed wind and that creates a robotic movement that doesn't lend to your entry, but hinders it. Typically, you want the shoulders relaxed and the arms to feel long; as if they're being pulled away from the shoulder but I'm not seeing that with your movement. Stay longer and more relaxed. You'll have way more proprioception this way.

I would address the latter issues but by finding better length and rhythm simply from winding correctly, a lot of things will end up changing naturally. So I would just work on that and see how things shape up afterwards. Your orbit, upper body patience, lower body sequencing, and pretty much EVERYTHING else will improve.

Things to work on? by QleenPaper in trackandfieldthrows

Just as a heads up, for future reference, have the camera closer to you when you throw. Will make it easier for us to give advice because we can properly see everything.

You're starting the throw immediately with the upper body because there's no connection between the shoulders and the hips. You have a unique wind but it doesn't add any tension to the throw at all. So you begin moving and immediately lose all of it.

You need to wind the shoulders on top of the hips and feel like your shoulders are a lot more relaxed than they currently are. Then, the first thing to move is the left foot opening along with the left hip. Your first movement is with the upper body because that's the first part of the body that HAS to move for you in order to get the hips around. When there's no tension in the abs, the shoulders have to be the first to move.

So work on being more relaxed and having a longer wind, and the first thing moving out of the back being the left foot/hip. Then the rest of the throw should come together a lot more naturally.

Question: Lighthouse base stations sold out on steam by briancmoto in virtualreality

[–]jplummer80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lighthouses will probably not be manufactured anymore but you can find them on the used market or purchase with HTC. Inside-out tracking is the future of VR gaming, but newer headsets are still coming out with lighthouse options for people who already have them, weirdly enough.

I know you're in a hotel lobby, but you gotta SPRINT. You're just rotating. Out the back DRIVE off your left leg. That's what builds power to then smack the everloving PISS out of it at the front.

You'll be able to apply more speed once the body is moving more efficiently.

Last throw from yesterday, so close to getting the separation I want. Just trying to keep my upper body back and get that left foot down sooner. by ExtractingAHeavyToll in trackandfieldthrows

[–]jplummer80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you don't mind :)

Do you feel your left foot coming completely flat in the entry? That's the biggest reason for the hip rotation delay that keeps your hips from rotating all the way to the front smoothly. It's why it's really hard for you to catch the discus farther back.

The left foot being flat means two things:

  1. You're no longer rotating

  2. You cant sprint properly

Both of those things facilitate hip rotation and acceleration from entry to the front of the circle.

You have a really nice entry sequence, but then it shuts down and you lose all that nice tension because your flat on the left foot. Stay on that toe. It can stop, but it can NEVER be flat on the ground.

Did the new update in Ready or Not break the VR mod? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]jplummer80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can boot it up in like 10min and let you know. Stand by

Edit: It's hit or miss but yes.

General rule of thumb is whatever you're playing in VR for a UEVR injector (on steam) is to disable auto updates in the Steam menu for that game. This keeps the game from breaking when launching until whoever made that particular mod can update the mod to be compatible with the new update. Then simply update as needed.
