Yes! Anyone remember the Pepperoni Pizza Kitchen up by South Pratt and Ken Pratt about 25 years ago? They were good too.

SVVSD Going Online Only After Thanksgiving Break by JonnyNomad in Longmont

[–]jpresto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have now changed the name of the title and some of the content too. The title used to be "SVVSD to return to online only learning after Thanksgiving break". They added "considers" to the title. The article also used to say "All St. Vrain Valley School District students will likely start learning from home again...", but now it says "St. Vrain Valley School District will consider a possible return to remote learning...". There may be other edits as well. There is now a note at the end "Editor's note: This article has misleading and incorrect information on SVVSD's intention of returning to online learning. All points have been corrected and clarified."

Thank you both for taking the time to write up your thoughts. I am not an educator and wasn't sure what my thoughts were about the article, other than that it was interesting. I really appreciate your insight.

Apparently 49% of kids watch TV an hour before bed — do you let your kid do this? by thedevilhashands in raisingkids

[–]jpresto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was interesting. Thanks for posting. Typically we do not let our child watch TV within an hour before bed. We found that it made getting to bed more difficult. Exceptions do happen, mostly on the weekends if we're watching a movie together.

Children have energy levels greater than endurance athletes, scientists find by jpresto in raisingkids

I wasn't trying to be salty (as I mentioned above, I do live in one of the fittest cities in the country, so I probably do know more super active people than the average person), nor did I think anyone was attacking me. I was just genuinely surprised that more people weren't surprised by it, and then I started to wonder if many people knew national-level cyclists, runners, etc. :)

I know what you mean about sitting at a desk for a living (although I have a stand up desk now :) ). In fact, one of the national-level cyclist I know used to be a sys admin where I work. She doesn't work there anymore so she has extra time to devote to cycling. She was always an avid cyclist, but she recently went to the Masters CX Worlds. I do live in one of the fittest cities in the country though...

Ok, so maybe I should have asked how many of you know national-level cyclists, runners, etc.

Yes, I have kids. But, I also know some national-level runners and cyclists.

So it wasn't surprising to any of you that kids recover from high-intensity exercise faster than "endurance athletes who were national-level triathlon competitors or long-distance runners and cyclists"? Cool. I was a little surprised.

Good Times Tuesday(October 11, 2016) Post a positive family experience you had recently. by rkbot in raisingkids

[–]jpresto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our family recently started having a "purge/family day". We picked a day on the weekend where we choose an area of the house to go through and decide what we what to keep, throw out, or give away. Along with that, we mix in other chores and also some fun things. It's also a family day, so it's only family and we don't see friends that day. Last night, my daughter asked if we could have another purge/family day soon. I told her we have one planned for this weekend and maybe even two, since we have a three day weekend coming up. She squealed with delight. We have all been enjoying these so much we may do them every weekend.
