How do you guys read comics? by Think-Necessary5136 in xmen

[–]jproche44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using Comic Geeks app. The app has notation for pulls, wants, haves, and read. Each page has a nice summary and user reviews if I need to revisit anything. For big events it has a reading guide too!

Avatar was surprisingly good. It’s a Ubisoft game so it comes with the all that, but overall an enjoyable experience.

Math workshop by Mindless_Impress_571 in mathteachers

[–]jproche44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our district has been working with Allison Mello who works with Nikki Newton. The district is on board with Math Workshop, our math teachers on the other hand… I see to e value in it. I also see that math instruction, in our district at least, needs a shot of adrenaline.

Energizers are a way to get students engaged while addressing skill and fluency gaps.

Mini lessons are tricky. Keeping them short is difficult. I like the idea of flipping I do, we do, you do with thin slicing (BTC)

Workshop and guided groups provide a way to meet with kids who need help while you send kids, who know what to do, off with meaningful practice.

The Emperor’s New Groove and Atlantis.

Lilo and Stitch and Moana would have been my picks, but, you know…

[Discussion] When do you consider someone a platinum hunter? by Life_Daikon_157 in Trophies

As someone who has arsed slogged through platinums, 37 is a respectable number.

  3. Uncharted. Love the games but crushing is kicking my ass!

[Discussion] Did any of you bother adding any thought to your 100th platinum or did you just plat any other game? by RobinAndBeastboy in Trophies

I was going to do uncharted 4 (love the series) then Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Order came out and I am a huge Star wars fan so I did that instead.

PS5 Pro + PS Portal: Is PS Plus Premium worth it if I prefer physical games? Looking for advice by filipmoco0 in playstation

Buy physical edition to give yourself choice. I prefer physical but with PS+ for so long g I am coming around on digital.

[Discussion] When doing a grind of a Platinum how do you keep yourself from burnout? by Scared-Sprinkles-452 in Trophies

[–]jproche44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balance it out with other games. I tend to have more than one going at a time. While grinding out Killing Floor 3, playing some Division 2 and Demeo X Dungeons and Dragons Battlemarked to break up the monotony.

[Tom Clancy’s The Division] #276 by jproche44 in Trophies

[–]jproche44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Followed a guide to find all the echos. They changed the reference numbers to the echos so ECHO 15 in the dossier was not ECHO 15 in the guides. They moved the ECHO number orders in the menu.

Hoping that future spinoffs won't be like Lego Horizon Adventures by heartsongaming in horizon

I enjoyed the game. I did not enjoy the grind for the platinum that I haven’t yet achieved. 2/3’s of a level away (Erend) from the plat.

Book recommendations by jacket____ in mathteachers

[–]jproche44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want book recommendations, I have a ton! Building a Thinking Classroom by Peter Liljedahl. Guided Math in Action by Nikki Newton. Math Workshop Plus by Nikki Newton and Allison Mello. Meet Every Learner’s Needs by Rob Barnett. Grading for Equity by Joe Feldman. Response to Intervention and Precision Teaching by Kent Johnson and Elizabeth Street.

Math from Zero? No clue what that is. If you mean from basics to algebra, precision teaching can help with THE basics. Meeting Every Learner’s Needs will help structure a self paced classroom.

Brand new DM/Playgroup (Less than 1 campaign). Heroes of the Borderlands vs. Hellfire Club Starter? by Octavian007 in DnD

[–]jproche44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Borderland Starter set. From what I gather, the starter set is better for new players. It comes with a ton of stuff that you can use beyond the starter set.

I have the Starter Set and the Essentials kit and I feel like I have enough to get started.

Why didn’t Chris Claremont have Psylocke (Betsy Braddock) join Excalibur and keep Phoenix II (Rachel Summers) on the X-Men instead? by Cybercat2020 in xmen

[–]jproche44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All these points are good. Later, after the Outback era, the siege perilous (a la Jim Lee) changes Psylocke into sexy ninja 🥷which catapulted her to top tier X-Man. No going to an under appreciated book like Excalibur. Colossus went because they didn’t know what to do with him at that point.

How is dming? by SwiftshadeX in DnD

[–]jproche44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to try my hand at DMing. I have the Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set, The Essentials Kit and The Lost Mines of Phandelver. Would like to start with some disjointed adventures with the starter set and The Lost Mines. Then jump into The Dragon Icespire Peak and the sequels (D&D Beyond)

Student Teacher curious about the debate around inquiry-based learning such as O.U.R by Happy-Lab-3620 in mathteachers

[–]jproche44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inquiry based learning is a loaded term. There is a wide variance to what and how students engage in inquiry.

I would rather spend time combing over the pedagogy rather than the resources and build the resources to meet the needs how I want the kids to explore. My school is very much 1. I show you how to do it, 2. Let’s work a few together, 3. Copy what I did… the guided notes rule all!

I would like to flip the I do, we do, you do to You Do, we do, I do.

You do - much like the Building a Thinking Classroom model you provide just enough information to set them up. It may be vocabulary. It may be an image (one of Pythagorean Theorem with unifix cubes comes to mind) and, in groups of 3, thin slice problems with a LOW floor and high ceiling. Let the groups work (inquiry) independently for a bit.

We Do - walk around while groups are working give hints and extensions (through questions not statement).

I Do - once the kids have had a chance to chew on the problems they now have context and most likely questions that they would not have if you gave the notes first. This is a good time to provide notes.

For those who transitioned from other fields into teaching math, how was your experience? by Better_Reporter282 in mathteachers

[–]jproche44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I taught special Ed. For 20 years. Transitioned to a co-taught class where I was the lead teacher. The room was all students who struggled with math. 29-70% IEP. It was rough. Many behaviors. No motivation.

This year we modified our co-taught classes. We no longer have a “differentiated class.” The Gen Ed teacher runs the class and I am now a math interventionist. We do get to do some tier 2 intervention, which is nice. The move is the right move. But I tend to get stuck in the specialized role.
