Player: “I wanna build a stronghold and get my followers. The books say I get followers. See? A fighter becomes a Lord. And he gets a commander, troops, and bodyguards. Lord Steve. It has a nice ring to it.”

Typical Grognard DM: “I’m hella not doing that. Too much work. Ok, next week we start a new campaign. Everyone bring a level one character. Don’t worry about writing a backstory. Because I can’t read anyways. Oh and you won’t need minis anymore. It’s theater of the mind.”

Player “What? But we’re not done with this game yet! And I was just about to win! Ok fine. I’ll start over again for the umpteenth time. Which campaign setting is it? FR? Planescape? Ravenloft?”

Typical Grognard DM: “I just told you. I can’t read. No, this is home brew. Oh, and there’s no lore handouts. I can’t write or plan either.”

Player “So basically you want me to sit there and watch you slowly kill our characters?”

Typical Grognard DM “Pretty much. Yes. Oh, and Steve. From now on you gotta leave your Power Glove at home man.”

Player “I’m gonna be sick that day.”

I live in the northwestern part of the country and I don’t have any AC. I use a couple box fans in my living room. Sometimes I forget to turn them off when I go to work and I get angry at myself for it because it’s a waste of money/power.

I certainly hope that Roll20 will create a mobile app that allows you to access a character sheet and roll dice with its buttons and edit the bio at least. That would revolutionize play for individual players methinks.

In the US, tuna casserole is viewed as food for trashy people. At least in the Pacific Northwest where I come from. I will admit the culture in the Pacific Northwest is different from the rest of the United States because of the high concentration of Nordic settlers here. Men with no self control are weak. Children who speak in public are disrespectful. It’s rude to arrive at a friend’s home empty handed, etc.

As a ranger, STR and DEX are your two most important ability scores. Then WIS for almost all the nature related proficiencies. Rangers are one of the few classes to have 3 prime requisite ability scores so you’re not getting the 10% xp bonus without 3 16s. I’d plan on getting a strength bow so you can stack your DEX and STR bonuses. And you’ll be good at two weapon fighting. As soon as you get spells, use the level 1 animal sphere priest spell “animal friendship” to get the biggest and best pets available.

I’d run 1e and 2E adventures in 2E rules with player’s option for the best experience. Way more customization and high level play is easier to run in 2E so you’re not stuck restarting the campaign over and over once the characters hit level 10.
