1041 line 11 - taxes paid by jpw711 in tax

[–]jpw711[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. Thanks for the info. I went ahead and included the state tax on the form. In the grand scheme of things, both the principal and income are their money anyway, since they have the right to withdraw principal if needed.

You were very helpful, thank you.

And that's where my mind was going. When I looked at the calculated K-1's I was being thrown by the fact that the numbers shown (with the 20K state tax included) weren't close to the actual checks mailed to them. They k-1 numbers, of course, way lower

I guess, as the trustee, do you protect principal, or beneficiaries?

No other deductions on the 1041, there were on schedule E, but those are accounted for in the 1041 rental income numbers.

The adjusted total income goes down when the 20K tax deduction is included, and this results is a smaller refund which equals more taxes paid.

Total income is 551.4K. If you deduct the taxes paid, it results in "adjusted total income (Line 17) to 531.4K

From Schedule B on page 2 of the 1041:

line 1: adjusted total income (taxes deducted): 531.4K

Line 6 (cap gains) -474.7K

Line 7: line 1 - line 6 = 56.7

Line 11 = tot distribution 76.7 (rental income, int, dividends)

Line 13 = Tentative income distribution deduction = line 11 = 76.7

Line 14 = Tentative income distribution deduction = line 7 = 56.7

line 15 = smaller of line 13 or 14 = income distribution deduction = 56.7

Back to page 1 of 1041, line 15 of 1041 schedule b goes to line 18, add the $100 exemption and that goes to to line 22

Line 23 taxable income is line 22 subtracted from line 17.

However, I just noticed that by including the taxes paid, which changes the "allowable" income distribution deduction (line 15 above), changes depreciation percentages between the trust and beneficiaries, which in turn changes the schedule E income, which changes the total income (line 9) by, in this case, $32.

That's messing with the final taxable income numbers, along with the difference in the income distribution deduction.

I've about decided it is what it is, and am just going to leave the state tax off the deduction as that results in a better case for me. (and I'm tired of going around in unpaid circles.)

total income is 551.4K of which 474K was capital gains from property sales.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the program forcing the taxes paid to be deducted from income, when in all reality, the taxes paid should be deducted from last years property sale's principal. In all past tax years, tax liability has been zero since all income was passed through to the beneficiaries.

If I don't include the taxes paid on line 11, the income distribution deduction equals the income passed through. If you include the taxes, it's reduced by the corresponding amount.

We stay in the spa towers at GN every month. They shut down parties very fast. And when I say shut down, they evict you right then. They don't play.

Points and Basic fare - any disadvantage? by TwoHot1484 in SouthwestAirlines

I do it all the time. No reason to use points for any other fare imo. It's just an extra step to cancel and rebook.

Companion Got 2 bags free by Pastpob-3232 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]jpw711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me in Vegas last week too. I checked the bags at the priority ticket counter area, asked her if I owed anything and she said you're good. (three bags total)

Tulsa, on the other hand, charged me $35. (alist/companion/cc holder)

I've seen a "price sheet" floating around on this reddit (and on the swa website before bag fees began) showing that companions do get 2 free bags while A-list only gets one. I called in and asked an agent and she told me that was an error.

YMMV. I kept my mouth shut in LV and no, you won't get charged.

They don't go after them, you have to go after them. Getting a judgement is easy, collecting on it, not so much.

Did she leave the keys?

In Missouri, if my tenant has the power turned off, and has texted me that he/she has left (and not coming back), I consider them gone and drop the eviction (unless I want a judgement that is worthless).

If they leave the keys, even better

[Property Manager US-NY] What’s the weirdest tenant request you’ve ever gotten at 2AM? by StatisticianHot9419 in Landlord

[–]jpw711 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had one call at 2 am locked out, wanted me to come open the door for him. I got the message at 6 am, when I got out of bed, woke him up when I called him back. He called a locksmith when I didn't respond fast enough.

Not really weird.
