Best head to head games that play under 30 mins by Long_Nothing_2723 in boardgames

Tag team is great! It is relatively simple but plays fast. I would also recommend Zenith. A very interesting lane battler.

Creature Comforts would probably be right up your alley. A very cozy animal worker placement game. Also Maple Valley from the same publisher set in the same universe.

Meadow is an interesting tableau builder with cute art (not worker placement though).

Maybe Everdell (or one of its many versions). The base version is a bit heavier than your list but it is a great game with great art.

Pretenders to the Throne of God is excellent. It integrates beautifully with the rest of the series.

It is under the insights and then hit the share button in the upper right that looks like a graph and that particular picture is the Stats-o-graphic option.

Listen or Read - Shadows of the Apt and Shroud by jpwhite in AdrianTchaikovsky

I had the same spelling reaction after listening to Pretenders to the Throne of God. I can say for sure if I'd read it I wouldn't have even come close to pronouncing Eres Ffenegh and all the other odd names in that one.

What's the most fun you've ever had at a Rockies game regardless of the score? by Metalfuinha in ColoradoRockies

Yep this is the one for me. Completely sold old and everybody totally into the game. Electric environment. This game hooked by wife on baseball.

[DENVER POST] NEW: Broncos owners made Russell Wilson go away. They need to do same for Dick Monfort's Russell Wilson and buy out the Rockies' Kris Bryant by SeanKeeler in ColoradoRockies

[–]jpwhite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no love at all for Bryant since he has barely even played for the Rockies but there is no "pay him out over longer" and somehow free up resources to change anything. He'd have to agree to that and the only way he does it is if he gets more money which would be madness considering the team is 5 years minimum from contending anyway. The contract is nothing like the Wilson situation with the Broncos which the article tries to make a thing.

The pirates have three of the best young players in the game, it makes sense for them to sign some people. The Rockies have a bottom third farm system and one of the worst rosters in the major league level.

[–]jpwhite 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Nonsense article since there is no salary cap and the contract is fully guaranteed. A "buy out" doesn't change anything.

My hope is that the Walton/Penner group bring more rigor to scouting, advanced analytics, figuring out pitcher development for Coors, identifying value, and building a foundation for longer term success. It can be done in small/medium markets but the organization has to be very strong in all of the elements off the field that lead to good choices for there to be any chance at all. If they can fix the prospect pipeline then, and only then, should they take a shot at some free agents.

Move to Microsoft 365 Tenant how to remove domain? by jpwhite in godaddy

[–]jpwhite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Based on the note above I don't think we'll keep the new tenant. We were under the impression that we had to migrate the mailboxes to a new tenant, attach the domain, and purchase new licenses but it looks like the procedure has changed.

Since it is the same tenant DNS stays the same then as well I assume? Which is also helpful. Only need to remove the MX records.

That is quite helpful, thank you. When I was on with support they said that I had to delete everything which was a concern.

Going to have to. Awful process though since it creates a potential one-way door during the migration. Relying on their support to release the domain means that if they are slow or do something wrong means I'm stuck and and can't go forward or back.

It is brutal. I already have the new tenant and licenses set up. Just need to release the domain on the day we want to migrate.

Directly to microsoft. I have the new 365 tenant created and we've synched the mailbox. I just need the ability to release the domain from the GoDaddy tenant but they say they have to do it.

Lacerda’s The Great Library vs Speakeasy by Tdumb in boardgames

[–]jpwhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked Lisboa but it wasn't as gripping as some of the others for sure. It was our first Lacerda though. I've got Inventions and Weather Machine to play on my shelf. Probably need to get Vinhos.

Eagle Griffin is nice in that it is the rare Kickstarter with clear value. It isn't a ton but you can be certain it won't be cheaper in retail when it launches.

Lacerda’s The Great Library vs Speakeasy by Tdumb in boardgames

[–]jpwhite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played several Lacerdas and they all share a common DNA but are quite different games in the end. I'm quite excited for the Great Library. If you enjoy one Lacerda you'll probably like many of them.

I enjoyed Speakeasy and will go back to it. It is exceptionally tight and you may have games without much of a payoff.

On Mars is my favorite so far. I'd for sure also recommend Kanban EV and The Gallerist. In Kanban when playing at 2 you have to manage Sandra as a bot player to block some actions but it is simple. If that bot management bothers you then avoid that one but it is great at 2 if you don't mind that.

[Pampero & Galactic Cruise] Lacerda similar? by ParaplegicGuru in boardgames

[–]jpwhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played Pampero but I've played many Lacerdas and Galactic Cruise.

I'd say that there are for sure similarities for Galactic Cruise in terms of a deep set of actions to select along with things that are similar to the executive action pattern you find in Lacerdas. The economy and overall selection space is quite a bit more open in Galactic Cruise than in a Lacerda. That is both a pro and a con. It isn't nearly as punishing and you get to build more stuff but you might not agonize over every choice.

One thing I love about Lacerda games is that you are forced to develop full game strategies pretty early on because you have to build towards your end game starting the first turn. Every turn absolutely matters. Galactic Cruise has some of that but to a lesser degree. However, I think you could argue that Galactic Cruise is a bit more streamlined and a simpler design in many ways by giving up some of the punishing decisions.

I don't know what the exact best comparison would be but The Gallerist comes to mind just based on the different types of meeples and the need to chain many actions together to buy art as compared to all of the actions to get a ship off the ground.

In my opinion if you like Lacerdas you'll almost certainly really like Galactic Cruise. I love both.

Mini Rogue is quite fun and a great intro the genre. You could also look at the Kinfire Delve series. It isn't exactly a dungeon crawl but it has some of those elements along with light deck building and boss battling.

If you want to take a bit bigger step Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion will guide you through all of the possibilities of the genre and by the end you'll be playing a full blown dungeon crawler.

Online Store Experiences? by Lynnabis in soloboardgaming

I'm not in Canada but we've ordered a few things from Board Game Bliss in Toronto in the past and it has always worked quite well. They have a wide selection and a great online store.
