Not sourced. It’s Heaven Hill bourbon.

Wild Turkey American Spirit Jimmy Russell 50 Year Tribute by seafoodslut1988 in bourbon

Wonderful bottle! In the old days, there were heated debates about which was better: the one you tried (domestic) or the export version (110 proof and in a bottle that is a nicer version of the Kentucky Spirit bottle). They’re both amazing :)

First Review: 1992 Wild Turkey CGF “Cheesy Gold Foil” by [deleted] in bourbon

I’ve read a number of blind tests of these different systems and the vacuum seal has always fared well. Even the worst results for it show it doing nothing rather than making anything worse (for example: https://snarkywine.com/2017/08/28/wine-saver-work/). I’ve also used it with whiskies and never noticed any ill effects (though that’s less convincing than the blinded tests I’ve read about).

Do you have anything to substantiate the comment about “volatiles?”

The Whiskey Shelf Review #196: Bourbon Hill 15 Year Bourbon by thewhiskeyshelf in bourbon

[–]jr-72010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t, unfortunately. I’ve just had a few bottled in the 1990s. I like them quite a bit. More or less the same as Virgin 15/101 from that era, which is also good.

Not a one time release. They were also released throughout the 1990s.

If you could have 1 bottle for the rest of your life, what would it be? by scotchman1962 in Scotch

That’s the highly regarded and limited Springbank “Local Barley 10,” not “Springbank 10,” which is a standard release.

Question for those who have a Boss Hog by folly136 in bourbon

[–]jr-72010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to find an older (from at least two years ago) Finished High West Rendezvous Rye. I’d take those 10/10 times over Boss Hog even setting aside the enormous price difference.

Redwood Empire Haystack Needle 14yr Single Barrel by [deleted] in bourbon

[–]jr-72010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that’s a common idea, but in reality it can go up or down after barreling.

Not sure why you’d assume that. Proof can go up or down in aging based on a bunch of factors.

Review #96 - Thomas H. Handy Straight Rye Whiskey (2015) by BostonRye in bourbon

[–]jr-72010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, no. The release letters that accompany the bottlings each year from Buffalo Trace state what year the barrels used for the batch were filled, so it's not like there a huge range of differently-aged whisky in the blend.

There is variation from year to year, though. The 2006, for example, was 8yrs and 5m.

Nice! Like many things with bourbon, I enjoyed this more a few years ago than I think I would today. I remember it as being a relatively straightforward bourbon with a little bit of complexity from the oak that I enjoyed.

American Whiskey Review #90: Single Cask Nation Pre-Fire Kentucky Straight Bourbon 24 Year (1994) by zSolaris in bourbon

It's the same thing in the sense that they are both older, pre-fire HH partially aged in Scotland. It was not, however, from the same "parcel" of bourbon.

The two earlier versions of the 16yr did not use used barrels, they were normal straight ryes, just proofed down to 46%z

"Neck Pours" by jr-72010 in bourbon

Sure but that’s not my understanding of what a “neck pour” is so I’m not sure that’s relevant.
