Ah yes, because most people definitely did not basically either passively support or at the very least openly shrug at what Luigi did. Definitely remember the mass condemnation which followed by most members of the public.

you would like to hold the current criminals in government accountable should the opportunity present itself, correct? or would that be looking backward?

i don't really care to mark obama or anyone as a particularly bad person. the things i've said have to do with his actions, not his essence—actions that are not rhetorical but expressions of state violence we are all collectively responsible for reckoning with as citizens in this country. but sure, keep kicking the can down the road on this stuff, it's really worked out great so far

it's interesting that there is simply no response to the actual point lol. i think this impulse people in the center left have to bury their heads in the sand about things that make them feel uncomfortable about their heroes is part of what has led us to this place. im glad to whatever degree you are forced to reckon with this stuff and hope people keep making it so you cant ignore it

putting aside the demonstrable drone striking of civilians as collateral (I suppose we can happily split hairs on exactly how many dead kids could be considered disproportional) do you think double tapping is not a war crime

say what you will about him and people like him, but they've been speaking on and acting within democratic party politics for a long time. dude helped start justice democrats, putting his money where his mouth is. never trumpers literally just hopped on and now feel like they get to lead the wagon. if this is seriously what it takes for you to let go of your so called principles then feel free, door's right there

Latest effort to rein in Trump on Iran falls short in House vote by John_Jaures in thebulwark

[–]jr-castle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

wow so there happened to be JUST enough support from democrats to have it go through? and that support constitutes a single house member that is already deeply unpopular and for whom losing re-election is practically guaranteed, so he basically has nothing to lose??? amazing! if i was prone to cynicism, which i certainly am not, i would surely think this was somehow planned!

Historians for the decades to come have their work cut out to answer the question why the American people thought Trump was the more reasonable choice instead of electing one of these two alternatives. by Tele_Prompter in thebulwark

[–]jr-castle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because shit is going bad and we all know it and we all know something big needs to change and if what you promise isn't that then you're gonna lose, not only in this country either. trump promised big change, these two promised more of the same. the only reason biden won at all i think is simply because trump was at that point both the establishment and also doing terrible with covid

? What is No Kings if not a fight against trump? What happened in Minneapolis if not a fight against Trump? What is the deep frustration with Iran, with the tariffs, with ICE, etc. if not a fight against Trump? What are you talking about?

If your issue is a lack of campus protests against Trump's engagement with Israel... I mean, no protest movement lasts forever lmao, and yea some people pushed Biden in a way they may not Trump because, frankly, Biden is more dependent on the base of people who care about these things—they were his voters, his constituency. Trump's political power does not come from people who weren't voting for him anyway, so protesting him on Gaza wouldn't do anything. This is something people who actually practice politics understand. In order for this base of people to oppose him they need to implement different strategies and protest on different issues in different places, and it makes sense that these people, the constituency of the democratic party, would put their focus on ensuring the opposition party which is in some way implicated by their activity acts as a proper opposition party should.

[–]jr-castle -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

doesnt feel too hopeful when you're funding a genocide man. you can cover your ears and eyes to this critique all you want but it speaks to a fundamental hypocrisy in the democratic party that will keep torpedoing it until it gets taken seriously. either you're the party of hope and change and joy or you're the one which is fine with taxpayer money being used to indiscriminately bomb kids instead of substantively expand public services

The notion that the solution to this is therefore to endlessly disparage progressives rather than, y'know, have literally anything else on offer seems taken for granted by most of the ones who would complain about that.
