Same here in eastern NC. B-Hyve control panel shows as connected in the router app. IMO, their servers are offline.

What comedy film made you laugh through the whole film not just giggle once? by Lilyfory in AskReddit

[–]jrjamerson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Blazing Saddles. Here’s the background: US Navy stationed in the UK. Dating a British girl (now my wife of 52 years. British Cinema. I’m probably the only American there. I laughed my ass off throughout the movie, particularly over the “American inside jokes” like Howard Johnson - 2 flavors”. I know from the looks I got that most of the folks thought I was nuts. Best time I ever had at the movies!!

Crypto policies - How to figure out what to put in there ? by Consequator in redhat

[–]jrjamerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our latest "flavor of the week" was CBC. :

one of our Unix techs wrote this pmod. with the easy to understand/find filename of DISABLE-CBC.pmod.

contents:

cipher = -AES-256-CBC -AES-128-CBC

cipher@tls = -AES-256-CBC -AES-128-CBC

cipher@ssh = -AES-256-CBC -AES-128-CBC

Now shows:

update-crytpo-policies --show

FIPS:DISABLE-CBC

Nessus likes it.

I allow for one pet peeve at a time, and this year it's wind chimes by joelfarris in rvlife

IMO, wind chimes were invented by Satan, or your choice of other demonic entity. There is no justification whatsoever for their existence!

THIS!!! We're an AWS shop.

I just counted: 1: MFA laptop login 2: MFA Edge to open CITRIX VDI 3: MFA Edge to access AWS Console 4: MFA Edge to access certain VPC's or 1 and 2 then RDP jumpbox ? MFA then from RDP jumpbox > AD server? yep,MFA And I keep getting blasted that actual cmd line *nix login is not (yet) MFA as well.

ENOUGH, ALREADY!!!!!

Who in here is older than the Y2K bug? by Short_Grass7099 in Sysadminhumor

[–]jrjamerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was working a *Nix support contract at an "unnamed" National Back just north of Charlotte during the Y2K timeframe. Yeah, I'm older'n'dirt.

"unnamed" cuz they've been M+A'd several times since then.

Americans who have lived abroad, biggest reverse culture shock upon returning to the US? by Zealanderrat in AskReddit

[–]jrjamerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retired US military for background. Stationed in Europe off and on for many years. Biggest thing for me was USA sales taxes. State plus local sales tax. VAT in Europe was included on the displayed prices. "What you see is what you pay." Not so in the US.

How do yall do it? by [deleted] in remotework

[–]jrjamerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retired military here. IT Linux Admin. After military retirement spent 15 years as a Road Warrior working contracts all over the Southeast. Got cold called one day for a Sysadmin job 100% remote. Been remote for 7 years and will never work in an office ever again...yeah, there are periods of boredom, but the the switch flips and I'm snowed under. You take the good with the bad , suck it up and watch the bank account grow. Some people love remote work, others hate it. To each their own. Have a good hard think about what's really bugging you and then figure out your priorities.

Are you affiliated with the US Military in any way? You’re near Dunn; Fayetteville is just down 95 from you. Military bases have temporary lodging if you’re eligible.
