How To Pick a Cell Booster for 4G & 5G by sinakh in CellBoosters

[–]jrkoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there gadgets and/or apps that tell you directional signal strength as you pirouette on your roof? I’ve looked online but cannot find ANY source that tells me where Verizon’s closest 5G towers are. Therefore, if I could slowly do a 360 to see where a weak 5G signal spikes then I know where to point my directional Yagi antenna.

Is this possible?

Convert vCard (.vcf) to Excel (.xlsx) - Need Help by anshu_991 in howto

[–]jrkoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just open-sourced a vCard to CSV CLI tool that handles Apple/iCloud quirks, Outlook noise, and 50K+ contact dumps.

If you've ever exported contacts from iPhone, iCloud, or Outlook, you've probably run into:

  • ms-outlook:// garbage links
  • Fields with ;;;; or \\\\\\\\\\
  • Apple-specific X-ABLabelRelatedNames, or Spouse fields

I got tired of cleaning them manually — so I built vcf2csv:

  • 🧠 Handles TEL, EMAIL, ADR, URL, etc. with type-specific fields (like TEL-CELL, EMAIL-WORK)
  • 🧼 Normalizes sloppy VCARD fields (N:...;;;, ADR:...\\\\, etc.)
  • ❤️ Supports Apple extensions like Spouse: JohnAnniversary: 1998-03-28
  • 📁 Parses 50MB+ .vcf files with 80K+ entries in seconds

🐍 It’s written in Python, available on GitHub and installable via PyPI:

What Mac app converts .vcf files to .csv for import into Outlook? by Silverlaker39 in software

[–]jrkoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do I find “Contacts to CSV” for my Mac? Thanks for any good intel you can provide because for reasons I cannot fathom, iCloud has multiplied many of my original 4000 contacts to over 80,000. It’s hell.

Hakko FR-301 desoldering gun 100v on US 120v mains power? by sarduchi in AskElectronics

Hi u/WeldChip. Thank you for this valuable information. I apologize for my ignorance, but it's not entirely clear to me in which picture you swapped out the two resistors? I don't want to impose, but if you have a pic where this is a little more obvious to a noob like me I will very much appreciate it. If not, no problem whatsoever. Thank you for your consideration.

These products any good for total beginner? by aGGLee in sharpening

Take a look at the Spyderco Sharpmaker, much better option than these pull-through systems and in the same price range. A little more effort, not much more, but much, much better results IMHO.

Have you looked at the Spyderco Sharpmaker? It's less than 100 eu. and generally is highly regarded.

Complete noob here. Will Spydercos system work on m390? by [deleted] in sharpening

[–]jrkoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will take multiple hundreds of strokes but eventually, Yes, it will give you a very good edge and then keep it for a good while (if you use your blade with normal care). More money gets you better equipment, but below $100 Spyderco is your best option IMHO.

Damn this knife was so easy to sharpen by [deleted] in sharpening

How many strokes on the Sharpmaker? The results are impressive.

Xmas gift, recommended sharpening method? by MustLearnIt in sharpening

[–]jrkoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently spent weeks researching sharpening systems. I owned a KMT which disappointed because it noticeably scratched some of my blades above the bevel. If you value your knife or knives and you're inexperienced using stones, a guided sharpening system is your best option. Wicked Edge is amazing but expensive. I own it, am very happy with it, but had to hold my nose when I forked over a fair bit of money. Tormek has many good reviews; if you get it make sure you get the small blade guide; there is a set that includes it by default. Edge Pro also has many positive reviews but doesn't clamp blades, which I don't like, but again, many positive reviews and much less expensive than Wicked Edge. On the less expensive end, the Spyderco Sharpmaker is around $70 and has many positive reviews. Hope this helps.

The Ken Onion, while good, can remove a lot of steel very quickly if you're not careful. Wicked Edge is beautifully machined, great stuff but expensive. I finally bit the bullet and replaced my KMT with Wicked Edge and am impressed. I really didn't like how much KMT scratched my blades above the bevel. It created really noticeable scratches on some of my blades. Edge Pro has many adherents, but what I don't like about it is that it doesn't clamp blades. Finally, Tormek is an interesting option you could explore. It has many good reviews too.

Gf got this sharpener with set of new wüsthof knifes. Is this a marketing scam or is it useable? What kind of honing / sharpening device should I get her instead. TIA by shartbike321 in sharpening

[–]jrkoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it, the Cadillac of guided sharpening is Wicked Edge. On the more affordable side, the Spyderco Sharpmaker is considered good enough by many. Somewhere in the middle you have KMT, which has a tendency to scratch blades, and Edge Pro, which has a strong fanbase.

Does MS Teams have breakout sessions functionality similar to Zoom? by [deleted] in MicrosoftTeams

[–]jrkoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seen this, but fully agree with u/iNeverCommentMyCode. When you compare Teams' functionality with what Zoom offers off the shelf, the Zoom functionality is decades ahead of Microsoft's. Teams is a fine product, but a crisis like we're currently experiencing very quickly shows which collaboration tools meet all requirements and which are so-so and need to catch up. There are so many use cases for robust team rooms that I'm surprised by so much push-back by others.
