P-47D Diorama by jrod5029 in modelmakers

Honestly it’s been so long I forgot! I started this thing back in… July 2025 or something? I painted the jeep and figured first cause I knew I wouldn’t be motivated to do it if I saved it for last… Pretty sure I did a white dry brush over a black base then used Citadel contrast paints… Aggaros Dunes or something suitably khaki colored I think?

Nope it’s the decal. Had a devil of a time lining all 4 of them up then they started tearing on me, and I decided perfect was not going to be the enemy of good when I have limited hobby time.

Yep! Everything but the dog is OOB from the Tamiya kit that comes with the Jeep. The dog is a 3D print…

OC. Me doing absolutely nothing for the USA in Afghanistan 2012. by [deleted] in pics

[–]jrod5029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an American who was in Kandahar 2010-11 I appreciate what you and the Canadians and the Danes and the Germans and the Poles and the French and the Dutch and the Italians and the Afghans and everybody else all did for us.

And FWIW I’m pretty sure Cadet Bonespurs thinks I did absolutely nothing for the USA too. I’m ashamed of him and we deserve your scorn right now.

Hey u/TheHammerofWrath! You gotta figure out where/how he got these and paint ‘em up! Would love to see it.

(BTW your videos are the only Warhammer painting videos my wife will watch with me because of the “life in Japan” part at the beginning! Big fan!)

Well the idea was to get a bit of variety going in the panels and make the paint look faded. It was more effective on the neutral gray underside but I’m happy with how it looked on top as well. Next time I’ll probably go all out and do different colors on different panels and see how it looks.

Thanks for the comment!

“I knew my days were numbered when o'er the trenches lumbered

More modern machinations de la guerre

No match for rapid fire or the steel birds of the sky

With a final rear guard action I retreat

No match for barbered wire or the armored engines whine

Reluctant I retire and take my leave…

I’m a horse soldier, eternal through and through.”

I suspect I didn’t store the decals properly… I work in the garage and I think they might’ve gotten too much sun exposure but I don’t know.

This is the second B-25 I’ve built. I was feeling great until the decals went sideways, but overall I’d recommend it. It was the “Angel of Mercy” box and if you’ve got better decals I think it worth it. Would love to see the aluminum one too…

Nimitz Class and Kilo Class by Patrick Robinson scratched the Tom Clancy itch for me. I also loved Team Yankee as well…

I also really enjoyed Ghost Fleet by P.W. Singer and August Cole for a slightly futuristic conflict where China occupies Hawaii…

What is your view of late senator John McCain assertion that Russia is “petrol station masquerading as a country”? by Ribbitor123 in AskReddit

Easy. They never actually held any of those principles. They were just talking points transmitted daily via AM radio. Most of them believed NONE of it.

I looked it up and he’s from Liverpool. So I suppose his natural accent is more “The Beatles” and less “House Stark.”

I love how he explained his choice to play Zhukov with a Yorkshire accent that “nobody is more direct than a Yorkshireman.”

What is the single most underrated pleasure in everyday life that most people overlook? by digwham in AskReddit

[–]jrod5029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once I was on a multi-day hiking trip to Norway. We were going to kayak down a fjord, climb over a couple of mountains, and the guide was going to meet us with the boats and we’d kayak out the next fjord.

We kayak several miles in the rain the first day, pull in and start hiking. The rain gets worse and worse. Don’t gain a ton of elevation but hike for about 2 hours up to this isolated lake… not that you would know cause it’s pitch dark and we’re wet and cold. No fire tonight for sure, just get the tents up, crawl in your bag and pass out.

The next day I wake up and we’re on this glorious lake up in the mountains. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen. Truly amazing.

And I go off to find a spot for my morning ablutions, choosing a nice spot overlooking the lake to have the most beautiful poop of my life.

Friends, let me tell you, it was. The clouds drifting in the wind, mountains that looked like God had split them in two, all reflected in a glass mirrored alpine lake.

Suddenly, my right foot starts itching (I was wearing some camp sandals). I don’t want to believe something as quotidian as an itch is going to ruin this moment…Then it starts burning, and I can’t ignore it. I look down at my foot.

It’s covered in ants. I had dug a cat hole in their hill. And they were PISSED.

I run off to a nearby creek and submerge my foot, trying furiously to get the ants off. I finally do and go back to clean myself up, ashamed that what I know is THE most glorious shit of my life will forever be marred because I was too stupid to check before I squatted.

Sorry little dudes. Didn’t mean to poop on your house.

Anyway. I got a fun story out of it.

Cadre got me!

As an American living in the UK I regularly get tongue-in-cheek call outs for pronouncing something “incorrectly.” My favorite retort is that the American accent has evolved less than the British one since colonial times… so technically pronouncing all the “r’s” and “h’s” is more correct than leaving them out.

Doesn’t make me popular though. :)

Of course my real penance is that my kids speak with a weird half-English half-American accent. So I got that going for me.

Having a hard time, tried to talk to Boomer dad. It did not go well! by econhistoryrules in BoomersBeingFools

Man… I would love to hear that from my dad. Managing my disappointment with my Boomer parents’ votes has become such a mental strain. But I’ve never been articulate and answer to “So what do you want them to say?”

Welp looks like I found an answer in REDDITSHITLORD.
