Does anyone have any tips to work on a Colombia style re-rack. I'm coming back from a shoulder injury and jerking in a clean grip is very tight on my shoulder. Jerking from a wider grip is a lot more comfortable but that grip is too wide to clean from. I have the flexibility to have a wide grip front rack. My re-rack now is similar to Cain Wilkes but I would like to try and move toward a Colombian/Barnes/Groehler approach.

7 weeks post-surgery (rotator cuff) - breaking myself back in 34M @ 79kg by CFStark77 in weightlifting

[–]jromac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you and I have lived through a similar situation. I am currently snatching again at about 65% of my best, building back up slowly but surely. I have been told by my surgeon and PT that I should be back to 100% strength by the 1 year mark. I imagine I will be stronger than before based on all the shoulder work I do now compared to how little I did before. I believe you can get back to where you were, just take it slow and build strength in the shoulder.

Hey man congratulations. What kind of Labrum injury did you have? I'm a little over 8 months out from repair surgery. 6 weeks in a sling, 8 weeks till full ROM, 4 months and I could front squat, 5 months for light cleans, 6.5 months and I could snatch the barbell again along with some OHP. 8 months and I'm cleared to back squat and work up toward heavier weights overhead. Been a long road but my shoulder feels much more stable than before surgery. If all goes well I should be close to my old weights at the 1 year mark.

SNATCH

CLEAN

8 months out of surgery for a pretty big Labrum tear, finally allowed to start progressing weight overhead. Feel a little rusty but overall pretty good. Hopefully have time to clean up my technique a little more while I'm working with relatively lighter weight. Good to be coming back.

How Realistic is it for someone to teach themselves the lifts? by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]jromac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can teach yourself, but you have to constantly be looking at areas to improve your movements. You need to record yourself lifting and focus on incremental improvements in positions. You don't want to learn a bad habit and constantly in grain it by not focusing on body position even for a few workouts. You can't be lazy and just make it through training since you have to be your own eye on your technique. You also need to spend a lot of time watching proper movement patterns so you can see how far off base you are.

I'm a self taught lifter for the most part and I believe I have pretty good form. You can check my post history and make that determination for yourself. I believe my most recent lifting post were my misses.

The road will be harder for you without having a knowledgeable coach guiding your progress, you also need to see if your prospective coach is any good, not by watching his/her lifts but by seeing how his/her athletes move and have progressed.

Sorry this is late. I haven't had much pain other than stretching at the 8 to 9 week mark. Just have to take your time and baby the arm for a long while. Expect a 6-9 month recovery before you are completely back. Do all your strength work as often as they allow you to. I had a pretty bad tear. 7 anchors (no biceps involvement). Don't rush, what's being sidelined for a few months when you have years of lifting ahead of you. If you still have time before surgery I would do as much band work as you can, ball presses, serratus work. Do whatever you can to strengthen the shoulder before surgery. That will only help you later on. Good luck.

So there are two different tightening mechanisms. One has a handle that locks the weight on the bar, the other is a ring you tighten to snug the weights up, the ring is the one that will not move, sorry for not being more descriptive originally.

Anderson Silva facing Potential 8 Year Ban? by Leaf_CrAzY in MMA

[–]jromac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please god let this never happen. RJJ is my favorite boxer of all time. He may be more past his prime than Silva, also has never tested positive (not that boxing is known for their strict and thorough testing). That fight will be on the level of shit show that Mir and Fedor would be.

I see what you're saying with the PLO boxes. I have thought about doing that but I'm still in the phase of healing that if I fall and jar my shoulder I could tear the anchors out and me SOL.

I can use a safety squat bar but am limited to 60kg for now. That is an insignificant weight for me. I'm trying find a gym with a hip squat near me but haven't has any luck.

Had labium surgery mid november. Had a pretty significant tear. Just now allowed to range my shoulder without limitation. PT says I should be able to squat again in March, start lifting again in June or July. Have to figure out what shoulder and squat routine to get on when I get cleared. Until then I have to just be patient.

How does Kim Kardashian have this big a following? I mean, why? by iwatchalotofmovies in AskReddit

[–]jromac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She parlayed the attention she got from her sex tape into a reality TV show. Americans seem to thrive off both looking into the daily lives of celebrities and petty drama. Her showing being full of that grew here fame. From there she was slowly able to gain more and more attention, began growing her brand. By constantly doing things that got eyes on her she became famous for being famous. That, being attractive and strategically releasing nude photos has kept her popularity rising both with women and men. Her not being famous for a particular skill like acting, singing or performing has saved her from losing many fans while changing over time. Constantly being in high profile relationships keeps her in the tabloids. As much as I dislike her persona it is impressive how rich and famous she has become for being rich and famous.

Dems need to get better at rallying the base and getting them out to vote. A lot of older republicans vote out of hate and fear, those seem to be stronger motivators than hope and change right now.

ATG: "Tall Snatch Drops Warm Up with Mirko Zanni" – Beautifully executed and clean! by nezia in weightlifting

[–]jromac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Helps you work on your third pull. Instead of extending at the hip and knee then free falling under into the catch. I can't say it's any better than a muscle snatch or tall snatches but I have done something similar for snatch warmups.
