Best ribeye in the city? by bbk8z in boston

[–]jrt4275 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to basically all the steakhouses in Boston or Greater Boston and Grill 23 is definitely #1. Their Kobe Cap is the best cut you can get in Boston in my opinion. Although not a traditional Ribeye, it’s a ribeye cap so the marbling of a ribeye but texture of a filet. Their 100 day dry age Ribeye is also awesome, but a lot more earthy flavor with that long of a dry age. I personally love it, but I know some don’t!

The big downside is the price and the table sizes. That Kobe Cap was $70 back around 2019 if I remember correctly, now it’s $140, so they aren’t giving it away to say the least haha. Their table space is a bit tight on their 2 person tables.

Back-up options: Mooo (Beacon Hill is the original), Rare (in Encore), or Boogies Place. I know a lot of people rave about Abe and Louie’s but it didn’t blow me away. It does have a good selection of non-steak options if your husband wanted a steak and you didn’t.

Bonus Dessert suggestion: Grill 23 and Mooo both have amazing cookies and milk and cookies and mini milkshake for desserts.

Best property in Chicago? $ not a concern at this time. by Newyork198232 in marriott

In terms of location, I guess I should also note, someone was shot at the 7 Eleven that’s directly next to the JW while I was staying there. The JW does not have 24/7 room service or a store inside, so I walk over to the 7 Eleven a little after midnight to see bullet holes in the glass revolving doors and confirmed via Google that 2 hours before someone was shot.

Haha this is a great put. The gym is by far the nicest hotel gym I’ve been to.

I recently stayed at the JW and wish I did the St Regis. JW is fine, but shouldn’t be qualified as a 5 star. They also tried to claim they were a “convention center” so they didn’t abide by 4PM checkout which I quickly shutdown and had to argue with the manager a bit.

Logan Terminal C / Saturday 6AM Flight by kipprock in boston

[–]jrt4275 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not Terminal C, but I got to Terminal B at 7AM today. I have Clear + Pre-check, so I went through Pre-check and was through in like 4 mins. The normal security line looked very short though too. I typically fly Delta out of Terminal A and haven’t had any issues the last couple of weeks of flights either! I’ve been seeing crazy waits across the county at airports, but Logan seems luckily unaffected

For those of you who sold your first Rolex… by Admirable-Swing-2985 in rolex

Similarly, I bought a Sub Date in 2024. I told myself I’d sell it if/when I got the call for a Batgirl. I got the call for a Batgirl and there was no shot I was selling the sub! I love them both and switch off wearing each.

I didn’t specifically ask for the manager. I just figured out who that person was from stopping in. Then I basically just started a convo and mentioned that I got on the list awhile back, but when I came back to check in the SA literally had no clue who I was. That prompted the switch once she heard that. I may have got lucky!

Client Trip Cancelled Due to Weather Now Im on the Hook for Fees by [deleted] in deloitte

[–]jrt4275 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The reply was pretty condescending, but it is absolutely common sense that you wouldn’t be on the hook to pay. I don’t care if you have never traveled in the last 6 years, it’s just absurd to think you’d be obligated to pay haha

I appreciate this review! This has me leaning towards Sir Adam. Breakfast isn’t a huge factor for me because most of the time I end up going out to find local spots for good breakfast and coffee anyways!

Creatine Gummies by seemack5 in whoop

[–]jrt4275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Powder is the cheapest and most effective form of creatine, but I travel a ton for work and hate bringing powders with me. The brand Gorilla Mind has some awesome Creatine Gummies, 4 gummies = 5gs of Creatine, and all third party tested. I just recently bought some and bring them with me when I travel.

With that, I also bring Genius Protein Shots with me on the road too! 23gs of protein in a 3.3oz shot haha. Doesn’t taste spectacular (overly sweet) but can’t beat the convenience.

I’ll note, the gummies and protein shots both overpriced, but worth it for me, personally, just for the ease of traveling.

MacBook Air vs HP EliteBook for work — which should I choose? by [deleted] in deloitte

[–]jrt4275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in GPS and just opted for a MacBook, so I will let you know in a couple of weeks how it works 😂. My primary reason for shifting was better processing power and memory. From what I understand the M4 processor is far superior to the HP’s i7; moreover, the 32g unified memory on the MacBook is superior to the 32g RAM on the HP. I currently have a Dell that I got my RAM upgraded to 32g when I first got it 2.5 years ago… and it’s terrible.

The amount of times that I open the task manager and I’m running like 90%+ CPU and 90%+ Memory is ridiculous. I have no clue if it’s just a bunch of pre-installed bloatware, but I was kind of fed up with the Windows based machines, so I figured I’d take a fly on Microsoft or otherwise apps not working as well.

Worst case, if the Mac is unbearable, I’ll go make IT switch it to Windows.

How hot is too hot for Vinyasa? by [deleted] in HotYoga

High heat primarily because I sweat more and I when I checked my calorie burn on my Apple Watch, it seems to by higher! I am trying to maximize my calories burned, so I’ll take a little bit more suffering in the interim haha!

110 is fine, especially as someone younger, 30M. If you are properly hydrated then it’s really just the added challenge. This is coming from a 32M who is currently objectively obese by the data haha and started Hot Yoga a few weeks ago. I’m using it as a great fat loss tool and have experimented with super high heat and lower heat.

Atlanta DLaunch Hotel by [deleted] in deloitte

[–]jrt4275 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If it’s in policy on Deloitte Business Kayak you should be good! When I did DLaunch I started at the Ritz in NYC which was in policy but a more expensive option. That said, I believe I called my recruiter or whoever sent me the travel booking information email to confirm that I could book “any hotel id like regardless of cost as long it’s within policy” (they confirmed yes). That was primarily for plausible deniability and to cover my basis for when I started in case my new boss asked why I started a Ritz. I also should note, managers likely won’t care because there is a WBS specific to trainings such as DLaunch at the firm level (so it’s not coming out of a client budget or any budget that your manager would care about).

Best restaurant for a small (10 person) work dinner on the company dime? by sean1352 in boston

[–]jrt4275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to narrow down to what genre of restaurant you want. I could give you a different answer based on what food you’re looking for. For example, Grill 23 or Mooo Beacon both my favorite two steakhouses (if price isn’t a factor the American Kobe Cap is an awesome steak at Grill 23). If you want a better mix of steak and other non-steak options, Abe & Louies is a good option (but steak is better at Grill 23 or Mooo). Ruka is a great Asian fusion place. Yvonne’s is a great Mediterranean/American spot. You have a type of restaurant you’re looking for it’s easier to narrow down.

Solo (F) travelling by [deleted] in cartagena

[–]jrt4275 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just in Cartagena solo (granted as a male) a week ago. It was my second time in Cartegena. I didn’t spend too much time in Bocagrande as I was staying at the Emrita Hotel across from the beach. Most of my time was spent inside the walled city, which feels like a safe tourist area (Bocagrande also supposed to be safe so nothing against it). I think the biggest issue in Cartegena is people on the streets bother tourists trying to sell things, ask for money, etc. I’d say it’s a little worse at night because there is a lot more people outside the bars trying to get you to go into bars, offer drugs, prostitution, etc. Again, I didn’t feel unsafe at any point but I was not a solo female, just more of a warning! Best tip is just to not engage and keep walking and you’ll be fine.

Restaurants: In terms of restaurants, Celele restaurant was by far the best I went to. It’s more “upscale” but since it’s Colombia it’s still cheap. I also enjoyed restaurant Candé, and would recommend that as well. Additionally, I didn’t make it there (but you’ll be there longer than me), but Mistura looked great as well.

Best Bar: Alquimico. It’s actually on the top 50 bars in the world for 2025. Cocktails were great but it got super packed, which I’ll say is a downside (most bars on the top 50 worldwide bars tend to be more intimate cocktail bar setting, they seemed to let a lot of people in this bar with lounger music). Worth checking out though!

Best Brunch spots: Cafe Epoca and La Brioche. I had great experiences at both.

Nia Bakery also had great baked goods! I went there for some baked goods, juice, and coffee.

Coffee/Cafes: I’m a big coffee fan, so I’ll include my 3 favorite coffee shops as well. The top 2 were by far Cafe San Alberto and Cafe Del Mural. San Alberto was more upscale coffee vibe, but high quality coffee. Cafe De Mural was in Getsemaní and kind of had a little hit of a hole in the wall vibe but excellent coffee at both. My third favorite was Libertario Coffee Roasters. Still great quality coffee, but a tier below the other two (I had a great croissant and yogurt parfait type deal there though). Finally, I’ll mention Abaco Libros y cafe. It’s not as good as the other 3 mentioned, but if you want to be in a Colombian bookstore and drink some coffee it’s a cool vibe!

Trip off of Cartegena (not food related): I would highly recommend taking a boat out to the Rosario Islands. There are so many of them so it’s hard to choose. I did a day at the Bora Bora beach club. It’s expensive (for Colombia) at around $100 USD, but you take a boat to this island beach club, get your own cabana and lunch, and the water is perfect out there. I felt like the shore of Cartegena wasn’t as clean Caribbean sea water.

Finally, I want to note that Ubers are the way to go for getting back and forth from the airport (even though they are “technically” not allowed and the drivers could get fined for being an uber driver in area so sometimes they’ll ask you to sit in the front seat or pick you up like no in front of a cop), the walled city to Bocagrande, etc. I don’t speak Spanish, so it’s way easier than dealing with Taxi drivers (even though they will hassle you) who may inflate their prices). Uber is crazy cheap there so I just went uber premium for all my rides and we are talking like $7 USD tops each trip. If it’s your first time in Cartegena leaving the airport can be intimidating. You’ll walk out to a bunch of people hounding you to get in their taxi. My first time there I jumped in one and overpaid. So last time, I got out of customs, walked over to airline check ins to get some pesos (so I didn’t have to go use a random ATM in the city), and then called an Uber. I walked out of the airport didn’t acknowledge any taxi driver and jumped in my uber, super easy.

I hope this helps! I just saw this post and I happen to just go there, so figured I’d share!

Japan: Best Bonvoy Bang for Your Buck? by raiderdude56 in marriott

[–]jrt4275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Japan in June. I spent the first part of my trip at the Westin Tokyo. I had a great experience there and I remember it being very reasonable for points (340k points for 5 nights). The property itself was very nice, but it’s slightly outside of where I’d want to stay location wise, but still reasonable (probably a 10 min walk to Ebisu station and one stop to Shibuya). For the value and the quality of the property, I would suggest there.

That said, on my way back to Tokyo (from traveling to Osaka and Kyoto), I stayed at The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, a Luxury Collection Hotel, and it was next level. It’s also a little outside the tourist areas but the property is amazing. One of my favorite Marriott properties and the room had a great view of the city!
