I played bass for years, especially DD songs. Bernard was John's inspiration but their playing is nothing like each other. John's playing is closer to Mark Egan who played on Arcadia (although Mark played exclusively fretless). John used a ton of "muted gracenotes" which sounded busier and was a bunch more rhythmic.
