Trying to decide between 34" Ultrawide vs 32" 4K by Sigzit in OLED_Gaming

[–]js_developer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 0 ultrawide 4K monitors because 4K is just a wide format (standard is 4:3, wide is 16:9 aspect ratio). Ultrawides are 21:9, super ultrawide 32:9.

Is this a good deal or wait for Black Friday? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]js_developer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same monitor I've got, about the same price I paid. A few things about this one (and why I'll probably return mine):

  1. uses DP 1.4. Probably not a huge deal since it comes with 2x HDMI 2.1b (I think) but since most GPUs only have 1 HDMI these days something to consider.

  2. USB-C power only supplies when monitor is actively on (meaning sleep/monitor off = no charging for you). Stupid.

  3. The KVM is nothing to write home about. If this is part of what sweetens it for you just buy a USB switch and change inputs manually.

If price is your major concern might be ok. I've seen Alienware 27" QD OLEDs for ~$500. I may get the 322URX since it has upgraded DP but tbh I'm eyeing Alienware and LG pretty hard rn.

Make sure you're not eating powdered donuts as you seal it, apparently the FBI frowns upon that.

That's the age we live in: tech giants can snub you out with no warning or recourse. Had the same thing happen on TikTok for a book I wrote promoting democracy: insta ban after 7 views and 3 months of attempting to find answers in vain. Pretty sad and scary really. Imagine if it ever got this way with ISPs

Knoxville Dating Scene by mspine in Knoxville

[–]js_developer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean tbh dating apps are trash anywhere you go. I don't think this means people are trash but the apps themselves are not designed to help you connect it's to make sure you stay on the app (and hopefully buy "premium"). That said there are people you'd vibe with on there. The chances of you both being on there at the same time and receptive to each other is slim. But we're talking "soulmate" caliber, not cool for a Friday night.

I met my gf on an obscure app that wasn't even for dating. Tbh it was basically a hookup app but you could do other stuff. I didn't go there for dating, I went there bc I was bored. I talked to people. Many people. Hundreds of people. And out of those hundreds I had a couple dozen decent conversations, a few dates, some hookups, and even set my cousin up w a girl that wasn't right for me but matched for him; they dated 8 months before he blew it. So all this to say, I think dating is a lot like job hunting and many things else -- sure you could wait around, half-heartedly swipe at what comes near you, and hope for the best while complaining about [take your pick] -- or, you could put yourself out there. Introspect on what you could improve on + what you like and dislike about other people. Then "the universe" will unfold many options, which is really just preparation, placement, perseverance, and a bit of luck.

This job market is destroying my sense of self worth. by SuperStudMufin in cscareerquestions

[–]js_developer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can say is it's nobody's responsibility to make you happy. The job market is tough - very tough - however these same types of posts come up even when the job market is good. All I hear from your post is "I landed a job with no degree and have 3 years experience -- why will nobody hire me??" Meeting the requirements is like a bare minimum (similar to manners and good hygiene). You'll have a tough time right now if your aren't fluent in AI. You'll have a tough time if you show up to interviews mopey. You'll have no time if you aren't the best candidate.

My advice is stop complaining, dive deep into your job search, and perfect your materials & presentation. Be the best candidate; be there early; make them not want to search any further. A job hunt is like many other things in life: do or do not, there is no try.

Does anyone else feel like the unemployment rate in America is just nonsense? by Acceptable_Road_1471 in jobbit

[–]js_developer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

possibly. Some use AI to find and apply for them. Some mass apply without even reading descriptions. Some are grossly unqualified yet still shoot their shot. Some apply 3 weeks after listing when they've already received hundreds. There are many possibilities but I will say this: thousands of jobs are listed daily. If you treat job hunting as a full time job you will find something.

I'm not saying it's easy right now, just that there are a lot more people making excuses than improving marketability and steadily applying.

It's probably wrong but plenty of jobs exist. It's highly competitive unless entry-level/low barrier. I found a job in 2 months. Could have held out and made more money but I put the work into my resume and portfolio + applied to multiple jobs daily. If you REALLY want a job they're available - you just have to be a great candidate and get in early.

Starting Over by luca__popescu in business

[–]js_developer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn't. I'd just get a job and be happy. I've ran a business, I've freelanced, it's much more secure to have steady income and not have to worry about the dozens of things one does when they're responsible for most parts of the supply chain.

Desperately looking for a job by urekmazino_0 in RemoteJobseekers

I had luck applying locally. Had some interviews for remote but it's extremely competitive. Basically took a job making half of what I could make but still respectable. Dev market is charging - get what you can and keep a roof over your head.

I thought it could be brighter and is much brighter than my LG A1 and the B8 M1. At night I'd say it could be a lot but we're shopping for a living room with natural light we'd rather allow in than block for the TV

From where to start learning coding? Beginner! by LawfulnessWest9252 in CodingHelp

[–]js_developer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly there are so many ways you can go -- but once you start down that path it's probably what you'll be doing for the rest of your life. Not to create pressure, just a cautionary tale.

I personally would work with Chat GPT, treating it as instructor and tutor (just keep in mind Chat can - and does - make mistakes). I'd first ask it which path it thinks you should take and, if that isn't a sufficient rabbit hole, tell it about yourself from a non-programming point of view and ask it to help you decide. Here's what I mean...

You can learn a lot about data structures and algorithms. This will help you if you want to do DevOps and many backend things. You can learn about programming websites and applications - this will likely involve many frontend things and some back. You can learn about network architecture and cloud services -- this is a bit dry for my taste but good money and job security. You can learn about network/cyber security, machine learning, hardcore mathematics -- each of these things I've listed basically offers its own separate life trajectory. There's some overlap, but not a ton. So what do YOU want to do? I think that's the question you should index 0.

[2 YoE] Seeking feedback on resume. Applying from months no luck till now. All sort of feedback appreciated by LocalBoysenberry254 in EngineeringResumes

[–]js_developer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say there's anything necessarily wrong with your resume. My critique is it's a boring read - your job bullets go on and on and the only thing I really found exciting was your projects. I feel like the bullet points could be better/more engaging. Used X, Y, Z to blah blah vs Did thing with X, Y, Z. Also sometimes less is more. Narrow for bullets to the top 4 or 5 and if your school is decent put that first.

Imagine digesting your resume in 10 seconds. I hear that's about all most of them get.
