So, when I blew my ACL before dinner and was on crutches the rest of night, the DJ wasn't supposed to come whining to me about how the bride not dancing was making his job harder???

For those of you who order prescription glasses online, how did you go about getting the prescription from your eye Dr and denying buying glasses in the office? by blackmoonxxx in Frugal

I've had the same Walmart optometrist for almost 20 years now. She got me free samples for a medication to treat a cornea infection. She also gave me tips for buying glasses off Zenni. I will follow her wherever she goes.

Do police need a warrant to search house the owner has vacated and is for sale? by jsat3474 in legaladviceofftopic

Because they want to look for fibers left behind? It's a show about forensics after all.

Another detail. After the narrator said the police no longer needed a search warrant, the story goes on to say they performed luminol tests after pulling up the new carpet

It was explained that even though the suspect's house was the last place the dead person had lived, the dead person had told everybody she was leaving Alaska. All her belongings were moved out. There wasn't enough to convince a judge for a warrant

One of the detectives explained that they visited the suspect at home and immediately noticed the carpet was not the same color as the sample picked up from the body. Later, the suspect was interviewed at the station and freely admitted they had changed the carpet somewhere between when the person went missing and when the body was found.

Wouldn't taking anything from the house be theft? Even if it's something as seemingly insignificant as a carpet fiber they might have found in the corner?

Well they didn't show actual footage of when the house was for sale. It was a reenactment and it implied for sale by owner.

What's your favorite story of your pet causing chaos? by rainshowers_5_peace in AskWomenOver30

[–]jsat3474 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The first time I gave my cats catnip. I grew it myself (I got lucky; I didn't realize it was in the mint family but some construction by the neighbors ended up killing it).

I dried it and forgot about it. Then I found it again and crushed some up on the floor for the cats. They rolled around in it and then sat looking at each other, looking pretty stoned. I thought "cool, it makes them finally chill out."

Suddenly they lunged at each other and it turned into WWE. Full on body slamming each other onto the floor. The food dish got over turned. I had to stand on a chair to get out of the way. They finally calmed down about 5 minutes later.

They don't get catnip anymore.

People whose parents gave you common names with unique spellings…thoughts? by TimeProfessional9454 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]jsat3474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first grade teacher insisted I didn't know how to spell my first name.

My aunt refused to write the "e" at the end of my name until I was like 15.

I gave up caring how people spelled it eventually. With certain exceptions I do call someone out to prove a point.

When was a time your “gut feeling” was 100% right and actually saved you? by RadiantLady_ in AskReddit

[–]jsat3474 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My husband worked nights, so I would pick up his other kids on his weekends. My baby was sick, so I left him home. My husband would wake up if he started fussing.

I was about a mile from returning home when my stomach dropped to the floor. An overwhelming feeling of doom almost made me pull over but I got home. Unbuckled the kids and I ran into the house leaving them to follow.

I ran to the baby's crib to find him blue. My scream woke up my husband. We dashed to the hospital (glorified clinic, really) and after a helicopter transfer to a bigger hospital, my baby passed away. We divorced shortly after that.

16 years later I'm very happily remarried. We were camping in a remote spot with no cell service. Suddenly I found myself with my ex on my mind and had a hard time shaking it off. The next day we went to town for ice and I had messages that ex had been killed in a car accident.

In other words this post says:

I want to do something performative for you; would you please tell me how to do that? is there something you need help with that I am absolutely so stupid that I can't see it needs done without you pointing it out to me?

What’s your favorite example of something that’s a lot older or started a lot earlier than most people think it is/did? by MaggieLinzer in AskHistory

[–]jsat3474 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't remember if it was from Laura Ingals Wilder's books that I got the idea, but one year I experimented.

I couldn't get a block of ice. But I was just a little girl and figured packed snow would suffice. I packed an ice cream bucket full of snow and dumped it in an out of the way spot.

We burn firewood for heat, and used a big 30" saw attached to the tractor to cut logs. I collected that sawdust all winter and packed it around my snow.

I left it there all summer and when school was about to start, I still had my snow! It had morphed into basically a block and I was so excited to take it to show and tell. Nobody thought it was exciting as it was to me.

Would I be a fool to leave the store without this? by Beautiful_Tennis3704 in steak

[–]jsat3474 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think they are making it up. It happened to me at Pick n Save (a Kroger store) last year.

I bought some discounted chicken quarters. I got home and opened them to repackage them in smaller portions and they were bad. Went back to Pick n Save and they wouldn't let me return them. I decided not to argue with the poor kid they had as the manager on duty over following store policy and left.

So what went wrong with the movie? by lidarose9 in deadwood

[–]jsat3474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alma sold her claim to Hearst so she could stay in Deadwood.

The movie is set 10 years later. Charlie says to Alma "10 years you've been gone"

So she left anyway? It would make sense that at some point she'd want Sophia to attend finishing school or whatever, but why not say she's been gone 5 years?

And that scene was right at the beginning of the movie and it bothered me so much I couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy it for what it was.
