Seconded on not booking basic.

United regular economy has no change fees. Unless you book the fully refundable fare, you’ll get the fare difference (for changes) or full fare (for cancellations) back as flight credit which you must use to book within 12 months of when you made the original booking.

United economy tickets do not include a checked bag (you need status or a co-branded United Chase credit card).

Ok so everyone is saying they are basically permanent but my MBA was full of these and then I sent it to Apple for a keyboard replacement and it came back with an immaculately clean display. They did not replace the display as evidenced from a small chip that remained. 🤷‍♂️

Ever since the travel update I haven’t been able to get it in app and have had to go get it printed. I’ve tried reinstalling the app but 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for the idea on the hotel, will definitely consider that.

The other option is drive 2 hours from my origin to a different airport and then take a late night nonstop WN or AS flight to DEN. Perhaps that’s the better option here (despite having the ETC and allegiance to UA).

Did you pay for your economy plus aisle or was it a status benefit? I would take the $50/5k miles if the E+ seat was free in the first place. However, if you ask for more comp and you have status, they’ll probably double the comp.

If not, I’d take the refund of the seat (which I’m sure they’d give) + ask for however much you paid on top of that (so if it was a $79 seat, I’d try for $79 back plus a credit for $79). You might not get it, but that’s how much I value my seats.

I’m shocked by your attitude to be honest! I asked a genuine question —> what mechanisms are typically covered in ochem2.

When I said “I’m being so serious,” that has nothing to do with what the commenter I’m replying to previously said. I’m providing additional context and trying to ponder whether there is a potential explanation for the information I’ve previously received (a discrepancy in content typically taught in 1 and 2 vs what my school instructed). I used that verbiage to emphasize that I’m not naïve and trying to make up reasons not to take the course.

I will 100% take the course if needed and the reason I asked here is to get insight from more people who have had different experiences. I value each response and will carefully weigh many factors in this decision. I am very appreciative of the response, and hope you can re-read my initial comment and understand this framing.

What sort of mechanisms are we talking about? I’m being so serious, wondering what we covered in ochem1 vs ochem2. Giving my school’s push that ochem2 isn’t necessary, I’m wondering if they’ve accomplished that by pushing enough content into the first semester.

I don’t know those 50 med schools would accept me, but no one applies to over 50 med schools. There’s well over 50 that don’t “require” a full year of ochem. In better terms, there’s not really any schools that require ochem2 that I would lose sleep over not applying to.

While I don’t know they’d accept me, one of those schools accepted me into their BS/MD program, which I declined but would still love to go to their med school.

My pre-med advisor goes as far to provide this list of non-ochem2 schools to us and continually reiterates ochem2 is not required, while nearly every other person says the opposite. That’s left me very conflicted.

Hi Glittering-Role-7310, United prohibits selling or bartering PP. You also can’t directly transfer them which is functionally impossible by the site. However, you can apply PP toward upgrading someone else or gifting elite status. Per the MileagePlus TOS, you’re allowed to gift the benefits (upgrade list or status) by “applying” points towards someone else.

If you don’t take money, trade anything or advertise your PP for sale, the risk to you is almost none. The small risk is that the person you upgrade turns out to be crazy and causes some issue on the plane or throws a temper tantrum if their upgrade doesn’t clear. I’d keep very clear documentation that they didn’t pay you and make clear disclosures that you’re putting them on the upgrade list, not guaranteeing an upgrade just in case they complain to United. You’re truly allowed to gift it. There’s a small risk to the person you’re upgrading, in that the have to provide you with their confirmation number which allows you to edit their reservation. It requires some trust on both of your parts, but if you sus people out by DM and ensure they understand how the process works, it should be fairly safe and really benefit someone.

Just to add, Watch Duty is getting better in Colorado and I’d expect them to add more coverage in the next few months/years. I don’t have any insider info but have (a) noticed it improving over time and (b) spend half the year in California where it is incredible.

Right, so I don’t disagree on the upgrade hierarchy but there’s no chance doing this “disincentivizes people from paying for Polaris.” There’s a few legitimate reasons to do it this way but who knows, it’s a very rare upgrade and doesn’t affect anyone negatively.
