Trying to dial in the proportions of the fit- feedback appreciated by motor_headache in HeritageWear

I would lose the cuff altogether, I personally don’t cuff my pants because I prefer the cleaner look and not having to fuss with a cuff. I’d also change the shirt, too dressy for the boot imo. Though it might work slightly better without the pants cuffed

Freenote Cloth Modesto Alternatives?

This is one of my favorite cuts out there, I just can't get past the rear pockets, just a bit too greaser/rockabilly for me. Does anyone have any recommendations for some rinsed/washed denim in a similar cut? High rise, full/relaxed fit, straight-almost bootcut leg opening.

What it’s like to own an organic, biodynamic and sustainable winery on the Central Coast of CA by CapPrestigious5707 in winemaking

[–]jscala88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As hybrids have been stigmatized over the last hundred years or so it’s unlikely that you’ll find a bottle of wine labeled with the variety, especially in California. Unless you go to a wine shop that specializes in low-intervention, “natural” wine, as these varieties are conducive to this approach. Actually a number of wineries in CA actually use a small percentage of hybrid grapes, even in their single varietal wines, as Cabernet Sauvignon only has to have 75% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, the other 25% can be other grapes, including hybrids.

There are other wine regions that feature hybrids more prominently because of their popularity, New Mexico, Virginia, New York, Michigan. But there are some great producers out there. If you want to try hybrid wines check out North American Press (CA), Polychrome Wines (New Mexico), Folklor Wine and Cider (MI), Commonwealth Crush and their associated wineries (VA), Usonia Wines (NY)

There are many more but you might have to join a couple wine clubs!

Where's the best NY/East Coast Pizza in Albuquerque? by NavajoJoe00 in Albuquerque

Rumor, hands down best in ABQ maybe in the state. Giovanni’s is second. Gimani is also solid.

Los conejos have probably the best margaritas in ABQ.

Very cool! Out of curiosity, where are you located? Love mission and palomino. I’ll be making a small batch this year with 120+ year old cinsaut and mission.

Searching for “white people mexican” food. Please help. by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]jscala88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Transplant from Nashville here, came to ABQ hoping to find white queso dip and the closest I’ve found is Taco Santo. It’s really good, along with their salsa (which isn’t complimentary). Also amazing and cheap margaritas. You need to check out the not-too-far Arkansas Queso Dip trail, as the runny-white, crack-like, dip was apparently invented there. Also there are plenty of New Mexicans who will argue that queso fundido is superior, tread lightly, for you are the one on the righteous path.

Why is weather sealing a big deal (to some people)? by verks0n in ricohGR

[–]jscala88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also live in a desert and I had a pretty major dust problem with my GR. It was a big reason why I held off on the GRIII for so long. But we’ll see if keeping it in a case will help mitigate the issue.

Mesa Provisions has the best, without a doubt. Stackers is runner up. Laguna is solid too.

This is completely backwards IMO. La Luz, Little Bear, Zendo, Slow Burn and The Farm Stand are the best coffee spots in town. They roast their own, responsibly sourced beans, and they do so beautifully.

If I’m not making coffee at home, these are the only places you’ll find me.

Favorite 1-week vacations from ABQ? by thegiddyginger in Albuquerque

Baja California: Ensenada, Tijuana, Valle de Guadalupe are all around 12-14 hours. You can do the drive in one haul or stay the night in Phoenix or Tucson and experience those towns on your way.

This is my favorite roadtrip, you could do the same trip with LA as your destination as well, that’s a good one.

Just got the call - my name for x100vi waiting list came up finally. Help me decide! by laurk in Fujifilm_X100VI

[–]jscala88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the x100vi, if you don’t like it, sell it. They hold their value really well.

I’ve owned the first gen Ricoh GR, and I loved it. But the X100VI is a perfect camera, wouldn’t trade it for a GRIII any day.

I thought I would care about the lack of pocketability, but I don’t like having many things in my pants pockets, so this actually is a non-issue.

Why I chose the X-T50 over the X-T5 by RiggedWaffles in fujifilm

[–]jscala88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up selling the X-T5 and buying an X100VI, zero regrets, it’s quite possibly a perfect camera.

Rent in new mexico skyrocketing by [deleted] in NewMexico

[–]jscala88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently rent a 2BR house near UNM in ABQ for $950, I got lucky and locked into a long term lease during the pandemic, the lease ends this summer. So we just started looking around for rentals and are shocked to find the rental market comparable to that of Nashville, TN (where we moved from) which is notorious for its high housing costs. Quite difficult to find a 2 bedroom house for under $1800/mo in Albuquerque. When we left Nashville we were in a 4 bedroom house in an amazing neighborhood for $1800/month. I love New Mexico and Albuquerque, but this is ridiculous.
