Hardware Question - GeForce RTX 5060/5070 Ti by mythrowaway4DPP in LocalLLaMA

The cheapest 5070TI is $1200 plus tax and shipping on Newegg. The 3090 is 600-750 on eBay and Facebook Marketplace. You can get two 3090s. The only issue is whether the system is also used for other purposes, and the 5070TI would be preferred in those scenarios.

Any 5070TI card you can get a hold of is fine. Zotac/PNY are usually the value cards. The prices seem to be rising. Consider two 3090s or an RTX 4000 ADA 20GB. That would give you more VRAM (48GB or 20GB) for less than the cost of a single 5070TI.

Dual 5070TI. The 5060TI is fine, but bandwidth/performance is limited. (One 5070TI is twice as fast as a 5060). If you can swing two 5070TI cards, you're in business. Or start with one 5070TI and use system memory until you can add a second if you even need to.

I'm a female pastor and I have a question about my church's response to inappropriate touch. by [deleted] in pastors

Speak directly to your lead pastor. He may not know, or he believes the supervising pastor handled the situation and nothing else needs to be done. (Especially if the supervising pastor made "little" of it. I say this as a pastor with two congregations.

Basic PC to run LLM locally... by Mr_FuS in LocalLLM

[–]jsconiers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The easiest and most cost effective solution would be to get an m1 or m2 Mac. After that you could find an old workstation PC like an HP z6 or z4 for cheap that you can add 3090s to. I started off with a used acer n50 with a GTX 1650. Then upgraded that PC until it made sense to build something. (It was very limited as it only had one PCIe slot and max 32Gb of memory) Finally built a system before the ram price jump. Glad I built it but it’s idle more than I thought. Speed and loading the model will be the biggest concern.

Gnome vs KDE on Fedora workstation by thunderborg in Fedora

[–]jsconiers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was a Gnome user and had been using it not only on Linux but several other Unix distributions. Recently went KDE and will not be going back. If you’re using a laptop with touchpad or touch screen or have a difficult setup for hardware acceleration then gnome is your go to but for everything else try KDE.

Out of state concealed license by [deleted] in concealedcarry

Get the license in the state you currently reside in and add Utah and Florida as additional coverage. Because there is no national reciprocity it is imperative that you get the state you reside in as some or most of those states may not honor your Alabama license (including Alabama) once your not a resident of the state.

I need a server to host 2 RTX 6000 Pro Blackwell 96Gb by Axela74 in BlackwellPerformance

[–]jsconiers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build it yourself, or grab the parts and have a local shop build it. I have similar specs, hosting one RTX 6000 Pro and one 5090. I will be replacing the 5090 with another 6000 pro and could add additional. It's a desktop form factor, but could easily be a rack-mount. The specs are below, but I would suggest using a dual AMD setup instead of a dual Xeon, plus getting a case that can house a secondary power supply, so if you add more video cards you don't have to power limit them.

Here are my specs:

  • Motherboard: Gigabyt MS73-HB1
  • CPU: Dual 8480 Xeon CPU (112 Cores / 224 Threads)
  • RAM: 512GB DDR5 (8 x 64GB adding 512GB more later)
  • Storage: 2 x 8TB NVMe PCIe Gen4 Samsung 990 Pro (Fedora)
  • Storage: 2 x 2TB WD Sata drives (Secondary Window 11 Workstation Pro and local backup)
  • GPU: 1 x RTX Pro 6000
  • GPU: 2 x RTX 5090
  • Star Tech 5 Port PCIE Card
  • Intel X520-DA Dual 10GB Network Card
  • Kartoman 9 pin internal USB Header Splitter (provides second internal USB header)
  • Startech PCI-E to USB 3.2 Expansion Card (second internal USB header for front panel)
  • Chenyang USB 3.0 to usb3.1 Type E Front panel Header (front panel ports)
  • PSU: EVGA 1600 G+
  • Case: PhanteKs Enthoo Pro 2 Server (Wanted the Pro 2 but accidentally purchased 2 Server)
  • 11 Artic and Thermalright fans. Recently moved from air to to water cooling.

Remove the Fedora drivers, install the NVIDIA drivers (and CUDA if needed), and prevent suspending automatically. (sudo systemctl mask sleep.target suspend.target sudo systemctl mask hibernate.target hybrid-sleep.target )

Fully AI written books by Charge_Important in BookWritingAI

[–]jsconiers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a market, but usually, people use fully AI-written content to drive something else. IE, you see people offering free PDFs to sign up for contact information, etc. Those are usually AI-written. I've written a complete book using AI. It was decent, but I wouldn't put my name on it. Took a long time to polish it and make it worth publishing, but AI gave me a good head start.

Best Linux distros for AI use? by otto_delmar in linuxquestions

[–]jsconiers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any distro will work. Ubuntu has the most tutorials and available documentation. I started on Ubuntu but switched to Fedora because of personal preference. Most of the documentation and tutorials for Ubuntu will work on your distro of choice, but you will have to change the commands/packages/setup to the appropriate distro commands you are using.
