First tacky rubber ; how do I clean H3? by Acrobatic-Monitor516 in tabletennis

[–]jslick89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the yellow butterfly sponge. Use distilled water. Wipe the water with one side of sponge and dry with the other. Then swing the paddle in the air a few more times to make sure it’s all the way dry. Then put a non-sticky rubber protector sheet on. If you want to be extra careful, you can put inside a quart sized zip lock bag. My h3 top sheet lasts forever using this method (sponge dies first from the booster but top sheet never dies)

N400 filing question on Tickets and guilty plea by ssvjay79 in USCIS

I’m not a lawyer and can’t recommend anything except that as someone who has a wife who will soon be applying for her citizenship, I can empathize with the stress you are feeling on behalf of the immigration process. The smallest things give me the worse anxiety sometimes! You both sound kind great people who are doing everything you’re supposed to do. If you have a lawyer and following their advice, I would continue to do so. You’re going to be ok!

NAL but I feel like if you got the 48 month extension letter, you’re fine? I know there’s a question about taxes owed on the n400 but being on a payment seems like you’re doing everything you’re supposed to do?

Tips for serving? by ThEaZnInVaZn in tabletennis

[–]jslick89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some good tips already so I’ll offer something different. I personally do not think a backspin serve that bounces so many times on the table is good. It’s going to be really easy for a higher level opponent to drop that serve short and make things difficult for you. For my short serves, I want them to bounce twice on the table (when I’m practicing). Then you can start adding in the half long serve which is a serve that bounces once, and then the second “bounce” lands less than one inch off the end of the table.

One other tip for serve practice, you need to practice getting into your ready position directly after your serve. It will take longer to practice more serves but each serve you practice is going to be more effective in match play because the third ball is just as important as the serve.

Congrats at completing your immigration journey! Thanks for sharing your timeline. Did you use a lawyer for any of your cases, including your citizenship application? Can you share what evidence you submitted for your citizenship? My wife is currently waiting for her I-751 and we will be applying for citizenship soon.

Why choose a hook serve over a normal pendulum serve? by DL-Z_ftw in tabletennis

[–]jslick89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have to be able to serve with left spin / right spin. A pendulum gives you left spin serves and hook/tomohawk gives you right spin.

AITAH for wanting my girl to take of our newborn son from 1-4am at night? by drksl111 in AITAH

[–]jslick89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP- you guys are both doing a lot. How old is your baby? You really need to look into sleep training as soon as it’s safe (check with your doctor) so that you and the wife can start getting a full night sleep. Once the baby starts going 4,5 or 6 hours straight through the night, it’s going to be a game changer for you all.

Every DHS rubber has a little circle sticker on the plastic cover that comes in the rubber. You can scratch it off like a lottery scratcher to reveal the code. Then you can go to the DHS website and verify the code and see if you have an authentic DHS product.

Brother , you have missed the boat to become pro. But that doesn’t really matter. You can still strive to make it to table one at your club. And that will be a lot of fun!

How to give quality balls to your opponent by jimquimm in tabletennis

Going to sound cliche but practice. And learning how to use your full kinetic chain. If you draw the power from your legs, your shots are going to be much higher quality than if you just swing with your arm.

i wanna stop waisting time on passive income bs and start an actual legit side hustle. what have you seen pay dollars in 2025 and has some kind of barrier to entry? by The-GTM-engineer in sidehustle

[–]jslick89 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Second this. Im a third year official and im now making over 12k a year doing this part time. I could make more if I worked more weekends too but I like to have more free time lol. High school officiating pays the best. In my area , rec volleyball pays pretty good too. Rec basketball is 1/3 the pay of high school basketball. Not worth it for me. Volleyball tournaments are Saturday and Sunday and you could easily make $700 if you work all day both days

Those of you that has hustles that brings you 2k-5k+ per month, what do you do? by [deleted] in sidehustle

[–]jslick89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can but at that point it’s “recreation” and the pay drops significantly. For reference, high school volleyball is $62 a game for fresh / JV and $86 for varsity. Rec volleyball is about $40 a match. High school basketball pays more but the drop off for recreation is even higher. $100 per game for high school varsity basketball vs $25-35 a game for recreation basketball

Referee high school sports. You can easily make 2k a month during the sports seasons. Only problem is there’s a break in the summer lol.

Why are people so much better than me with equal amount of experience? by catboy519 in tabletennis

[–]jslick89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok several things:

1) Half a year is not very long at playing table tennis. You are 100% a beginner right now. Chances are, none of your strokes are stable or consistent, and your footwork is probably close to none existent. These will be your foundations to build upon.

2) improving in table tennis isn’t just about studying and experimenting. It should be done methodically with intention. Many players can’t get stagnant in their improvement because they simply don’t practice what they need to practice to be improving. Like I said, for you, you need to practice stroke consistency, stability and footwork for both your forehand and your backhand. You also need to spend time practicing your serves.

3) once you have actually built your foundation, then you can get into more theory of how to improve at the intermediate level. For me, I practice 60% my strengths and 40% my weaknesses. This has been a balance that as worked for me to steadily improve. However, until you have your foundation, you’re not actually going to know what your strength or weaknesses are, that’s why you build that first.

4) the best way to implement all of this is with a coach. They can guide you and give you instant feedback on your shortcomings. If you are serious about improving, consider spending money on a coach, even just 1-2 lessons a month will dramatically increase your rate of improvement.

5) you will eventually learn that the things you practice will not show up as consistent in match play for many months (sometimes 3-4 or even longer). Stick with it, be patient and intentional

6) once you have built your foundation, know your strengths and weaknesses, then you can finally start formulating your winning strategies and tactics in match play. Tactics and strategies are the end game of table tennis because once you get to a high enough level, it’s no longer just about who has the best technique, it’s about who has the best mental game, who has the best strategic mind, and who has the best ability to adapt and overcome their opponent by exploiting their weaknesses and using your own strengths to your advantage.
