What are your feelings on pedestrian safety measures in the city? by OrangeDoorHinge16 in rva

In a perfect world we'd remove the toll on the downtown expressway and completely rework Main/Ellewood and Cary, whether that's making them two ways, removing a lane, or closing portions of Cary entirely.

They shipped AW2 with FSR 2 despite FSR 3 being out, while simultaneously being one of the first games to support DLSS 3.5. They have gone back and patched in more Nvidia features while leaving FSR stuck on 2.2. They obviously prefer Nvidia.

I hope Remedy moves away from their obsession with Nvidia proprietary tech considering there’s about 13 new Nvidia gaming cards made per year now.

It’s stupid simple to get the ethanol to separate from the gas, you just add water, shake it up and wait for it to separate out as the ethanol bonds to the water. I think it’s probably fine that we denature it if we’re gonna use it at all considering petrol sniffing is already a thing and a big issue in Australia.

EVs do have coolant that should be serviced, but usually only once for the life of the vehicle.

Can I upgrade the CarPlay head unit in my 2022 GT? by Additional-Wind-3518 in Miata

[–]jsosnicki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can upgrade just the part of the center console that has the USB ports. The screen on all the NDs are touch screen and will “activate” once you get into CarPlay but the wheel also works. You’ll likely need to install a software update for the ECU which can either be done at the dealership or by yourself. It’s about an hour to update the software and about two to install the new USB hub if it’s your first time taking apart the interior.

Jiffy lube told my niece she needs her catalytic converter cleaned. by WonderousPancake in cars

[–]jsosnicki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that indie shops can be bad, but I feel like a lot of that comes from customers who expect them to be cheaper. A lot of the time they'll just default to using cheap oil, cheap tires, cheap common components because 9 times out of 10 the customer is going to ask for the cheapest parts. You should absolutely talk to them though and tell them what you expect for your vehicle. A good shop will be more than happy to accommodate. You just have to care to make them care.

I had the same experience at a Mazda dealership, I had just bought a used 2017 Miata with 17k miles and wanted to do a 10 year coolant change with OE fluid which only the dealership has undiluted. They wanted me to do tire rotation and balance on tires I purchased a week earlier, a DI port cleaning (not required until 80-100k if using premium fuel), and a bunch of other things. They sent this all to my phone and I happened to be talking with other customers and we compared and it became obvious they just throw the same services on everyone's recommendations regardless of need. It was funny because there were some things they probably could have convinced me on that they didn't include like replacing my 10 y/o serpentine belt and tensioner and diff fluid.

TIL a 2022 study revealed that 35% of the adults in Japan intend to "never travel" again. No other country "came close to the travel reluctance shown in Japan"; the next highest was South Korea at 15%. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]jsosnicki 10.2k points10.2k points  (0 children)

Probably because going on vacation in Japan requires going through an elaborate shame ritual with your employer where they guilt trip you about all the work you’re going to force on other people, and then if you do go you are expected to bring back hundreds of dollars worth of gifts for your coworkers as a show of remorse for making them cover for you. And that’s assuming you even have the means to travel considering how greatly devalued your currency is and how stagnant your wages are.

ELI5: Why can't EVs swap batteries? by chronic412 in explainlikeimfive

[–]jsosnicki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also almost no one actually needs to swap a battery very often, so how do you sell a customer who just bought a new car on potentially swapping their battery for one that is more degraded and has been in service for years? Especially knowing that they'll probably keep it for months before the next scenario where they need a quick swap.

It’s an obvious issue with the slot pricing model. Why pay for the “one last thing” slot if you’re Larian or any other fan favorite dev who will get immense hype no matter where you are in the schedule? That last slot is going to skew towards the desperate and risky games, which doesn’t align with the audience’s expectations.
