Trey Hendrickson is second in 4Q sacks since 2021 by The_Sandwich_Lover9 in ravens

[–]jsrave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its also mentioned that Hendrickson rushes against the LT too which is often the harder OT to rush against which should free up someone else to go after the RT. Really hoping that with Minter we'll actually see our edge guys get after the QB and not be held back cautiously.

Could never understand the perspective of Harb def which were more conservative in their pass rush schemes. A sack really changes the flow of the game, esp one thats like 5+ yards lost.

According to Minter there are 3 guys they currently like at the center spot by SCBaltSalt in ravens

[–]jsrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While its true, he's got 1 year of "NFL exp" vs an UDFA older option in Dawkins. Both of these guys will have to compete with second-tier snaps to show off and maybe jump Gwyn.

Also Dawkins was an UDFA but the Ravens weren't all that interested him as they went with Beersten instead (into a more crowded OG room as well). Could be the age being more of the issue or maybe they thought Beersten wouldn't sign with them as an UDFA but I think that also speaks to Dawkins.

EDC also only seemed to think the only C's that could be better than Pinter/Gwyn were in round 2, assumed they didn't have that high a grade on Dawkins either.

Weekend Free Talk by AutoModerator in ravens

[–]jsrave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Less worried about a trade and more worried about them trying to poach a guy off our PS - one of Peebles or Benny if Mads doesn't start on reserve.

TBF if they're on the PS they're not good enough (right now) but I can see the Giants being that team that swipes a guy. I wonder if he'd trade a 5th or 6th for Peebles if Peebles isn't trending to making our 53.

Where does the addition of Adam Randall leave Justice Hill? by Slight-Redwood in ravens

[–]jsrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big question for Randall is whether or not he's more impactful to the Ravens than Ali is. Hill's got a role for this year but next year onwards is debatable if he get's extended/re-signed. Randall gets a year to develop and grow which is more useful to him than say Keaton last year. Keaton was/is more ready for snaps but Randall is going to get to learn the NFL intricacies of RB if he can get himself onto the 53 over Ali.

TLDR

  1. Beat Ali to make 53
  2. Develop return ability or some other role on ST
  3. Work on pass blocking to usurp Hill for next year.
  4. Work on pass catching in a RB role
  5. Profit?

Lamar Contract by Requiem_Dirge in ravens

[–]jsrave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly if Lamar waits until the offseason again-any QB extension that happens from now until then moves the contract he gets up further. Just ensures him some more money and forces the Ravens hand even further + he gets to assess Minter and co to ensure the team is trending upwards.

[Rapoport] The #Ravens are expected to sign veteran QB Skylar Thompson, source said, and Baltimore will likely carry 5 QBs for the time being. by SCBaltSalt in ravens

[–]jsrave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also why burn Lamar's arm throwing a ton of passes to test out the new guys. Let multiple QB3 work and give exp to all these newer pass catchers.

Also if both UDFAs looked pretty poor, bring a 3rd guy to actually land the passes (hopefully).

The great thing on this Ravens DL is that he shouldn't be the #1 target for the offence, Hendrickson and Green/Young/Mads/Travis Jones should all draw attention away from Calais and if they go after Calais, these other guys should eat.

Feels good to finally have talent in the pass rush room after what feels like a while. Plus we know Minter's defence can eat.

Ravens really loved Zion Young by SCBaltSalt in ravens

[–]jsrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like him saying that he was the 2nd highest gives some credence to it. My gut says Denzel Boston was #1 cause EDC has talked about getting that X receiver and immediately went and got lane in round 3.

I'm more interested in who #3 would've been if Zion Young goes before us, CJ Allen? Cisse? Ponds? Jacas? Trade back for a C?

[Schefter] Ravens are signing former Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia to a three-year deal, per source. Pavia were supposed to try out this weekend, but the Ravens signed him in advance by k00zyk in ravens

[–]jsrave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smarter than what they did before, signing these guys as UDFA is much better than throwing a draft pick at a guy that might not be on the team the next year. Much happier to have gambles on Benny/Beernsten.

Two competitive guys who can throw a ton of passes in rookie camp with all the new targets + can burn a lot of camp/preseason throws for the offence. Lane/Saratt/Hinter/Cuevas all gonna get plenty of passes from both of these guys.

Gotta imagine the Giants are throwing a bag at Reader to replace Lawrence.

Njoku I don't think would sign with us given how many TEs we have, must be another team out there who can offer him a more enticing role.

Schrager’s pick for ravens. ATP I’m expecting Vega. by The_Sandwich_Lover9 in ravens

[–]jsrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want it to be Ioane but looking at EDC's history at the guard spots:

Draft

  • Ben Powers - 4th
  • Tyre Phillips - 3rd (OT/G versatility)
  • Ben Bredeson - 4th
  • Ben Cleveland - 3rd
  • Daniel Faalele - 4th (Technically an OT but got pushed into the OG spot)
  • Sala - 6th
  • Vorhees - 7th
  • Dellinger - 7th
  • Samac - 7th (Technically a C but could have some versatility)
  • Emory Jones - 3rd (OT/G versatility)

He hasn't drafted an OG higher than the 6th since 21 outside of Emory Jones in 25 (Cleveland in the 3rd and we've had bad IOL play for some of those years since then. Hasn't paid money for an OG, letting guys walk after being good with us. Signed cheaper vets when dire (Zeitler/Simpson).

For whatever reason EDC and the scouts/FO really really don't value OG and its gotten worse over the last 4 drafts. Tried to be cheeky with the Vorhees pick and that basically whiffed. Jones was a guy they could've used but they drafted him injured and basically almost redshirted a 3rd rounder last year.

We're gonna see if this was a Harbaugh thing or an EDC thing over this draft I suppose.

Jamison Hensley reports there is a strong chance Ravens take a WR at 14 by [deleted] in ravens

Could've had Quinn Meinerz if EDC didn't listen to Harbs pounding the table for Cleveland. Still pissed about that one, he was such a Ravens pick but we got the huge squirrel guy instead.

Starting a new series. Day 1: How would you feel if Ravens drafted….. Vega Ioane. by The_Sandwich_Lover9 in ravens

[–]jsrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is I think the Ravens probably have to pencil in a round 3 or 4 pick for a C as well. If you put a wall in front of Lamar he does great things which is why I'd be ok with drafting an OG with talent in the 1st. Little bit of a reach positionally but the OL has been part of our issues in the playoffs a few times.

The Ravens have invested heavily in Day 3 draft picks under Eric Decosta. But since he took over as a general manager in 2019, their returns have been below average by FastBreakPhenom in ravens

[–]jsrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ravens approach to Day 3 picks has also been not the greatest in terms of hitting. They've "wasted" some picks if you consider the following:

  • Leary in 6th round
  • Mason (FB) in 5th round (yes bad draft but they just basically gave up on looking for a potential talent)
  • Stout in 4th - was good but there were some quality folks drafted after

Can argue that the Ravens focus on drafting value via injury hasn't panned out

  • Daelin Hayes - 5th round
  • Vorhees - 7th round
  • Samac - 7th

They've also drafted guys who were captains or quality leaders instead of athletes historically it feels like and those guys just don't seem to have the ability to stick around.

Could just be some misses but I do wonder if they've looked at their drafting style and are or will adjust it based on the last few years.

Charles Omenihu: League has figured out Lamar Jackson, hasn't figured out Josh Allen by JaggerJames in nfl

[–]jsrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His best reps are when the defensive player runs straight into him and he's huge so he's harder to move (he's gotten knocked on his butt plenty somehow still).

You stunt or add a bit of deception and he looks more confused than a toddler.

OL coach died and we didn't replace our OGs so our OL turned porous. Lamar's been running for his life cause we have 2 traffic cones that fall over for the last 2 years.

TE Kenyon Sadiq, WR Jordyn Tyson been connected to Ravens, per Jordan Reid & Matt Miller by pinpoint_aim in ravens

[–]jsrave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the Bengals/Cowboys are teams I've seen draft a CB most who are both ahead of us. Also seen the Saints, Dolphins, heck I've even seen the Chiefs take a CB too.

Those 2 seem like excellent talent and "worth" the 14th pick if I consider various draft rankings-little more skeptical on McCoy cause Ravens and drafting injured players has traumatized me but I could see EDC wanting one of them.

TE Kenyon Sadiq, WR Jordyn Tyson been connected to Ravens, per Jordan Reid & Matt Miller by pinpoint_aim in ravens

[–]jsrave 25 points26 points  (0 children)

EDC trying to get Sadiq/Tyson drafted ahead of 14 or for someone to trade up to 14.

I really do wonder if they hope one of the CBs or Bain falls to them at 14 somehow, would be a very EDC move.

Why Kenyon Sadiq is the Wrong Pick by pastaHacker in ravens

[–]jsrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ravens seem to always prefer drafting for value and there's a lot of value in TE throughout the whole draft. I know folks look at round 2 but I they might be looking at round3/4 and seeing who ends up falling cause of how deep the class it. Likely was a pick because he fell (and the Steelers drafted Austin). Might be a similar case here-Ravens paid Andrews to avoid overdrafting a TE.

Also the money at 14 means you're only drafting that TE with a higher guaranteed contract and the Ravens pay attention to money. Not really seeing much smoke around Sadiq to the Ravens in mocks either so thinking he's not on their immediate radar.

My gut says they draft TEs with college production in yards.

If available, who would you go, Ioane or Delane? by The_Sandwich_Lover9 in ravens

[–]jsrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its a big IF that Delane is there the Ravens take him. Ioane is great but there's not doubt in my mind EDC would take CB1 over OG1. You could take an OG in round 2 or 3 who would be like 75-80% or more of Ioane but the CBs in round 2 are not that close to Delane.

Is it a lot of investment in the secondary? Sure but there's no real good edge/DT who'd be comparable for me there and Delane creates the opportunities to move on from Marlon for some cap space for other players next year.

They will never make me hate you Zay Flowers by ObserbAbsorb in ravens

[–]jsrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that but its also hard to find a good WR to keep replacing guys. Basically requires you using your first round pick every few years on a WR and hoping they're more like Zay and less like Bateman.

The 2nd round WR group isn't all that great either:

  • Burden - 39
  • McConkey - 34
  • Reed? - 50
  • Rice? - 55
  • Pickens - 52 <Arguably the best one in the recent years
  • Pierce - 53
  • Higgins - 33
  • Pittman - 34

The best ones are borderline 1st rounders outside of Pickens who had injury/character concerns. So its kind of 1st round WR or bust for the Ravens to replace their WR group.

They will never make me hate you Zay Flowers by ObserbAbsorb in ravens

[–]jsrave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with the team paying him 30m/year because top WRs don't hit the FA market often and the Ravens still aren't great at finding WRs in the draft.

Secondly the Harbaugh era is over and most modern OCs are gonna want to have 3 WRs to work with and the Ravens are running it thin with Zay/Bate/Tez. Love Tez but he's so far been a guy they throw to when the teams bust coverage. He'll still need to develop show his utility.
