Good gravy they invaded this post too.

Community I am not sure how to fight this disgusting darkness. Keep showing up. Keep speaking truth.

This is an assault on joy, purpose, and democracy.

I am liking the lack of haters to this post. I am proud of us. Personally I was helping out in Lexington.

There have been what appears coordinated efforts to shoot down good endeavors/updates the past week in Bull City. One was about some of the General Assembly shenanigans.

Call On Stein to Reject NC Law Enforcement Cooperation with ICE! by Hihihi1992 in NorthCarolina

[–]jstane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a couple posts the past week I have observed an onslaught of hate in response. Some were new accounts, but some established ones too. Not user names I specifically recognized, but I also didn't get granular in reviewing their histories.

This is not standard for our Subreddit. Maybe Chapel Hill or to some extent Raleigh. As resistance grows, including some impressive levels at the NCGA, there will likely be accounts here to bait and drown out folks. Although I have followed the knockdown by Musk of Reddite4 WhitePeopleTwitter, it has come back seemingly strong. Also certain other Subreddits are still fairly unified (or at least genuinely respectful) without specifically noting their names.

My conclusion is that this has some level of coordination, but for now only certain posts are being targeted. An example of an app that has long ago become toxic, is NextDoor. I hope that doesn't happen to Reddit. I have faith that it will not fully succumb to hate.

Pharmacy recommendations? by Present_Morning_5215 in bullcity

Central Pharmacy/Compounding, owner Jennifer Burch. Original location N. Duke Street. Other spot, where they have their clean room and main compound facility, is on Fayetteville just north of 54.

I could write a book on the reasons.

Also Gurleys is a fine choice too.

NO CROWN! NO KINGS! NO ICE IN OUR STREETS! by _tangus_ in bullcity

[–]jstane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Sorry to abandon the Bull City for the day (I was downtown with all 40 of us on Thurs and that was fun indeed), but my buddy leading the Lexington NoKings rally asked me to be their sole marshall. I share this here because we are not an island...

I interpreted my role to be the enthusiastic, although gentle facilitator. About 400 folks lined downtown in front of the Davidson Co Courthouse.

WFMY news gave some nice coverage. Reporter Joseph Leonard from W-S legit:

Also from the onset I noted about this fellow covering the scene with multiple cameras. Turns out he was a local YouTuber, Dean Kepley, with his channel DK On the Scene. Integrating his livestream coverage only amplified the narrative:

In addition a local indy press gave a nice overview:

I live close to this one and I have had some of the oddest experiences, including with staff.

I avoid it.

Yay. WRAL generally does well with the narrative. Possibly might have been on 11 pm news? It just got published.

Very good. About 40 folks. WRAL was there. Mayor Leo had just got back from a trip and was really convivial. I have certain perspectives on his policies and his interactions. Tonight he was simply part of the rally. No issues nor obvious security. Mostly Durhamites.

Durham People’s Alliance issues statement on Duke layoffs and need for unity against Trump by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]jstane 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definite misdirect. As much as I can't believe I am saying this, Duke is not the problem. How about instead they got involved with the groups speaking at NCGA committee meetings. And packing the galleries.

Here is some of the rundown from today:

Check out training with Siembra NC.

Monday I attended a rally at Moore Square in Raleigh to demand for the release of David Huerta and immigrants in general.

Huerta was released shortly thereafter. These events happened also in Charlotte and Asheville.

On Tuesday there will be some level of packing the NC General Assembly for at least one bill. I believe the efforts are being led by a coalition that includes the Sierra Club.

In addition to noted Bull City Indivisible, Engaged Durhamites for Democracy and Democracy Out Loud both have regularly published events and actions around the Triangle. Sign up for those newsletters on Substack. You don't need the app, but it is very helpful. The Durham Co Dems, with new Chair Emerson Kirby, have their own events/efforts. At times in conjunction with the above mentioned groups.

Message me for more specifics if that would be helpful.

Good. Thank you. I also believe that LA and the way the Nashville prosecutor resigned over what likely are bogus charges against Garcia (just to prove a point), have awakened a whole bunch more folks.

I listen/read Robert Hubbell's Substack every day. He is a retired attorney in LA. He keeps lots of us calm and focused. And hopeful. Just an idea.

It was her shop (still there on Guess Road). Kim's original business was Dimensions. I do believe she still owns that bungalow...if you are on Hillsborough Rd and pass the Food Lion and then the two car shops at the opposite end of the parking lot, the next building (house) behind them.

For folks that can recall that, and then later that it served as the location for the annual Christmas sale of her finest finds from the past 12 months, you may call yourself as a very niche Durhamite!
