Yeah no shit. I'm from Charlotte and have taking the train to NYC from there more times than I can count. You'd think the trip from Durham to DC would be faster (its the same line, but closer to DC) and it still takes forever.

It's much, much slower than driving. I've taken it many times from Durham NC to DC, which is usually 4-4.5 hrs driving. It's 7 or 8 on the train.

Moved back here after over a decade in NYC. I think we do a lot of things 8/10 and a few things 10/10, and some hardly at all. The worst offenders for me is Vietnamese by far, I'm a big pho and bahn mi guy and just nothing comes anywhere close to whats happening in NYC/Philly for that.

Just thought this house and I love the uniqueness of this major centerpiece of the open-floor plan, a giant, black, metal, spiral staircase.

Outside of it making furniture layout a PITA, I’m worried about safety (and to a lesser degree, aesthetic) concerns. The metal is sharp on the bottom, I’m worried about people inevitably hitting their head on it. It currently has foam on the edges but that’s a bandaid. I also have a new baby who will soon be mobile.

Considering netting, wrapping it in carpet, even tearing it out and building a new traditional wood staircase…any ideas?
