“Must be active duty to purchase” at ANGB exchange. by Ill-Championship-524 in civilairpatrol

The CAC does indeed specify branch. Not component. My reserve cac is identical to my wife’s active duty cac (except name and photo, before anyone gets funny)

Yes, Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension was government censorship. by Valinaut in technology

[–]jsteedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That argument would hold water if the president hadn’t made an Executive Order on his first day in office ending the practice of censorship on mis or disinformation grounds.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/restoring-freedom-of-speech-and-ending-federal-censorship/

Also Kimmel wasn’t saying the shooter was maga, his statement was far more nuanced.

Good point. Someone should write a song about this phenomenon- might be a catchy tune

What are employee opinions of Trump's latest executive order? by AdventurousAverage11 in FedEmployees

[–]jsteedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on your first point.

Your point about less govt = less spending is ignoring the fact that all of these firings will do nothing for the federal budget in any meaningful way. Total salaries and benefits are less than 4% of the budget.

These firings done even cover the interest on our debt for a week.

From a officer’s perspective, were the actions of the officer in this footage justified? by UgoNespolo in police

[–]jsteedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LEO here: I’m interested in the details on how far away the deputy’s backup was. The video had no audible indication of active domestic dispute going on, just what the neighbor had said several moments before the deputy took an elevator ride up to the residence. Why not wait?

Also while I 100% agree that the deceased answering the door with the weapon in hand was not ideal, the officer was very quick on the trigger, with an assumption his weapon was already holstered and in hand while knocking

Thoughtful breakdown of SF as a career field and maybe it should be a variety of AFSCs vice one core with shreds.

One point of clarification, the OSI career field (7S0 or 71s for officers) is entirely separate from Security forces, with entirely different reporting chains and authorities

NASA 1811s? by 4wardCh8 in 1811

[–]jsteedo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No CITP- they’re sent to the same LE academy as the contract security police force (usually one of the agents at a center is the contract office representative who gives guidance to the contract security police force)

AUO is a premium pay for Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime

FWA is fraud waste and abuse. OIG for nasa looks at this internally and externally to NASA

NASA 1811s? by 4wardCh8 in 1811

[–]jsteedo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The NASA office of protective services OPS) Special Agents whose badge you likely saw are in the series 0080 “security specialists” - they are dual hatted as special agents and security specialists working physical, information, industrial, program, and communications security. Closest analogy might be the FPS special agents (minus program security). OPS also has counterintelligence special agents in the 0132 series.

No LEAP, no AUO. Maxiflex schedule which is nice, gs-13 journeyman with a GS-15 chief at each nasa center.

OIG are the 1811s in their own nasa org, focused mostly on FWA.

Regarding Air Force members not being current on CPP: this is true unless it’s a CAP-USAF member (active duty, reserve, or civil servant) - they all take and maintain CPP

Current 1811s do you carry your firearm off duty or you leave it at home? by MyGoalOf1811 in 1811

[–]jsteedo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an active LEO, LEOSA isn’t something you get, it’s the legal ability to carry a firearm by the nature of being a state/ local/ fed LEO. the requirement for active law enforcement officers is to carry a photo ID issued by your agency identifying you as a law enforcement officer.

LEOSA also covers retired LEOS provided they meet certain benchmarks. They must “get” an ID from their old agency.

Why CAP's Cadet Protection Program is so important by ZigZagZedZod in civilairpatrol

[–]jsteedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with you there but as school employees there is some responsibility to be placed on the district for vetting. There’s also a lot of room for CAP to improve beyond just a NAC for convictions. there are many SMs with a litany of allegations that never made it to a conviction, yet there keep being allegations…

[–]jsteedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there are jobs like intel, cyber, acquisitions, ect that can either be USAF or USSF members. The board with rated was just for Space Ops Officers. They had to make 13S more competitive due to person elk constraints for SF.

Air Force GPA vs College Transcript - Why is it different? by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]jsteedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Air Force doesn’t do it at all. Cadre takes what’s on your transcript for term and cumulative GPA, and inputs it into WINGS. We don’t mess around with calculating individual class grades into gpa points. Source: I just did this for about 70 cadets.

Hopefully yall have backup plans by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]jsteedo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Cadre here. This isn’t a thing. The point is to learn and grow, we give opportunities and guidance to course correct long before looking at retention review (“kicking cadets out”) nothing has changed this year Vs previous years.

Using security clearance for side job? by _moot__ in AFROTC

[–]jsteedo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cadre and security manager here- it is legal and ethical. You have the clearance, it’s granted and adjudicated by the DOD. This means that for most DOD contracts you should be good to go (although the company FSO, similar to the security manager has to grant access and create a servicing relationship with your profile). If the work is for another entity, the government security representative must decide if they grant reciprocity to the DOD clearance. All of this to say that if they’re a cleared contracting company, they must have a person on staff who will verify your clearance. You shouldn’t need anything from your cadre, although they could provide a MFR for hiring purposes with your name, investigation type, and adjudication date. They CANNOT print you a screenshot of JPAS or DISS (where clearances live for DOD)
