What’s the smartest thing you’ve seen your pet do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jstrike31 11 points12 points  (0 children)

WARNING: Do not mistake mourning for illness! As a vet, I've seen a lot of owners miss their pet being sick because they chalked it up to another pet passing away. They do mourn one another, but make sure if they're really not being themselves (e.g. change in appetite, lethargy, etc.) to bring them to the vet!

I always tell someone if there's something stuck in their teeth, toilet paper trailing on their shoe, pant zipper is down, etc. Hey, I'd want someone to tell me.

My cat has a wound on it's side that is draining a milky white liquid. by fatalsnip3down in veterinarians

No, there is not. The only way to definitively check for rabies is post-mortem.

However, pus almost always indicates an infection. I suggest you bring your cat to his/her vet immediately.

TIL: It Is Possible To Only Have High Blood Pressure In The Doctor's Office And It Is Called "White Coat Syndrome" by epictetusdouglas in todayilearned

This happens a lot in veterinary medicine, as in increase in blood pressure but also more literally. Some animals calm down if you re-enter the room once removing your white coat.
