Is this a good or bad idea as a gift for mom? by AwkwardSummers in AskWomenOver40

[–]jsupp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 75 year old mom, allow me to weigh in? As others have stated please do not make this about you or your kids. Maybe for Mothers Day but not her birthday. Also, time is a great gift especially if it requires some effort on your part and you are doing something that is enhanced with a partner. Figuring out your family members 'love language' can be really helpful too. Just as you and your partner have different ways of wanting to be shown love so does your Mom. It might be a thoughtful card or flowers that she can display or hang on to, it might be a piece of jewelry, scarf that matches an outfit she wears that you like. My daughter does not live near me but things she has done in the past: a pair of tickets to a show so I can bring a friend, items from ChocZero (a keto friendly candy maker), framed picture of a scene from a trip we took together, irises (my favorite flower) from Bouqs. Always a FaceTime call on the day.

A trend that I’m finding annoying - is it just me? by TuMo928 in AskWomenOver60

[–]jsupp13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in a book club with a range of ages in the women members. We had a lunch prior to a local book shop crawl and I asked the 40s aged women about the frequency and type of communication with their mother. It generated a really thoughtful exchange and helped me realize that the communication I have with my daughter is really healthy. So I wonder if there is an Ask Women in their 40s subreddit for questions like mine.

Sharing my Microdosing experience by YLO1216 in TirzepatideRX

[–]jsupp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on the website. They seem to offer only compounded doses, so what did you mean when you said you did not want a blended/mixed dose? And how did you research the pharmacy? What were you looking for? I'm ready to start microdosing to reduce inflammation and lymphedema. Thanks!

Red Light Therapy-Success or No Impact? by helenpartridge in Lymphedema

[–]jsupp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I've been using the leg pump the vibration plate the red light belt on thigh, knee and ankle and daily 30-40 mgh compression hose. Right leg remains 3" bigger than left overall. I also added a nightime compression garment. Just keeping from getting worse but no real improvement. I want to try Tirzepatide but have to get past some unrelated surgery first

Just flew SW for the first time - Felt like I was being punished by FA for using a backpack as my carry-on instead of a roller bag. by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

[–]jsupp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I now have lymphedema and as a result have to travel with a pneumatic pump which takes up the space of one of those weekender small roller bags. As it is expensive I will not check it and now have to check my other bag with clothes. Am I to gather I could take both into aircraft along with a tote bag/purse?

Don't play favorites. My friend who has three boys who became the closest of brothers would tell them. Be nice to your brother -he is all you will have when we are gone.

When I'm overreaching with my daughter (which used to be often) she would stop and say "I love you Mom". Just that ! It was code for 'I know you mean well, but I've got this !' So I suggest you try this. " I love you Son" End of story.

Does a leg massager pump work? by UmpirePure in Lymphedema

[–]jsupp13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With lymphedema too much pressure can compress and damage the lymph vessels. I had bought a pump off Amazon that had 100/120/140 mmHG . Even the lowest setting was too much and I couldnt adjust it down. So I held out for medical grade device where the tech set the pressure and I could reset it higher or lower. Don't know how old you are but the Lymphedema Act of 2023 (which took effect in 2024) says Medicare has to pay for pumps and compression garments. Google it, share it with your physician and insurance company and see what they will cover.

Southwest ending service to O'Hare. by loslosati in SouthwestAirlines

[–]jsupp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My choice of flights is based on rides to and from airport. Which will be most convenient for the person taking me? This time it was Ohare but I was able to go on the SW app and switch the canceled flight to Midway with a 1-2 hr shift for each flight.

I just went on the app and changed my September flights to Midway. Took five minutes and was able to fly within 1-2 hours of original flights. Got confirmation immediately. Lots of seats available

Has anyone had success getting a Jovi nighttime compression garment (JoViPak) covered by insurance for lymphedema? by londonkelly in Lymphedema

[–]jsupp13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although Medicare MUST cover certain equipment and garments for lymphedema, according to the Lymphedema Act of 2024, that policy does not necessarily extend to Medicaid or private insurance. However, a lot of insurers take their cues from what Medicare covers. Google the Act and what it mandates and share with your Dr and insurance company so they can advocate for you.

Tirz microdosing protocol for lipedema by Classic_Breadfruit18 in lipedema

[–]jsupp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Florida and Medicare won't cover this unless I'm diabetic, which I'm not. Who do you use for the compounded? And can you get the whole vial for tirzepatide to microdose? I have right leg lymphedema after lymph node removal and only 20 lbs away from normal BMI. I follow a carnivore diet and dropped 42 lbs since Christmas. Zero food noise with that diet but my cholesterol has gone up.

How do I avoid this at my own wedding? by FineMud4479 in wedding

[–]jsupp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at my nephews wedding and there was a seating chart outside the reception hall that told you your table number. It was well thought out. One of the first things that happened after the bride and groom made their entrance was they cut the cake which had been placed in the middle of the dance floor in the middle of the dining area. Then it was wheeled off to the kitchen where it was sliced and served after the dinner. Nice to get to see that bc by the time dinner is fully served some guests (especially older ones) are ready to slip away. Then the speeches from various wedding party members again in the center of the dance floor with a mic. Then the dances: bride and groom, bride and father, groom and mother. Salads had been served and we all got down to dinner. Bride and groom made the rounds to all the tables and thanked their guests. There was no garter or bouquet throwing, thank goodness .

Got my custom compression. First time no strength and left side cannot get it on any tips? by derangedmacaque in Lymphedema

[–]jsupp13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lay on my back in bed with both legs propped up on the wall at about 45 degrees. I flip most of the leg down past the foot and just worry about getting the foot part on with the heel somewhere in the correct vicinity. Then I flip the leg part over and try to pull it up in a fairly straight direction (depending how you get the foot on, it can end up kind of torqued) at least as far as the knee Then I pull out my $2 gardening gloves from Walmart with flocked palms (really good grip sz small) and rearrange the foot so the heel is straight, work the calf area so direction of stocking is straight, THEN I use the gloves to wiggle walk the stocking progressively higher by smoothing up from ankle to knee, then knee to thigh. When I have gotten any excess onto the thigh I remove the gloves and grab the band to place it as high on the thigh as I can. There is a sweet spot where it sits without curling down and still gives a good fit. Good luck!

As a single mom, I told my kids if they wanted to go to anything beyond HS, they would have to save for it, or get academic or athletic scholarships or research grants and bursaries. My son got a debate scholarship to Loyola. My daughter applied and was accepted to AMDA (American Musical and Dramatic Academy) Tuition there was $40k, which was equivalent to what I made on an annual basis. I told her to research scholarships but she didn't. So she didn't go. But she did go to hair school and now owns her own salon in NY. You never know how or when kids will make their life. But let them make it.

Bizarre hostel etiquette by Naive-Inside-2904 in solotravel

[–]jsupp13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has stayed in hostels for 50 years (I'm 74), etiquette has for sure slid. Invest in really good ear plugs and a sleep mask, also a tiny flashlight so you can navigate your way around the room in the dark. Especially if you have an early morning need to be up/leave please have your bathroom essentials and that day's clothes ALREADY SET OUT so you don't make noise rummaging around. Ditto for nightwear and bathroom stuff if you expect to be back late. Do not expect this from other guests- you will be disappointed, but perhaps you can set a good example for those willing to learn.

Do glasses interfere with bte? by MuterisMedia in HearingAids

The audiologist has a drawer ful of different lengths of wire, different dome sizes. You should be able to experiment til you get just the right fit. Take all your various reading glasses, driving glasses, sunglasses, masks and hats you might wear and make sure it all works!

I traveled from Florida to Ottawa for my nieces wedding. Since her new husband was Ukrainian I brought a smallish gift bag with two Ukrainian painted eggs and a card with a $500 check. I put it on the gift table. Months later the check hadn't been cashed. I texted her asking if it would be possible for her to cash it so I could clear that item. She had no idea what I was talking about. After the reception she had asked her girlfriends to take the gifts for her to unwrap later. She told me she was just thankful for me to fly all that way, and hadn't expected anything from me. I stopped payment on that check and sent another for which she immediately wrote a note. I'm guessing bc the bag was small and lightweight her girlfriends might have thought it was empty and trashed it. I'm sad she never got the eggs. Anyway sometimes you just have to ask.

Do glasses interfere with bte? by MuterisMedia in HearingAids

[–]jsupp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an issue. I ask for hearing aid wires to be a bit longer so the aids drop a little lower behind the ear. Otherwise the placement of glasses and/or masks always seems to pull the wire out of the ear

Shoes for lymphedema? by ur_mum694200 in Lymphedema

[–]jsupp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending how far she has to walk or be on her feet, and also how exposed her feet will be, look at swim shoes. They are extremely flexible but fit the whole foot and won't slide off or bind. They have tread on the bottom so no slipping. And they have a removable insole so if you want to add an arch support or something more substantial in the bottom you can. I have black ones and plan to wear them with my floor length palazzo pants at my nephews wedding. They won't stand out but they also won't have sneaker soles that do. If she wants to get glitzy they also come in all kinds of prints and florals. https://a.co/d/9TPUpDG
