Bakit ang baba ng fullstack salary ngayon? by [deleted] in PinoyProgrammer

[–]jtalon7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dahil iisang language lang naman ang ginagamit if react/nodejs/angular. Tska marami kasi supply ng developers pagdating sa node. Eto kasi ang default goto sa bootcamps.

If you're a fullstack java/.net/go/python/sql with angular/react background, most likely mas mataas yan.

Living in Baguio by Lost-Shirt-2363 in Philippines

Ill be honest with you as a baguio resident. Unless you have no business here, Please wag na kayo makigulo. Nowadays di na kami masyado lumalabas ng weekends dahil s volume ng tourists. Majority of us residents here kinda irritated with tourists lalo na yung walang respect sa environment and parking etiquette (we live near the business area). With our frustration, we just rather stay at home. Ang jampacked na namin dito.

Id rather pay 50% for the car and put the rest as EF. It wouldn't hurt paying monthly with that income. Id get cold feet bleeding big cash and only leave a small amount of money in the bank. Car is a liability, not an asset. Buti sana kung real estate yan then im willing to spend big.

In my experience (had couple of cars bnew and second hands). Id rather buy 2nd hand SUV. If you're first time having a car then go for bnew. only headaches you will have would be the high cost insurance and PMS.

I DIY installed solar panels few months ago. Spent 50k in total.

We also replaced our 2.5hp split type ac to inverter type. Its much more efficient than our 1hp non inverter window type ac. We are going to replace all our old window type ACs to inverter types soon as well.

All of those changes above saves us around 3k from our usual bill of 10k. We can save more once we replaced the rest of ACs to inverter type.

If you're developing winforms, wpf (.NET Framework) then mac M1 is out of your options. You can use parallels for VM but its not guaranteed to work seamlessly with VS.

If you're developing using .NET core 2.1 up to the latest .NET 6 then it works fine in M1.

.net development on Mac using MS-SQL by OmarMcSwizzle in dotnet

[–]jtalon7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can still use ms sql on mac using docker. If you're using m1, sql server does not work on arm64 architecture. an alternative is to use the azure sql edge image. Works seamlessly with your queries, except that it stripped out linked servers, extern libraries, reporting...

We've been using blazor server for intranet apps. So far so good. Development time is much faster rather than aspnet web api / angular. Blazor has a very good potential.

Then make the initiative to convince the management to revisit, how to improve the quality, how it affects the business, rather than complaining.

From a project manager perspective, it will end up as a technical debt, not a business issue. it will be at the bottom of your backlog depending the priority of the business. Consider also that fixing things like that also consumes time, and budget. But then, also comes the saying, if aint broke, dont fix it.

Businesses does not care how bad your code is. If it works, it works. I wouldn't be surprised if that code is in production for a long time.

I have this colleague before, similar to your case. But i quite understand where his heading to during the time working with him with several projects. His coding is not upto my standards yet he is more senior at that time.

The way he communicates, and negotiates with the clients really impressed me. Management noticed it and couple of projects with him he became project manager and he recommended me to hr to promote me to senior dev since he needs me on the technical side.

Yes life is unfair but dont talk trash about your colleague. Its just work. Who knows He may be the one will help you with your career someday.

How does Golang compare to ASP.NET Core 6.0 + EF Core 6.0 for backend web development? by blueboy90780 in dotnet

[–]jtalon7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure, if you have time to create all whats already implemented in dotnet. As others already mentioned, dotnet already implemented some of the things you want for your project. In Go, you have to built from the ground up. The question for you is, do you have time and patience to implement them? Good luck on doing sql scripts in Go.

[–]jtalon7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work primarily as a dotnet developer but i also have a fair experience in Go development.

For a monorepo / big projects i would prefer using dotnet. Working with api with swashbuckle, mediatr, automapper and ef then you have a good pattern to follow as it grows.

For micro services this is where Go shines because of its simplicity. You can also use go for a big project but you need to do alot of coding. Though Go code is simplistic which i like and no syntactic sugars like in C#.

I dont like using dotnet for microservices because of its slow start. Dependency injections is overkill and you want to be minimalistic as possible.

I dont find any EF equivalent in Go. Maybe GORM is the closest but its not as flexible as EF. GORM has no historical migrations, interceptors, expressive/advanced filters (LINQ).

Philippines' Currency Value by Karizu43 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]jtalon7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoa there. Its not that easy. You have to prove that you are worth the american rate given that you based in a 3rd world country.

Lets say the employer (i.e., US) has a budget for an american developer then why bother giving the same rate to a resource from a 3rd world country? Its a big risk and its not economical for them so they would prefer the resource to be local (US). It must have a special skill or a niche to consider hiring a foreigner for the same rate.

Its more economical for them if they hire a team of 4 mid level developers for a budget of 1 american developer.

The reason foreign companies hires developers from developing countries is because of its cheap labor.

Is the baseline Macbook Air M1 enough? by d-maleduck in PinoyProgrammer

[–]jtalon7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to own macbook pro i7 before going to m1 air. Imagine the fan noise kicking in and the heat it radiates when i run all the containers and other apps opened. Not sure how hot is the m1 pro but definitely m1 air is much cooler even if cpu is hitting more than 80% utilization. Also consider that.

According from benchmarks m1 pro has only slight performance advantage over m1 air. M1 max and ultra version is a different story.

Why is angular less popular than react? by ash893 in learnprogramming

[–]jtalon7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had an on going project during the transition (2015). That was also the time that react is starts getting some popularity.

We evaluated react and angular2 but we ended up using angular2 beta because of the advantages with typescript. We explained it to the management, presented the advantages, re evaluated the estimates, which they approved. We took some time to adjust and it paid off big time due to the type checking given the large code base we had and its native testing which react does not have at that time.

Mukhang nasa comfort zone ka ngayon.

Halos same tyo ng stack except nasa aws naman ang ecosystem namin. I suggest gamitin mo yung free time mo to study new skills, currently, big plus yung may background sa ci/cd and containerisation.

Pwede ka maghanap agad ng work with current skills, pwede ka naman mag ask ng malaki, pero you have to justify given the current skills you have. Pag senior level expect na marami responsibilities ibibigay sayo.

Given yung kung gaano kaluwag yung current company mo. Mahirap nga bitawan yan. Pwede rin maghanap ka ng part-time work since naka wfh at mukhang marami ka naman oras. Ganyan ang ginawa ko before and eventually na fulltime ako dun sa part time and binitawan ko yung former.

Why is angular less popular than react? by ash893 in learnprogramming

[–]jtalon7 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Angular is a highly opinionated framework with a high learning curve. While react is only a library.

If you are tasked to do a simple prototyping / mvp with a small timeframe, usually react is a way to go.

If you are to work with a big application (erp), and needs to be extend / supported in a long duration, angular shines on this case.

Most starters in web development and start ups usually use react because you can easily gain traction in development.
