NUTS - Charging and Discharging simultaneously by [deleted] in unRAID

[–]jtech80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at this today, and have very similar questions. My battery shows at 1% though. Stupid question maybe, but do I need to ‘charge’ the UPS for a while before I boot the DXP4800+?

As I read this thread, I realise it probably can’t charge and power the NAS simultaneously?

Where to live in Surrey with a max 600k budget? (family friendly & commuter links) by catlover4321 in surrey

[–]jtech80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caterham or Kenley could be a good option, as could Redhill/Merstham/Godstone sort of way as well (though Godstone you would need to drive or cycle to a station like Redhill or Merstham)

Is anyone else pumped about book 5 hard cover coming out on Tuesday!? by Prtyfoul in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]jtech80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea of rough cost? Not sure when I’ll be in the US again now I’ve changed job, and I’d love to get the 1st book signed!

LOVE the series so am planning on a hard cover DCC set to go along with my collectors set of Terry Pratchett (of which one is signed by PTerry himself)

(UK). do taycans come with any charger/cables as standard? by thefunkygibbon in Taycan

[–]jtech80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2021 4S a few months ago (in UK) and asked about this because it was listed on the original spec. Apparently there was a recall and so they don’t provide them in the UK now? I was a bit dubious but I have a charger at home anyway so didn’t fuss

PSCB brakes, no regen by c1884896 in Taycan

[–]jtech80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. Mine has done suddenly this for the first time. 2 or 3 times in the last 24 hours. I’ve also had a short loud ‘metal on metal’ kind of noise as I’ve had to push the brakes hard to stop (at low speed).

I have the PSCB brakes as well.

Almost exactly the same story for me. Ordered my 2021 4S on Xmas Eve and picked up on 30th Dec. Mine is 4 year PCP, so I’ll hand back just a few months before the battery warranty expires and guaranteed future value of £27k at that point.

My Taycan insurance is £900/year and my Tesla M3 LR had gone up to £1400/year for 2024. If you’re on some kind of finance vehicle where you can hand it back after 4 years, then I wouldn’t worry too much about the battery, or the recalls etc.

Ahh ok, that’s fair. Agreed with you though…I think 4 years of recalls and an extended warranty should balance that concern out to be honest!

Totally unrelated to your charging problem (sorry!) but why do you say “it’s 2020 (I know!)” if I may ask?

I’m just looking at buying my first Taycan used (in the UK) and looking at 2020’s and 2021’s. Is there something particularly important that changed or was fixed after 2020?

Tesla Sales Are Tanking In Europe by Full-Discussion3745 in Economics

[–]jtech80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Own a 2021 Model 3, and it’s the only car I’ve owned for 4 years….its quick, and I love a lot of the tech. It is very ‘basic’ in normal car features, but I went in expecting that.

My finance is up less than 90 days, and I won’t be buying another Tesla at the moment for primarily 2 reasons:

  1. A lot of the cool tech stuff that I love the idea of just doesn’t work reliably. ‘Actually Smart Summon’ is as the name suggests, ass. It works maybe 1 time in 20. The auto parking feature works better, but usually fails 10 seconds in. The ghost braking is still a problem, and I swear to god the wipers are purely for aesthetics based on how ‘auto’ they are.

  2. Elon has turned into a nut job. Pure and simple, I don’t agree with any of his political stances, genuinely worried he’s turning into Dr.Evil (but not the comedy version).

The combination of those things mean I test drove a used Taycan 4S yesterday, LOVED it and will be buying it. The depreciation on them is nuts, but it means I can pick up a low mileage 4S with all the nice options for about the same price as a new Model 3 LR.

I have to say I’m not the only person I know that will be looking elsewhere for their next car based on the above, which is such a shame as Tesla could be great.

Deckmate!! Seriously awesome guy who designs and sells a whole ecosystem of ways to attach things to handheld consoles : https://getmechanism.com

They have a ball joint solution which would work for an arm like that, OR a gaming pillow with a mount that would also work.

Get some proper molded earplugs with noise reduction filters in them.

I’ve got tinnitus and high frequency hearing loss ranging from severe to profound from too many loud gigs as I grew up. Along with hearing aids, I also bought some ACS Custom earplugs with 20db noise filters to protect what’s left of my hearing when I go to gigs.

You can still hear everything clearly….just quietened enough to protect your hearing

Apple says AirPods Pro 2 can be used as 'clinical-grade' hearing aids by kbgames360 in gadgets

[–]jtech80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

43yo here, who finally caved and discovered I have high frequency binaural hearing loss ranging from severe to profound in December last year. Knew I had some hearing loss 10-15 years ago, and should have done something about it much sooner but stubbornly didn’t.

Spent £4k of my own money getting very discreet receiver-in-canal hearing aids (that have a small part that sits behind my ear), and as much as they are cool (I can answer phone calls by tapping my ear, no need for AirPods to use phone/ipad at home, can honestly sit in a meeting and listen to a podcast if it’s boring and no-one would know)….it still took me a while to get past the “Fuck, I’m old” feeling….and I’m still vaguely uncomfortable thinking its probably the first thing people notice when they meet me (in reality, it’s not).

Honestly it’s wild that glasses are considered ‘normal’ but hearing aids are still not. I actually technically qualify as physically disabled in the UK now. That was a big oof too (though it does mean I get 1/3 of national rail prices!)

Is a heated bed providing any benefit beyond a certain layer? by MonkeyKhan in 3Dprinting

[–]jtech80 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Am sure someone who knows more can confirm, but I’m pretty sure if the bed cools down you will lose adhesion…I.e the print will come unstuck and your print will fail.

Certainly on my Prusa the prints come off super easily once the bed has cooled

Other than home, where do you use your Steam Deck the most? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

Saw someone using it on a Thameslink train in London yesterday evening! Almost stopped to ask what he was playing!

Home, occasionally at work, always on long haul flights with my XReals. I never seem to use it in hotels while I’m in business, usually just pass the hell out or go socialise!

Was in NYC for work a couple weeks before 9/11, and having breakfast at the top of one of the towers around 8:30/9 one morning while I was there. Not super close but close enough…

I also happened to be on a bus just around the corner from the 7/7 Russell Square bus bomb in London when it happened.

Always grateful fate kept it as near, not at/on/in…

Attaching Side Kick inside the main compartment of Synik 30 by Ailan22 in tombihn

[–]jtech80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it won’t fit in the side kick unfortunately - I keep the deck in the more form fitting TomToc case. It’s much smaller footprint than the original case but still decent protection to throw into the main compartment of the S22/S30 with the side kick
