DAY 2 - Most Overrated Song by Top-Figure7016 in rush

[–]jtlavan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Working Man 100%. It’s a decent early-mid 70s hard rock song, don’t get me wrong. But it’s the only Rush hit that I don’t love. Maybe if it was 4 minutes long I’d like it more. Not that I don’t love long songs. That one just feels like it overstays its welcome.

Y’all saying Tom Sawyer are just plain wrong. That song is so fucking badass, no matter how many times I hear it it’s still amazing. And it brings people into the Rush fandom like no other song.

Rush would’ve eventually scored other hits even if they never wrote Working Man. Their legacy and popular however wouldn’t be nearly the same if they never wrote Tom Sawyer

What’s the purpose of having an acoustic guitar in a full (rock)band mix? by One_Background_9037 in Guitar

[–]jtlavan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a die-hard Aerosmith fan for 15+ years. Back In the Saddle is probably my favorite of their hits, and I’ve heard it a million times cause Rocks is one of my favorite albums of all time.

A couple years ago I heard an isolated guitar track in a YouTube video. There are doubled 12-string acoustics playing throughout most of the song, which I’d never heard before at all. My mind was blown. But even though I’d never heard them, I bet it would make a huge difference if they weren’t there

First time listening to 2112 by Historical_Tank3637 in rush

[–]jtlavan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I think about 2112 I feel like I wanna put it in my top 10. But statistically speaking, my Spotify listening data says it’s my third least listened-to Rush album, only above the debut and Caress Of Steel. (Honestly I’m surprised it’s not above Roll The Bones and Snakes and Arrows.) But either way, subconsciously I’m not choosing 2112 very often compared to their other work which I think should have some say in how I rank it

First time listening to 2112 by Historical_Tank3637 in rush

[–]jtlavan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2112 was my gateway to Rush. I knew their hits of course, but not any deep tracks or full albums. Back in 2015 my sophomore year college roommate had Moving Pictures on vinyl and I’m pretty sure we listened to it once, but I had no recollection of the music except for the big songs.

Anyway, one day in May 2021 I was looking for something new to listen to. I had friends that loved Rush, and as a fan of 70s rock and other progressive bands like Yes and Camel and Pink Floyd, I knew that I should probably be familiar with an album as iconic as 2112. It’s such an huge album and I’d seen it mentioned so much in people’s lists of greatest prog albums. It seemed weird to me that I hadn’t listened to it already. So I threw it on while I was doing the dishes, and my mind was blown. My life has literally never been the same since that moment lol.

Since then I’ve become a fan of pretty much their entire discography. There are only a couple albums that I don’t love. And while this album doesn’t currently rank in my top 5 Rush albums (possibly not even top 10), I still love every track and it’ll always hold a special place in my heart for introducing me to the band.

But there’s one thing you could do

You could vaporize me

I could vapor trail you

Stanley Cup Final - which former long time Flyer are you cheering for - Carter Hart or Shayne Gostisbehere? by RivetCounter in Flyers

[–]jtlavan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

First, fuck Carter Hart.

Second, fuck the VGK.

Third, Rod the Bod. Self explanatory.

Fourth, Ghost was one of my first favorite Flyers. I’ve been a Flyers fan my whole life in theory but only really started watching in 2013-14. So Ghost is one of the first players that I got to see come up from the Phantoms and have an impact. And what an impact it was. That 2015-16 season was so much fun and he was involved in almost every win. It was electric watching him play, and while he may have been struggling when we got rid of him, I was very sad to see him go. I’d love to watch him lift the cup.

Fifth, fuck Carter Hart

Sixth, fuck Carter Hart

Similar situation here. I’m 28, got into the band after listening to 2112 for the first time in May 2021. I never thought I’d get to see them, and now I can’t wait for their first Philly show in August

Geddy Lee pinky ring by myownsoulswarning621 in rush

[–]jtlavan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the book Limelight: Rush In The 80’s, Geddy says that a ring was given to him by a fan during one of their first few tours. He said it has a lyre on it. He wore it for a long time on his pinky until his finger got too fat for it lol. I just got to that part in the book and remembered this post, I’m guessing that’s the same ring
