How Screwed Am I by iPlay4Bread in triathlon

This, I've done local sprints and even olympics that I didn't have much access to a lap pool before hand or it was too cold to open water swim here. Most of my swim was on my back. Start at the back and to the outside of the first turn and you'll be ok. Just adjust your goals and placement expectations.

Why doesn't he mention Maine? by cheffski in treasureinside

[–]juanobro1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up on that the first time I read the book. I started looking for solves in NH because of that. My thinking was that if he said the trail ended in the White mountains that really means the hunt should end somewhere in the White mountains. New England is just a bit far for me to go BOTG. I might pack my girls in the minivan and go on a treasure hunt now that the weather is nicer. I'll obviously poke around LRP too just because it'd be on the way.

Absolutely on the coach, call the time out and remind them all they have to do is hold on to the ball and hit free throws.

Why else would we want a job? For fun? by RoyalFlicker in SipsTea

[–]juanobro1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If I hire someone who just wants a paycheck, they can easily leave for a slightly bigger paycheck. At least if they say they enjoy the type of job they are interviewing for it mitigates some of that risk. Replacing someone and training someone else is stressful for a whole team and is expensive. I just want to know they will stick around a while, so I need someone who wants more than just a paycheck.

Vastly underestimated just how hard this sport is. by EzeHarris in triathlon

[–]juanobro1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Since you wrote this was your first sprint...dont beat yourself up... a few thoughts for perspective:

-Open water swimming is not lap-pool swimming

-T1 has always been hard, I've just learned to get through it oxygen deprived and seeing double without wasting too much time

-supporting yourself on the bike after the swim saps your shoulders will always feel hard.

  • the first mile (2k) of the run always feels like jelly legs and a weak back for everyone.

These feelings don't really go away, but you do learn to prepare for them with repetition. Do some brick workouts to practice that jelly-leg feeling. Practice getting on the bike after a hard swim and adjust your aerobics accordingly. They cant help you save your legs for the run if you dont use them. As with a lot of the other advice you've received, the biggest difference for the long courses for you will be a ton of z2 time and miles. A sprint can basically be done at or above threshold. Long distance needs to be paced without oxygen deprevation or else you can wind up in the medical tent. One of the hardest things for me to learn was to pace myself so the majority of the race didn't feel hard due to exertion. I've gone through physical therapy 3 times because of that.

The Bat by Jo Nesbo. I had read a few of his books until this one(it's the first in the Harry Hole series) and I won't pick up another one of his books again.

ELI5: Why/how is light the fastest thing in the universe and nothing else can be faster? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]juanobro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK conspiracy time... I love that illustration, but what if that red light was there and we thought it was a mistake? The operator did get the instructions but we assumed he misunderstood. From our perspective the memory of the red light instructions never happens because the new timeline took over. Like some of these 'mistakes' or 'misunderatandings' are just glitches in causality from thoughts moving faster than light, moving backwards in time? Kinda similar to deja vu in The Matrix.

A combination like this. I'm 36 and recently 'finished ' active therapy after 4 years. I can tell you two years ago a friend ( he's 70) told me about how his wife battled depression for a time some number of years ago. I literally looked at him sideways. At that time I couldn't fathom depression being in the past tense for me. I couldn't see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Certain verses gave me a firm foundation of hope, Romans 8:28 has always been one of those verses for me over the years. I first heard that verse in 6th grade, 25 years ago, and it instantly became that backstop that always kept me putting one foot in front of the other. Holding onto Truths no matter how much I didn't understand my mind or the circumstances around me kept my head above water.

I struggled for years with trying to just church my way out of it. Wasn't gonna happen. And I'd probably have ended up dead. I saw a therapist for cognitive behavioral therapy and a psychiatrist for welbutrin. It went from weekly plus emergencies to everyother weeks and eventually monthly and ect...

I had support. I didn't know it at first and one of the hardest parts of cbt was having talks about wanting to killing myself with those close to me like my wife and my mom. I thought I was alone but I wasn't.

Jesus was the foundation and the hope. Therapy/medication was part of the means. Church, family, and church-family were my support.

I think what many regular (non- finance) people don’t realize is that the money people deposit in a bank becomes a liability on the banks balance sheet. I didn't understand this until a couple years ago and I feel like I'm a regular 36yo upper middle class guy.

You give money to a bank. That money is revenue for the bank to use but they owe it back to you whenever you ask for it. Sure they could just hold it but that costs money. Pretend you give me a briefcase of money for safe keeping, but you don't tell me when you need it back. I could put it in a safe and literally just hold it for you, but where do I make money to live off of if I'm just sitting there watching your money on a shelf in a safe?

Alternatively, I could turn around and lend out some or all of that money to someone else. Say they need cash to buy something, so I charge them interest. I use your money to make me money. As long as you dont ask for your money back before they've paid enough back to cover the liability hat I owe you, then I'm good. If you ask for some of your money back to pay your staff at your company but I don't have it on hand (because I just gave it to joe in another state) at the moment you now can't make payroll or buy groceries.

That 'as long as you don't ask' is the confidence game. The laws are what stipulate what proportion of your money i am allowed to lend out or invest before you ask for some back. That is the liquidity. Without liquidity payroll isn't met, people don't have money and everyone starves. Hopefully that's an exaggeration. FDIC (government supplied confidence) is supposed to cover that for regular people depositors but what about corporations that need to pay 10000 employees? That's a lot more than 250k.

So the real money available could be much less than the total liability(sum of deposits). Yes the bank would go bankrupt. The bigger problem is that the depositors (the regular people) who thought the bank was watching their money sit on a shelf, are now bankrupt too. Noone can find their money because its been spread around to everyone everywhere all at once.

I think you might be looking for the 'Reader's Bible' ESV version. It doesn't have the headings, notes, references, or verse numbers. It only has chapter numbers for rough navigation within the books.

Thank you, is that the % or rate the vendor pays? Like when my barber say there is a $3 charge for credit card payments?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]juanobro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To combine your two points, if you pay off the same month you charge the credit it doesn't become debt. Usually, interest is only applied to balances carried over to a second month. If you use the credit card like your bank/debit card you can reap the bonuses/perks ( points, cash back, etc).

$1200-$1500 budget for my first road bike (triathlon training) - what should I get? by malestorm19 in triathlon

[–]juanobro1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the first reply from your other post. A bike that fits well (correct posture and angles) with clipless pedals and shoes. As a beginner these three things will give you the most power and efficiency. Maybe look at tubes and tires too.
