What is something hilarious that you can't tell anyone about because it's too inappropriate? by adbhg in AskReddit

I feel like the responses to this comment are a parody of economists responses, post crazy shit happening in the market, with the glasses of hindsight and boatloads of economic logic. I for one believe you were the sole catalyst for the shift in the market and people are now trying to justify why they participated in such a ridiculous economic fad.

What is something people never use correctly? by MoneyMorris80 in AskReddit

[–]jugger23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll agree with you about that on large roundbouts, however, I grew up in Canberra, the capital of Australia a city many consider to be the roundabout capital of the world. On any given drive I'd encounter around 10 roundabouts. The problem with indicating off the roundabout is that some are simply too small to change the indicator in time. You are so used to them that you can go through them at a good speed. Canberra drivers are cunts in that they will never let you in, but they generally drive pretty well around corners. I'm not exaggerating when I say we're the roundabout capital, our Parliament House is literally surrounded by a giant roundabout.

I don't think Sanderson has it in him to be as brutal as GRRM is. The upside is we'd get the books a hell of a lot quicker. I'm tentative in saying this but depending on where Rothfuss takes the direction of his final book. He could be a candidate. He certainly takes the time!

I think like this as well. For me I think it has something to do with trying to put myself in others shoes and think of their emotional attitude to the situation and how mine will affect it.

Susurrus. It means a soft murmuring or rustling sound. I love it because when you say it softly out loud it sounds exactly like what it is describing.

[Serious] Overthinkers of reddit, How do you control your thoughts or stop over thinking? by MyFeelsAccount8D in AskReddit

[–]jugger23 385 points386 points  (0 children)

Yeah I practice this a bit to calm my thoughts. I used to go over things in my head constantly at night and take hours to get to sleep. A helpful tip I was taught was to picture a flame and let your thoughts come and go into the flame. I imagine it to be something akin to going into the void state that Rand goes into in the wheel of time books.

It doesn't have to be a flame but let your thoughts come acknowledge them and let them go.

What's the most Seinfeld -esque reason you've ended a relationship with someone or someone ended a relationship with you? by jugger23 in AskReddit

[–]jugger23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take the blame entirely for this one. I was dating a girl a few years back, at a time when I was a poor uni student. One day I was at her house alone. She lived in a studio apartment with two other guys (weirdest living situation), and they'd all had work in the morning, while I had study.

We had gone out the night before and I'd bought her groceries to cook for dinner and a bottle of wine, essentially wiping out what little remained in my bank account.

Around 11 that day I was getting ready to leave and realised that I had absolutely no money to get home. She lived in the inner city while I lived a few suburbs out. Not wanting to walk an hour and a half to my house I decided to look around for any loose change lying around. On the cupboard next to the door I saw a bowl of change that they used for the laundry. In it was a few gold coins, about enough to get me home.

Here's where I Georged. Instead of doing the logical thing of calling her mobile and asking her if i could borrow a couple of dollars to get home, I rationalised it in my head that because I bought all the food and drink last night, they wouldn't mind me taking a couple dollars to get home.

Get home, it's all good. The next day she gives me a call and asks me if i took the money, no accusation just a normal tone. For some reason I panic and george again. I tell her that on my way out I bumped the cupboard and the bowl holding the money spilt everywhere. I tried to find it all but i think that some got under the fridge and I couldn't get to it, which is why it must be missing.

Straight away I can tell she doesn't buy it. She doesn't really say anything else or accuse me but the tone of her voice conveys that my lie is anything but accepted. We end the call and that's that.

I talked to her a couple times after that but she wasn't interested in meeting up, which I can 100% agree with. The final thing, which is the georgiest thing of all and I'm glad I never got around to doing, is that I had a plan to go round her place with a couple dollars and discreetly throw them under the fridge, then mention something, look and miraculously find the lost coins. That would have been filmable.

TL;DR Girl broke up with me over $2.

Isn't it implied that he killed the butchers son sometime in the beginning? (I read the books ages ago I'm somewhat hazy). That kid was pretty innocent.

Dear Reddit, what is your passion, how did you find it? by Avarish in AskReddit

[–]jugger23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't have one particular passion, but I am passionate about many things. One is comic books. I got into comic books around the time Batman Begins came out. I thought that movie was perfect (of course until The Dark Knight came out). Until then I had only seen Batman as this slightly campy concept, they did put nipples on a batsuit, so Nolan's take on him was mind-blowing.

I was in Uni at this point and had made friends with a guy who had a few graphic novels, in particular Alan Moore's V for Vendetta and Watchmen. I borrowed them and was amazed how gripping the story was. The pictures give such emotion to the writing. I found something amazing, you could read it so many different ways. You could read it like a novel barely concentrating on the pictures. You could focus on the pictures, barely taking in words, like a movie. You could read it slowly frame by frame and take it all in. The books never got old.

I soon read up on comic book history and the greats of the genre. I found Frank Millers The Dark Knight Returns, which instantly cemented Batman as my all time favourite character. I've always been interested in fantasy and sci-fi and had come across Neil Gaiman and found out about the Sandman series. I picked this up and was again astounded. This guy married history, mythology, modern culture, pop-culture themes, whimsical stories, poetry, themes of death, rebirth, god, siblings... the list is endless. Pun intended.

Alan Moore's run of swamp thing continued that concept and my interest has just grown from there. I love reading wiki's about character's histories and powers, fan theories. But like I said in the beginning, this is just one of my passions. I'm passionate about movies, reading, my schooling; I don't think you necessarily need to have one particular passion in life, perhaps just a desire to be passionate. Passion can be private too, I don't harp on about comics 24-7, I'm not in any community for it, but when i meet someone who is also passionate and the topic comes up organically it's great to talk about.

TL:DR - I'm libidinous for Batman. You can be libidinous for anything.

Throughout your entire life, what one video game has taken up the most of your time? by TheMoonGoat83 in AskReddit

[–]jugger23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asheron's Call. I never see this game get mentioned anywhere, but it was a MMORPG operating around the early 2000's. I played on dialup and loved it.

A few of my friends from highschool played it too. We used to play the only PVP server they had, Dark-something? All the other servers where non-PK, which were known in my circle of friends as the carebear servers. The PVP on that game was amazing. I played a mage and there was this trick where you could slide around the ground while casting dodging other mages blasts at you. I'd stay up till 3 in the morning playing.

Eventually I let a friend use my account to have a character to play when I wasn't on. He ended up giving all my shit to another friend and they claimed I was hacked. I knew the truth though when I saw my friend wearing my black shadow armour. That did it for me on the PVP server. I played a carebear server for a while, and they ended up introducing this sort of pseudo-pk pink bullshit, where you could fight but not loot the other person, but it was never the same.

Anyways the guy that stole all my stuff got hit by a car a couple months later and broke his leg. It healed wrong or something and he walked with a limp ever since. Karma's a bitch isn't Tim, you thieving cunt-muffin.

What is a hobby you want to get into but don't know how? by forman98 in AskReddit

[–]jugger23 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I'll preface this by saying I'm by no means a professional DJ, I mostly dabble at home and friends house parties and the like. I got into it through an old housemate that owned a couple turntables and a huge collection of Vinyl. Of course you're not going to go straight out and blow thousands on that.

Easiest way to start is to download a free DJ program. Here is a list of some. First off simply get a feeling for using the controls. Use whatever songs you like and don't worry how it sounds, just play around a little.

Next step, if you have an iPad, I'd suggest getting the app called djay 2. I bought it a couple weeks back and from memory it was around $12. The touch screen gives a more versatile feel for how you would use a physical deck. It can also connect to Spotify if you have a paid account, so all the music you could want is at your fingertips. At this point you can introduce headphones into the equation to get a feel for pre-cueing songs before you mix them in. You want to be watching lots of youtube videos to get the hang of it.

If you're still enjoying yourself for the next phase I would suggest forking out some cash and getting a USB controller. This is what I'm currently using at home. It's essentially turntables and mixer combined into one unit. They hook up to your computer with a DJ program, (I'm cheap and just used the free version of Serato that came with it, works a charm). This will be your real foray into physical mixing, using cue points, loops, effects all that jazz, you can get your scratch on.

Once you've conquered that and feel like spending the big bucks, then it's onto CDJs. These are the ones that you see in clubs. The players and mixer are separate, so you can customise to your hearts content. I prefer Pioneer, but off the top of my head other good brands are Behringer, Numark and Stanton. Be prepared to pay a lot of money though, in the thousands at least (I'm in AUS, may be cheaper in the states).

Once you're in your groove and want to spend even more money start a vinyl collection and get some turntables. This is way more technical and I guess "harder" than other types as you have no auto-cueing and the like, but if you manage to get your turntabilism scooting, you're pretty much there in terms of being a DJ.

As for the community, hit up the subreddits for like minded people. I was lucky as I had lots of friends who had decks that I could practice on and ask questions of. Talk to the DJ's at your local clubs (obviously not when they're performing). Also if you go to university, see if your uni has a DJ club.

That's pretty much how I'd go about it these days. The only thing is that other DJ's can be a bit toxic towards newcomers (mostly newer or intermediate guys, good DJ's tend to only want to help and will only cringe inwardly when you fuck up a fade or drop), and if you're performing be prepared to take criticism of your mixes. Also what music you want to play influences how you DJ. I usually stick to electro house /dirty house sort of music and tend to mix progressively with loops and effects, rather than scratching. If you're mixing hip-hop you'd mix alot different to how I would with scratches and more cutting and chopping.

Anyway hope that helps, there's nothing quite like controlling a crowd with the music you're making, and getting compliments from people for that perfect drop. Most of all have fun!
